Good morning Pixlbit! It is currently a “cool” 90 degrees here in Sunny Southern California as we wait to see if thunderstorms hit my little section of California. Surprisingly it isn’t humid and unlike yesterday the sky isn’t blanketed with clouds. So the weekend was spent playing through the rest of the main story of Batman Arkham Knight and a couple of other games sprinkled in. Let’s get this party started!
Another Game Off Mount Backlog – Spoiler Free Edition
I spent the majority of time this past weekend finishing off Batman Arkham Knight. I sprinkled some of the side missions in the play through while finishing up the main storyline. This is the most fun I’ve had with a non Lego Batman game since Batman Arkham Asylum on the PS3. The Batmobile is a lot of fun especially roaming around Gotham and blasting everything in its way. My one gripe with the Batmobile is when I hit the bad guys when they are running they are knocked out. Seriously if you have a vehicle that big, and someone hits the turbo while aiming at a running guy, Batman’s no deadly force is gone. *I wouldn’t do this.
Hey I know that name from a certain TV Show about a Green Batman and his bow
There were a couple of Oh S**T moments and I found the puzzles to be challenging but not extremely difficult. I do like that it was an open game so if I wanted to not follow the path of the main story and instead go off on one of many side quests I could and everything was kept tidy by the story wheel. A rare thing about this game is once I finished it I kept wanting to play more of it, take down those pesky side missions, and currently in game I am around 74% finished. I would finish the Riddler’s side missions but I’m currently stuck so I’ll save that for the end.
Love this game, and I can’t wait to take on the DLC!
The $5 Hour: Tournament of Legends – Wii ($2.70 from GameStop)
Plot: 10 Fighters based off of Greek Mythology fight each other. Think a bad PS2 Fighting game thrown into the Wii to use the Wii controls. Thank goodness the game is classic controller compatible because that’s how I played the game.
Gameplay: The controls are simple (again I used the classic controller) fighting game controls. Its similar to the PS2/PS3 Mortal Kombat games where you can step to the side and not take place in a side-facing environment. You have 90 seconds to win three rounds against your opponent. After each KO, there is a rest period where your fallen opponent has to perform a number of moves to refill the health meter. The winning fighter is left with their current health bar. If the 90 seconds is up and there still is no winner, you go into overtime where its still first to three wins. After each battle your character unlocks new weapons and special abilities that were taken from fallen opponents.
The audio is very repetitive and the taunts get stale after awhile. In some levels I’ve notice an animal or monster will show up and when prompted on screen you can either move out of the way, or take damage when it comes towards the fighters. The graphics is very late PS2/early PS3 which seems to be on par with other Wii games I’ve played.
After The Hour: I got through 9 fighters and the 10th kicked my behind. After one play through with this guy I stopped, and tried again the next day and finished off the game. The cutscenes are supposed to be scrolls with painted images but they don’t look that great. If you’re trying to complete a Wii library then pick up Tournament of Legends, otherwise leave it on the shelf. There are better fighting games for a couple of dollars more.
Other Games I Played
NBA 2K15 – PS4: I’ve decided to sim the road games for the first season because I don’t want to win the NBA Finals for this season, clear out a couple of players from the roster, and hopefully draft some good talent (I have three picks in the first round including one outside the Top 5.) So far the Milwaukee Bucks are a half game out of first, and haven’t played first place Cleveland at home.
Puzzle Dragons Super Mario Bros – 3DS: I got out of World 2! I’m still crawling through the levels but I’m starting to take my time with the puzzles trying to set up some chain reactions. I might have to check out some vids on YouTube to see how I can improve my game.
Simpsons Tapped Out – iPad: There was a new update last week
In the spirit of the Women’s World Cup (USA! USA! USA! I BELIEVE THAT WE WILL WIN!) Springfield is caught up in a new game that Homer invented that makes no sense but it’s fun to take your 4-man team to other Springfield’s and play (all you do is tap a flag and watch the animations of each player and then collect special in game cash and energy drinks.)
The game also unlocked more land to purchase (it’s around 20 million to buy all available land), a bunch of new characters, and flags from around the world including a couple of fun ones like Fart Flag, and the Jolly Roger.
Spider-man Unlimited – iPad: I finished the 7-day tournament to unlock this guy
I haven’t used him yet, but I probably will once I get my top four characters to upgraded enough to play the mission in the comic book. There is also a new vote on the next Spider-man character
I went with Devil-Spider II because I just finished Daredevil a couple of weeks ago.
WWE Immortals/Injustice – iPad: I’m in the process of unlocking Dean Ambrose if I ever get around to finishing the final two levels. Its starting to feel like a chore.
Injustice also has Arkham Origins Bane, and I need to start on that. This one should take that long, but again it feels like a chore with both games.
Other Gaming Stuff
I saw this on Reddit and it made me laugh.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
For you folks who want a swanky looking modern NES that isn’t emulator based
The folks over at Analogue Interactive have this sleek NES with a slot for NES and one for Famicom games. Sound good? Wait. The console costs $499, $50 more if you want it in Black, Red, or Blue, and add another $80 if you want that HDMI Goodness. Yeah a bit pricey for my blood but if you have that kind of money burning a hole in your wallet to play some RC Pro Am in HD here you go!
Ok Pixlbit I am off to designin’. Have a good week.
That’s all for now, more later!
