If I'm not mistaking, Batman first appeared in Detective Comics, which are full of crime stories and many other adult themes. Early Batman would not be for children by today's standards. Today's serious movie Batmen are closer to the original Batman.
Ranking the Batmen

So I'm at a weird place right now where I want to gush over Arkham Knight, yet respect you all to much to spoil why the story to this game is so incredible and made me ignore all the shortcomings of the PC version. So instead I'm going to rank all the Batmans we've seen hit the silver screen.
7. George Clooney (Batman and Robin)
Some people defend this movie. I am not one of those people. I actually like cheesy Batman, but this is not cheesy. It's stupid. Really stupid. Batman having some random gadget from out of nowhere that saves the day is cheesy, but not stupid. A bat credit card is stupid. Nipples in the batsuit is stupid. This whole movie is just stupid.
6. Val Kilmer (Batman Forever)
Val Kilmer was pretty forgettable overall. He wasn't over the top bad like Clooney, but there wasn't really anything memorable about him. He was completely overshadowed by Jim Carrey.
5. Michael Keaton (Batman/Batman Returns)
As much as I want to put Keaton above my next choice, I really can't. He just didn't have as good of material to work with. The Joker killing his parents and Batman killing people just hurt those movies. Still, Keaton's a damn great actor and gives as good a performance you can get with the material.
4. Christian Bale (Batman Begins/The Dark Knight/The Dark Knight Rises)
Bale is more interesting than Kilmer, as he had a super in depth origin story, a tragic romance, and the whole "get out of retirement" angle, giving him something great for each movie. But he's not why you remember these movies. You remember the villains and the atomsphere. Batman remains the least interesting part of his own movie. However, that said, it's more of a testament to how good the other stuff in these movies are (well, the first two at least. Rises was just decent).
3. Adam West (Batman: The Movie)
Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.........
Want to know how good Adam West was? Every other actor went onto do other things. Adam West, on the other hand, only plays Batman or himself. That's how awesome he is as Batman! But seriously, I love just how he tries so hard to make the hero fun as opposed to the other Batmans. It's cheesy as hell and his movie isn't as good as many other Batmans, but it's still a fun movie and at the end of the day, you smile more thinking of Adam than any of the lower Batmans on this list.
2. Kevin Conroy (Mask of the Phantasm)
The amazing Animated Series found its way to get its own movie. So naturally I have to give their Batman a high spot since this cartoon pretty much nailed everything about the superhero. What I love most about him is how different, yet phony he sounds as Bruce Wayne and how he talks to Alfred with his Batman voice, showing just which identity is his real one. It's a small detail, but one which fleshes his character out so much more than any other Batman.
1. Will Arnett (The Lego Movie)
Is it saying something that the best Batman exists as a satire of how Batman has been too serious nowadays and we need to remind ourselves that he was created to be a fun hero for children? Yes, yes it is. But Will Arnett was a perfect choice to be Batman in this movie, offering his amazing comedic talent mixed with the movie's incredibly sharp writing. Every time he says "Bruce Wayne? Who's that? He sounds like a cool guy!" I burst out laughing.
