Strider

Recently I started playing the new Strider. It was on PS+ at some point for PS4 and I finally fired it up. It's pretty cool. Rather than a level-based game, it has one big world divided up into several different districts. The auto map is super useful. It fills out as you explore, of course, but it also lists all kinds of useful info, like save points, different kinds of doors and breakable gates, items, powerups, and your current objective. There are also secret things to find that don't show up on the map, like concept art and enemy info. It's not the kind of game you'd really invest yourself in exploring every nook and cranny, unlike the portable Castlevanias, for instance. It's more a fun game you can breeze through, and I can certainly appreciate that. It's a Metroidvania-lite, I guess.

That's not to say that the game itself is a breeze. You can certainly die if you get careless, and a couple of the bosses took a few tries to beat. One of my initial complaints was that all the bad guys have guns and I just had a sword but I recently got an upgrade that let me reflect shots back with a well-timed swipe and let me tell you, that will make you feel like an awesome ninja Laughing

Anyway, cool game. I've enjoyed it so far and am looking forward to what's coming next.

Yup, those guys are about to die

I always see this on Steam for like $7.49 but think "eeehhhh, I want other things." It looks really cool and fun, don't get me wrong, just something about the games it competes against when it goes on sale or maybe my funds being low. lol

I got it with PS+ but I'd recommend it as just some fun light action fare, if you're into that sort of thing. I know the competition is pretty grueling on Steam O_O

Didn't realize it was on PS+. Might get it there then.

It's not there now but it was a couple of months ago. I just hadn't gotten around to playing it till now.

I enjoyed this game a lot when I played it last year.  It scratched my constant Metroid itch.

It's a cool direction to take a franchise like this. I've really enjoyed it so far.

You should give it a try. I think it's one of the easier examples of this sort of game.

I should look more into this one. A hack-and-slash Metroidvania just sounds very nice.

It is. You should check it out. We really don't get games like this all that often Undecided

I'm so lame, I loved the original Strider SO much.  But I own this and haven't played it.

If owning games and not playing them makes you lame, then I am super lame lol

Sweet. Does this play similarly to Shinobi on 3DS? It looks a lot like that game, which I enjoyed.

Somewhat. It is a 2D ninja action game. It's a pretty fast and fluid.
