Pixlbit Nation happy Friday! The weekend is back, the summer is in full swing, currently it is a hazy Friday morning, and do you folks have anything fun planned? I’m going to spend time with the Air Conditioner, and maybe some naps with maybe a trip to the weekend Swapmeet. I wonder if Fake Lego Lady has any new products. I was there last weekend and she didn’t show up. It was also in the low triple digits for our temperature. This week I’m hoping she’s there because I saw online that there is a set of Flash minifigures and that would be a nice addition to the collection. Enough with Fake Lego talk, let’s get this edition of Quick Hits started!

Chris Listens To…

Podcasts: I’m currently listening to Bayside High & Drunk and I had two episodes that I was saving and I’m finally listening to them. They covered the Mall and Screetch’s Birthday episodes. Easily one of my favorite podcasts.

Music: I was listening to a couple of albums I ripped from vinyl and I’ve decided to continue with my conversion of bringing my vinyl to iTunes. I stopped for a little bit but I need to continue because I have a bunch of stuff I want to bring over. I have some old Hawaiian stuff from the 60s. The touristy stuff as well as an album of music that was made for the state when it joined the union.

Chris Watches…

True Detective: Season 2 has started and I am excited about the this season especially since its located in Southern California. I’m digging the characters and how each one of them are so different yet are brought together by a murder case. I can’t wait to see how everything plays out.

WWE Tough Enough:

The reality show of 13 contestants goes through various trials to try and earn the one spot for a WWE Superstar and WWE Diva. You quickly see whom the “villains” are in the show by proclaiming they are the best, based off of two events. Its still too early to find someone I would root for because right now everyone seems to be playing a character. You have everything from the Bayou Gator guy, to a couple of MMA fighters. I’m a bit disappointed in Chris Jericho’s hosting. It seems a bit flat especially for a guy who’s is charismatic, but its only the first episode so things will change. The judges are fine, and I’m hoping they bring up more of the technical side of wrestling once the show hits its groove.

Big Brother:

Big Brother is back and they had a two-night premier. The first night we saw eight houseguests enter the Big Brother House, and they competed in a HOH and were made aware of the new twists in the show. There is a thing called Big Brother Takeover, which we will see more of in the coming weeks, and a twist that the audience knows about. One of the houseguest is an identical twin and they will be switching off throughout the show without the other houseguests knowing. If they can survive through five eliminations, both twins are able to enter the game. The next night six more houseguests enter and another twist, two contestants from Amazing Race enter the house.

For this season I decided to spend the $5.99 a month and get the live feed. With this subscription I also get full access to CBS’ TV library and I can catch up on Scorpions. I spent an hour last night watching and listening to houseguests scheme in the HOH room, and I already know what’s going to happen on Sunday’s episode, which is fun. Having the live feed also makes it feel like I’m watching a real Truman Show (that was such a cool movie.)

Wrestling: During lunch the past week I’ve been taking in old episodes of WWE Raw from the Attitude Era (late 90s, early 2000s) and man I forgot how raunchy it was. The signs people brought into the arena, along with the storylines is crazy. This was the time I got back into wrestling and would watch a lot in college and was lucky enough to see a live taping of Raw and WCW Monday Night Nitro (this was on campus).

Chris Takes Pictures…

I didn’t take that many pictures this past week because there were a couple of fires around my area so everything smelled of smoke and I didn’t want to spend a lot of time outside.

This is my first shot. It was around dusk and the smoke from the fire in the next county still created a huge smoke cloud and this was the sun. The red tint made it look like a planet

My next picture was probably taken (I didn’t look at the original photo’s info) in the morning when the sky was still had some red and orange tint

The fire I believe was contained at this point so there wasn’t the huge cloud of smoke but there were some traces, which gave the sky that orange tint.

The next set of images was from when I was trying my hand at night photography. The moon was bright and I went with my zoom lens

This picture doesn’t do it justice, but the moon was really bright. When I zoomed in on the image later on in Photoshop I saw this

I thought this was really cool to see some of the bigger features of the moon’s surface like this, and I was shocked about what I could see with my equipment. Can you imagine how cool this would look with pro grade stuff? I wonder if I could connect my camera to a telescope. That would be awesome.

The final image was taken during my night photography session and it was a more of a throwaway shot at first. I was packing up the tripod but decided to give it a quick try considering there was some nice glow from the moon

I like how there are bunches of pink in a sea of green.

Thanks for taking time out to look at my pictures!

Randoms

For the last couple of months SDSU has had an Instagram/Twitter promotion where if you tag your photo of you wearing gear with a special hashtag it could be included in the upcoming football schedule poster. Well the poster was released a couple of days ago and I like what SDSU did

I like the combining of social media, and the community to rally behind the county’s only FBS team.

Later on today the USWNT will take on China. The US will not have Rapinoe and Holliday because of two BS Yellow cards earlier this week against Columbia. Hopefully the US can continue winning. USA! USA!

Pickups!

Games

This game I picked up at a rarely visited GameStop. I figured after coming up empty at the Swapmeet to make a trip out to this spot to see if they had anything good, and I found a game I’ve been kind of eyeing

I talked about it on Monday, it’s a little different from your average racing game but I do enjoy it and cures the need to race.

I bought this game after deciding on Tuesday morning to get it

I picked it up at Target and when I asked the employee if I could get a game out, he said “Batman?” Apparently it was the only game selling that day and I also picked up the Season Pass.

I’ve been playing this game since Tuesday afternoon (installing and downloading the update takes a bit of time) but I’m really enjoying this game. I was laughing a bit at the story because I could see something like this happening on the show Arrow or as I like to call it, Green Batman.

I was having a little fun with the skins and posted a picture on Instagram

This looks like the cover of Batman’s Mixtape

The Batmobile is freaking awesome! I had my doubts about it, but after holding the Hot Wheel and seeing what it does in the game, I’m sold, and I wish Lego introduced it in their DC line.

In other games, here are the games that got me into wanting to do the $5 Hour Challenge. They’re nothing fancy but I dig them

I have another reason to use my steering wheel, and I remember folks talking about the Trauma Center games

Tournament of Legends is a fighting game, and I bought Dave Mirra because I really enjoyed the Playstation and PS2 games. It was the Tony Hawk of BMX games before Mat Hoffman’s BMX, which is also really good.

I don’t like Zombies but I wanted to give Deadrising another shot. Hollywood Squares because it’s a game show that I rarely watch but always thought it would be fun to play.

This game I talked about on Monday

Music

I didn’t visit the mom & pop last week but instead I went back to one of my gold mine thrift stores that sells a ton of CDs without raising the price if they are mainstream artists.

I really wanted the rap albums on the bottom. Maroon 5 was because I wanted to complete the discography, and the same with Taylor Swift. I thought this was the one I needed to complete the main albums but it turns out I already own it. I mislabeled the album name on my spreadsheet.

Walmart decided to fill their $5 bin with some really good stuff like early Metallica and 70s rock. The bad part is I own most of it so whoever stumbled across the bin at my old local store and didn’t have them hopefully bought them. Anyways I did buy a couple of albums

Ace of Base because it was one of those albums that came out during high school and I had it on tape (I bought it, not taped like some of my other stuff) and ELO because well c’mon they had some catchy toons. I think Do Ya is currently being used in a commercial.

Toys

The one toy I bought this week was at the former local Walmart (a new one was built down the street)

It’s a low rider and it has flames. How do you say no? I’m going to open it and place it next to my other lowrider covered in flames

Alright Pixlbit I am off. I need to visit the bank and buy a roasted chicken from Walmart (their garlic chicken, and lemon chicken are really good.) Have a good weekend and if you’re in Southern California stay cool because damn triple digit weather sucks.

That’s all for now, more later!

-Chris

I talked about it earlier so naturally I had to include it right? Have a good weekend Pixlbit!

Dig those moon pictures. Good that you mentioned CHN vs USA was today, because I was with my mom watching USA vs COL earlier and thought it was live because they were re-running it on Fox Sports Southwest. I thought these got aired on national TV! So I'm watching the game now on Fox in my room. I'm 25% through Arkham Knight and I might just get that season pass as well. I can't get enough of this game.

It's a good time to go Wii hunting. I may do that tomorrow.
