I'm Not Liking This New Trend....

So has anyone else noticed that game delays are becoming more and more popular?  Everytime it seems a game is getting pushed back. I know it's better for them to delay than release a broken game but I mean come on, don't give a release date if the game isn't no where near done. If your give me a date or even a estimated time frame then that should mean it's atleast halfway or near complete.  Well for those excited for Dead Island 2 your waiting till next year now. I was excited for this title but the very little updates on it gave away that it was going to get delayed. I just don't like that this is becoming a trend. I knows delays have always been apart of the gaming industry but you can not fucking tell me it's not getting worse because it is. Grand Theft Auto 5 for PC*2 times,I think*, The Witcher 3*2 times*, The Order, Batman Arkham Knight and now Dead Island 2. There is probably more that I'm not remembering. I just even has a teenager delays did not seem to happen this much and now practically a great deal of big name titles are being pushed back. I think I'll just do myself a favor and not put too much faith into release dates anymore until it's a day away from release.

.......

yup....

If delays create a better product, then I am all for them.  The thing that I really have an issue with is companies announcing games more than 1 year out.  I think that in an ideal world, companies would reveal a game at E3 or some function and the game would release a few months later.  If more companies did this then I think that we would have fewer major game delays.

To your point, I lost all desire to play The Order:  1886 because of all the delays.

I had forgotten that The Witcher 3 was my most anticipated game of the year because it had been delayed a few times.

Woflenstein:  The Old Blood was announced a month or so ago and is releasing on Tuesday.  I couldnt be more excited for that game.

See that would be great too, has long has there almost done or halfway there at E3 then I'd be all for this sort of  thing. I'm still excited for The Witcher 3, I don't think anything could kill it for me especially with what I've seen and the fact I love the series but I do feel that way about Dead Island 2 now.

Skyrim was announced December 2010 and was released 11 months later.  That's the kind of timeline I am hoping for.  I would be super happy of Bethesda announced Fallout 4 at E3 and it came out this fall.

When the delay gets to much I just lose interest. I'm super stoked for Crackdown on XboxOne, but it's pushed back to 2016. I almost don't care now. That's too long.

I do too but it also depends on how the game was previously handled. If they atleast kept me updated with video and screenshots then my interest might just stick. It did for The Witcher 3. However if your like Dead Island 2 and keep it all under wraps then I'm definitely not going to carry an interest. I'm worried about Zelda U for this reason alil bit.

With Crackdown not coming out this year, I really could care less about it now. Until I hear a hard release date, I'm not going to invest my emotions in it. It's too disappointing to me to know something fun is not coming out the year it's announced. They could show all sorts of trailers, but the time frame is just too long. Triple A game devs have just got to make their games smaller or something to get them out the door. Multiple years worth of waiting is not for me.

Delays don't bother me as much as they used to.  But if I game I was really looking forward to, like say, a new Animal Crossing game got delayed, I'd probably be more annoyed.

Samehere, if Animal crossing had been delayed I'd been one sad puppy.

I wouldn't call it a new trend so much as the cycle circling back. Delays are much more common early on in a console cycle, once the devs get familiar with the hardware, they can pump out games quicker. I remember when all kinds of games got delayed back in 06/07.

I must of not have been interested that much in alot of titles back then. I don't remember that many delays then. You have a very good point.

In a lot of ways, I do concur with the annoyances, but at the same time, just like a friend of mine roughly said when Wii-U Zelda was delayed, i'd rather have a complete masterpiece rather than a rushed job.

Though I do think develpers shouldn't push release dates unless they are confident on their goals. Maybe do something like CD Projekt Red when instead of pushing a release date for Cyberpunk 2077, just say the game will be released when it's ready.

I agree completely. They could just say it's only so far along and maybe give it a year estimate like between 2015 and fall 2016. That way there wouldn't be a loss of interest.

They're popular in the sense that reports are widely/quickly made in internet coverage which also leads to almost everyone-and-their-dog wanting to put their two cents in about it.

That's not a dig at you, by the way. :)
