How's the fishin' Pickerelbites?

I haven't been up to blogging for a while because of some personal crap I'd rather not go into. Suffice it to say that it's done now and a thousand tonne weight has been lifted from my shoulders.

I'm on the Clock Tower dungeon in Persona Q right now and I'm taking a ridiculously long time to finish this game. I wasted two hours last night trying to beat a side quest in which you need to defeat an enemy who repeatedly heals themselves up once they hit 50%.

Yes I know all the ways to stop that but can't get any of them to stick. I miss over and over again. I run out of MP and the sucker is still at full health.

I'm still going to finish the game but I'm thinking that I'm going to stop doing side quests. I must say that the (minor spoiler): plot reveal after finishing the first 4 dungeons was very emotional and being in the place I was when I reached that section it hit me pretty hard.  .

I picked up Embassytown by China Mieville because Snee likes this author but I'm having a hard time getting through it. I'm at 30% read right now and it's been a month. This book may have been a bad place to start so I may need to try another one of his novels.

I've got The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Gaiman on deck and I'm sorely tempted to switch to it and come back later.

My parents who are both in their early 80's have been quite sick with some sort of virus for the last 3 weeks. My wife and I are going out to take care of some stuff for them this weekend.

I'm looking forward to playing Xenoblade Chronicles on the 3DS April 10th despite all the kvetching from the reviewers. Yes I know when you take a big screen production and shrink it to portable size there are bound to be things that get lost. I'll be the judge of whether that's a problem thank you very glad.

I managed to pick up Majora's Mask and gave it to the boy for his birthday. I still cannot find MH4 anywhere in physical form so I'm guessing Capcom doesn't care about people who like physical games and is hoping we all buy it digitally.

I have had some issies with Mieville.  I tried The City and The City and that was really slow going, so I gave up at the time.  I also read 2/3rds of Perdido Street Station and set it down for far too long.  I have had issues getting back into it since.  I even tried to restart it and never got very far.

The last book I couldnt put down was The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch.  So good.

The problem I'm having is that it seems to be one unending discussion of the definition of language as it applies to different species. There doesn't seem to be that much going on. Other than that there's his use of made up words, some of which can be deciphered and some which cannot. His description of buildings, hallways and furniture made out of living tissue are kind of interestng though.

There is a lot that I really liked about Perdido Street Station.  The book is just very dense.  There is info dump after info dump and once you think you have it down, there is another info dump.

ah too bad about EMbassy Town.  You gave it a shot though.

Sorry to hear about your parents.  Mine are younger, but there's always some health problem or another bothering them.

I hadn't heard any reviews of Xenoblade yet.  What are people saying?

Things feel cramped, visuals are inferior, not easy to see where you need to go, 3D looks bad except in cut scenes. About what you'd expect actually. No scathing reviews yet, just a lot of damning with faint praise.

One review goes as far as saying that you should play it on the Wii instead. Excuse me, that game is no longer in print and most sellers want $100 bucks or more for it. What kind of dumbass recommendation is that?

that is dumb.  despite the complaints, I'm still hyped for it.

Oh, I'm way hyped for it. It was a world I didn't want to leave in the end. I can't wait to go back again.

I kind of lost track of Niel Gaiman. Last thing I read was Anansi Boys and I knew there was a sequel to American Gods coming out at the time. But that was like 7 or 8 years ago. I used to read a lot, really need to get back in that habit.

I wasn't reading at all (other than tech manuals) for years. I've fixed that.

Heh, not worried about those issues with 3DS Xenoblade, it's a handheld port, not the second coming of Jesus.

5 stars for Alex. :)

I'm going to send you the code for Costume Quest. Blake still can't use it.

Ah, the Clock Tower. That's where my brother gave up on PQ, and where I spend a decent chunk of playtime getting lost before stumbling across the end.

Don't have a New 3DS, but I'll just boot up my Wii copy if I want to scratch the Xenoblade itch for now.

Hope your parents feel better soon.

Thanks Esteban, I'm not giving up on the clock tower but it is taking me so long to get through this game and I don't know why.

I wish I still had my Wii copy.

I met China once, he's a cool guy, the only thing of Gaiman i'm reading right now is his new Sandman series. It's worth the wait for though georgeous visuals though.

Haven't caught any Xenoblade 3DS news yet so this is a little off putting, I'm sure it's not as bad as you say they describe it though. We'll see.

Hope you parents feel better, illness to the elderly ca b e quite harrowing.

Thanks Ash. Mum and dad seem  a lot better so I'm not quite as stressed.

I have the first volume of Sandman and it was great. I'm still plugging through Embassytown because there are some really good ideas.

I'm just going to be glad to have Xenoblade back in my life again. A lot of love went into that game and we don't find that as much anymore.
