Growlanser Generations is both a compilation of Growlanser II and Growlanser III, and the sole American release of both games. The American localization of both games were produced by Working Designs. Growlanser Generations is not to be confused with Growlanser V Generations the fifth entry in the Growlanser series. Growlanser Generations can be considered an american version of Growlanser Collection, which contained II and III How ever Growlanser II and III was originally planned for seperate releases due to Working Designs Defunct company going out of buissness was forced to release both in a 2 disc set.

So the series has two games in one the first being Growlanser II The Sense of Justice and the second being Growlanser III The Duel Darkness. the first ones story goes in short like this: Growlanser begins in the middle of the first game, the kingdoms of Rolandia  and Burnstein  are at war while dark powers are at work behind the scenes, while the story in the first game focused on the Kingdom of Rolandia,Growlanser two focuses on Wein Cruz, an aspiring knight of Burnstein. After Wein and his new comrade in arms Maximillion Schneider, pass there knight entrance exams the game skips forward, one year to the end of the war. Wein and Max now good freinds discuss there plans for the future, Wein intends on becoming an imperial knight and max has developed a mis taste for war,an intends to attain a position of influence,so he can prevent wars. Later as the two go there seperate ways, wein and his small band of new found comrades are framed for breaking a dam, which led to the destruction of a vllage and so begins the tale of Growlanser II.

And the Duel Darkness continues where Growlanser II leaves off. The gameplay though similar in some ways to its imediate predecessor in the series some notable  changes to the gameplay were made, Four characterss are now used during battles instead of eight, and the most powerful spells require cooperation between two characters at once, and movement on the overworld maps  you move to preset locations on the map. and your characters main weapon slots are used via a ring with slots that can effect different aspects of your charachters abilitys, kind of a gem tree to where these gems influence elemental powers etc,and can grant a veriety of benefits like increasing power, magic health etc.

Oh and another thing to note this game was published by Atlus.... At any rate the graphics are very ps2 and nothing special but are clear and crisp, the voice acting was done very well in my opinion along with the music etc. the game tells an awesome story that i found very intereting and i was always wantig to know what happened next

This game is by far an excellent game and although Working Designs is no longer around, they did leave a very good impression for there last game before they folded.

Always wanted to get this for the PS2. I imagine it's getting up there in price now. The Lunar games fill me with lighthearted innocent nostalgia so Working-Designs always gets an enthuaistic "thumbs up" from me!

I fortunately have this collection. I had rented it years ago and loved the games, but couldn't find them anywhere to buy. I stumbled across the collection in a video store one day and snapped it up.

I've yet to pick up the release of Growlanser IV for the PSP, though.

Love the Growlanser series! I still need to get Genertions but I have the PSP game and the Heritage of War I believe it's called. I only played deeply into the PSP game so far but anything from Working Design is a classic in my eyes.

The ps2 version of Heritage of war is way different then Generations Heritage is more like a hack n slash to where Generations is more turn basee.
