I just read this a few minutes ago. With my Dreamcast version long since sold this is great news.

The first game which is available on PSN is a great game too and if you haven't played it, get on that ok?

I have Grandia II and III on PS2. I'll have to go pick up the first game on PSN sometime.

Yeah I'd actually prefer it on PS-something or other.

yeah I appreciate these games are coming to PC, but it's not my favorite place to play RPG's, like I like how those Ys games are on Steam, but I'd prefer them on Vita or something.

One of my fav games.  It got me into playing rpgs.

Yeah it is one of the classics. Hope they bring Skies of Arcadia back too. My two favourite DC RPGs

I didn't like Skies.  I played a bit of it before starting Grandia 2 and it put me on the road to not playing rpgs.  Random battles, which I hated at the time, happened too often in that game.  Every few steps I made brought with it a battle and I just wanted to dig into the story and get my bearing on how to play the game.  IMO, Skies hits too hard too soon.  I could probably play it now, but at the time, I was just getting my toes wet with rpgs.  I avoided playing rpgs before then, because I didn't want to read and random battles annoyed me.

The random battles were a bit excessive but I enjoyed the story so I soldiered on.

Also the Gamecube version if you can find it is supposed to have toned down the randoms

I dunno, I think i'd rather play the first Grandia before the sequel. Hope they can also bring that over Steam.

I got my PS2 copy from Gamestop when they were purging all their PS2 and xbox stuff. Its in really good condition and I got it for $3 bucks. I wish they would maker another, Grandia 3 was pretty good.

From what I heard they messed up the PS2 version of Grandia II compared to the DC version. Grandia III was fun but I never got to finish it before it sold. :(

How much is the first Grandia on PSN and what's the barrier of entry for a JRPG noob like me? I mean I guess I can answer that first question myself, but if you happen to know off hand ...

$5.99. The game isn't hard to get into and the battle system while turn based moves pretty quickly and involves strategy like delaying enemy turns by knocking them back. I didn't find it all that difficult.
