E3 Thoughts- HOLY CRAP!

So, there have been a few announcements that have made E3 kind of epic....okay very epic. First while I don't have a Xboxone or PS4 I will say this... They both did something that the others could only salivate at. First the XboxOne will be backwards compatible with 360 games at no extra cost. This is great for 360 fans who were still holding onto that 360 of theirs and it's nice they'll have another reason to adopt to the next gen. PS4 is still the only one that does not do this. The PS4 meanwhile is getting great new exclusives like oh IDK... that FFVII remake everyone has been clamoring for since the PS3 tech demo. or how about The Last Guardian is finally coming. or even yes...a game no one expected and I will be supporting... SHENMUE 3!!! Let's kickstart this immediately!!! So PS4 brought the great exclusives.

Anyways, I figured I'd talk my bread and butter. My little Wii U that could. The 3DS has a great line up. I'm sure that Mario  & Luigi: Paper Jam will be better than sticker star. You got a Metroid Prime for 3DS. A four swords style Legend of Zelda in Triforce Heroes, and Fire Emblem.

But I gotta talk about the hypest of hype. Super Mario Maker. Still...can't...wait...it's...killing...me... (dies*). Third party was again nowhere in sight (no Devil's Third, no Rodea: The Sky Soldier) We get another Sonic & Mario Olympic mini game compilation and Skylander pack though!...yay...*sarcastically. I did enjoy the Star Fox footage and everything is coming around the corner. (Yoshi in October, Mario Maker in September, Fatal Frame in fall, Star Fox and Mario Tennis (I'm guessing around Christmas it does say holiday 2015), Xenoblade in December as well. The only future announcement was SMTXFE (In 2016) so once again we'll be waiting for any Zelda wii u footage in 2016 when hopefully it's ready.

In a way I'm disappointed though. Especially with Animal Crossing Amiibo: Monopoly Mario Party Edition. Yes I know that's not it, but it might as well be called that. Which brings me to amiibo. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Kudos Nintendo. I hope you're happy. You killed everything I used to like about you. The DLC/microtransactions are putting you finally with the times. So I hope you enjoy adding 3 characters, a stage, costumes, and just all in all ruining smash bros. I would love to have Ryu, Mewtwo, Lucas, and Roy...I just don't think I should have to fork over $20 extra for that. Call me old fashioned...but I miss the time it took to unlock these characters. Now it's pay for extra course, missions, fighters, stages, etc. in nintendo games. A thing I never thought would happen. But God help them if they actually put in features we want like oh voice chat in Splatoon  or smash with friends while facing eah other. Alas, I'll stay using skype.

All this griping won't matter. Nintendo doesn't pay attention to me and they definitely have never read any of my blogs. And for me...I'm not sure if this will be it for me. I always say that of course. I mean my PS3 is great...but when do I get a PS4? I want one...but I mean is it worth waiting around for a couple of rpgs and Shenmue? Or what is the NX going to be? I love Nintendo. I've grown up with Nintendo. We have our differences a lot of the time, but I wish I knew how to quit them! Anyways, that is just my musings.

So if you like my ramblings comment below! It makes the grinch in me feel all fuzzy inside!

I quit Nintendo for the first time this generation and bought a PS4. Only thing I'm upset about is the backwards compatibility thing so far.

Yeah it's great I can play my wii games on my wii u and my wii has basically become my Gamecube. I think it'll be a matter of time before PS4 does something for their PS3 titles other than buying them on the PSN store digitally

Their current solution is PSNow, which allows you to stream a library of 100 or so games for about $20 a month. The fact Xbox One will be backwards compatible with select 360 discs irks me. Then again, I never owned a PS3, and I like a lot of the games on PSNow, but ... yeah, I'm a bit salty.

I'll have my own E3 blog up by the end of the week or weekend, so I hope you can come back to read that.  I'll have plenty of good and bad things to say about Nintendo, too, believe me.

I'll be sure to read it when it comes out!

I can't remember an E3 that was this exciting.  SquareEnix brought it this year, though their megaton, FFVII, is probably quite a few years away.  Sony did well with Last Guardian's return and Uncharted 4, plus a bunch of new first party IPs, and Microsoft had a nice show as well.  Hopefully Hololens will be what Kinect wasn't (namely useful for gaming).  They have a nice lineup of exclusives which will actually be out this year.  Also, backwards compatibility is welcome, but I think it's more of a PR move than an actual benefit.  Only 100 games will work right away (sounds like a lot, but how many do you actually own?), and MS did the same thing on 360 and didn't really keep up the momentum.  Also, most people say they want BC, but nobody ends up really using it, especially once more current gen games become available.  But it is a nice option for those who will use it.  I haven't seen Nintendo's lineup yet, but there are quite a few Wii U games that I plan on buying (Xenoblade, Fatal Frame, and SMTXFE), which is more than I can say for previous years.

Yeah there are a lot of titles coming this year. But in terms of the future there isn't much to look forward to. The games we know are Zelda, Devil's Third, and SMTXFE, but I really hoped we would have some sort of F-Zero or something announced for next year. I'm kinda bummed, the Wii U is on life support with amiibo and really I think once the NX is announced at next year's E3 that the Wii U will be shoved aside for it. Still it's amazing how kind of limited Wii U was supported

I might be in the minority but I don't see backwards compatibility as a big deal especially with the PS4. I know in the store they sell digital versions of some of their games from the Playstation up to the PS3.

I didn't see the Nintendo presser, but I'm a little bummed in reading that Nintendo has jumped on the microtransactions. The charm with Nintendo was that they didn't follow what Sony and Microsoft are doing. They made solid first party games, and may have struck gold with the collectablilty of their Amiibo line. In my opinion microtransactions are a step closer to following Sony and Microsoft. Down the road I don't want to see various powerups in a Super Mario game to be an option for a buck, or have the same problem with a Metroid or Pokemon but now its only a matter of time.

Yeah I never thought I would see the day either. I'm telling you there is going to be problems sooner rather than later with amiibo. It's already in a fully fledged animal crossing game. It's just a frightening thought.

Whoa! Mario & Luigi Paper Jam and Monopoly Mario Party Edition both get a raised eyebrow from me. I'm interested.

Although pricy, I don't have much problem with Nintendo's DLC and at the very least they are not abusing it like other companies and guess except for that Animal Crossing, most of the Amiibo support has been optional.

In a lot of ways, I guess it was a very relaxed E3 this year on many sides and Ubi with EA being their usual douchbags (except for Unravel, I love that reveal). Nintendo I think was more subdued than last year, but they still had a strong showing and i'm happy as long as there's Star Fox, which there was!

On a unrelated note: No Splatoon voice-chat! Do you have any idea how much douchebaggery that unleashes? Don't you remember that Splatoon is for all freaking ages? As someone who plays Team Fortress 2 a lot, no voice chat! (atleast not in public matches....).
