This just came out of nowhere on my Facebook feed, but according to Polygon, he is dead of a bile duct growth. 

I didn't know he was formerly a HAL Laboratories programmer (Kirby, Smash Bros.) and it's awesome he could see the success of the DS and Wii as well as introduce Nintendo Direct.

R.I.P.

That is very sad news and I was shocked.  He was younger than my parents.  I thought he was older than that.  You could tell he really tried to do his best, at least I thought so.  I wonder who will replace him?  I kind of doubt it'll be Miyamoto, but I hope they pick someone good.
