IGA Rises Again...on Kickstarter!

The campaign for Koji Igarashi's spiritual successor to Castlevania went live on Kickstarter yesterday. Called Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, the game will be a 2.5D "exploration-focused, side-scrolling platformer featuring RPG and crafting elements." I expected the game would be for 3DS and Vita since IGA's most successful post-Symphony of the Night games were all portable but no, this will be a full PS4/X1/PC release! Kickstarter is not the only source of funding for the game but everything else was dependent on the success of the campaign—the need to prove there is still an audience for this kind of game—and the initial funding goal was met within hours! The current tally is already over twice the goal and there are still 31 days to go. Take that, Konami.

Go take a look at the Kickstarter page. Pledge some money. I did. When this game comes out...in 2ish years...I have high hopes that it will be frickin' awesome.

This is the video pitch on Kickstarter. It's pretty cool. Here's an article about how it was made. It's pretty cool too. Also, it's proof that Igarashi is a vampire Wink

This is the first kickstarter that actually has me tempted since Shovel Knight.  I am glad to see that we are getting another game in this vein from a legend.

This is only the second thing I've ever backed on Kickstarter. I might not have done it for just a digital copy but they're sending out physical discs! And playing other Metroidvanias, while certainly fun...it's just not the same without that gothic horror atmosphere Smile

I'm not really into Kickstarter, but I think this is great.  THe world NEEDS a great Castlevania type game again, dammit.

Amen! And ya know, Snee, they're going to be sending out physical discs, a first for a Kickstarter project. I just wish I had money to get some of the cool rewards, but mainly I just want to play this game really bad.

No thanks. I'll wait till Konami releases a proper castlevania title.

And that's why this Kickstarter is a good thing after all Wink I'm certainly excited, even if it doesn't bear the Castlevania name.

Saw the news over Tumblr and I was pretty surprised that almost like Yooka-Laylee, it managed to get 1 million in a short amount of time. Can't wait for the final product and I think i'll get once it's released.

I just checked it again and it's not far from 2 million...and there are still 30 days to go!

I am really excited about this. Really loving the art style too, kind of reminds me of Odinspere.

I know those are just mock ups but I do hope they go with something very stylized. They look really good.
