Quick Hits: Happy Birthday Disneyland

Good Friday Morning Pixlbit Nation! How are you folks today? It is a warm 85 degrees here in Sunny Southern California. I think we are getting some much needed rain in the next couple of days because there is a Hurricane off the coast of Baja than is pulling/bringing the wet stuff.

Today is also a big day in Southern California because Disneyland turns 60 years old. Many moons ago when I was a happy Cast Member I worked the 45th Birthday where we were given special buttons and a couple of guests offered money for them. I have it somewhere on a lanyard in box. Anyways-Happy Birthday Disneyland! A couple of fun Disneyland/Chris facts:

  1. I visited Walt’s Apartment while on a special tour for Disney College Program Cast Members
  2. While doing some training, my lead decided it would be more fun to roam around the back of the park. We sat where they (at the time) parked the submarines backstage (ooh Disney lingo), I walked around the little room under Tom Sawyer’s Island where the Fantasmic Dragon lives, and watched the fireworks show from backstage
  3. I miss the super cheap fried chicken. The cast member eatery, The Inn-Between, is right behind The Plaza Inn that serves the same food but costs a lot more.
  4. There was a Mortal Kombat III machine in the break room that was free, and I spent a lot of time there. One day a headless Goofy walked in, and proceeded to kick my behind.
  5. Some famous folks I met while as a happy Cast Member: Axel Rose (not friendly), Hugh Hefner and his then seven girlfriends, Tim Salmon after a game we watched backstage, and Rob Schneider (very friendly). Some of the Disney family would appear every now and then

Chris Watches…

Big Brother Live Feed: I’ve been hooked on the live feed for about a couple of weeks now. My routine is a little odd because I’ll watch it from 11 to midnight, go to sleep, wake up around 2 or 3ish and watch another half hour before going back to sleep. Around lunch I’ll catch up from the point I fell asleep earlier in the morning. A couple of times the shame kicked in with me waking up with the iPad on the bed and the “Are you still watching” screen is on.

Castaway: This was the first time my younger cousins watched this flick so at times I sat down with them to watch. I might have spoiled some of it because when they told me they wanted to watch Castaway on the PS4 I would say “WILSON, I’m sorry. I’m sorry Wilson” I’d get puzzled looks. After the movie they were all saying Wilson!

Some Random Thomas The Train Movie: I had no idea Alec Baldwin was in these flicks. I was like “Hey” and my uncle said “yeah he’s in these flicks.”

Jeopardy!: I’ve gotten my cousins hooked on the show (13 and 10) We keep score on who answered the most and their rules are those numbers don’t mean anything when it comes to final Jeopardy! They know their history because the question about the Louisiana Purchase is common knowledge at their schools. I cleaned up on categories like TV Dads, and Fiction, so we’re even.

50 First Dates: This has become my cousin’s favorite movie, and its quite funny. Rob Schnider’s pidgin is pretty good, and I asked my cousins why they don’t speak pidgin. I’m terrible at it, but I have a couple of phrases and I asked them why the number three is pronounced “Tree”

Tour de France: I was watching it every morning but for the past couple of days I have no idea what’s going on. Local news guy is more concerned with trying to push his really bad catch phrase “Hey…did you catch this.” The scenery is freaking awesome because the small towns you see, you just don’t have anything like it in America, and its always fun to see those nut jobs run beside individual riders and some get in their way.

Chris Listens To…

History: America’s Greatest Hits: As I currently type this blog entry I am listening to the second part of the album. One of my friends in college is big into classic rock and she liked them so I listened to them and it turned out a couple of songs were from my childhood. Anyways I thought I would give it a listen today to break up the podcasts, and Top 200 playlist on my phone/iTunes.

And Janet Jackson borrowed a certain guitar riff

Chris Takes Pictures

Ok so the first shot is when for some reason everyone was outside earlier this week and I brought out my camera because I thought a certain cloud formation was interesting. It was around 8ish and I spotted this

It was only a small section but I like the color

A little bit later as the clouds were moving I saw that they were just above the two planets that are really visible right now

Before going inside for the night I decided to take a quick shot of the neighbor’s homes

It’s cropped but and I did some manipulating on Photoshop but I liked how three houses all had the American Flags up. One of my neighbors even had a streamer of what I think was a battle he took part in. Super nice guy and the first person I met here.

We celebrated my cousin’s birthday with a nice bundt cake from Nothing Bundt Cakes and I thought I’d change up the cloud pictures with a cake that was really good…and the frosting kind of looks like a cloud.

My final picture was fun one I took with my phone after watching the Superman/Batman movie (again I don’t have high hopes for it, and I’m pre-blaming Batman)

My friend and I think there is going to be a lot of staring.

Chris Does Manly Stuff

So the window on the driver’s side door decided to break and my uncle and I were going to fix it (it was 90/10 his work. I was there)

Thanks to the YouTube app on the iPad “we” figured out how to remove the paneling and see the guts inside the door. I had no idea the window that big of a piece, and props to the designers who figured out how to stuff a bunch of things inside

Here’s the little motor that raises and lowers the window. The cable on one side snapped so the window was stuck. Thankfully Auto Zone had a replacement and under an hour everything was replaced. I threw away the old stuff while wearing gloves so you could say it was now 80/20 of my uncle’s work.

Chris Goes Random…

Comic Book Movies:

I’ll check out Ant-Man next week. I was going to watch today but its hot, and besides the trip to deposit my paycheck at the bank was enough traveling today (and maybe a little trip to Ross on the way home for some cool cheap finds)

So new X-Men is going to have Jennifer Lawrence, Olivia Munn, and Kate Mara sounds freaking awesome on paper.

I thought the trailer for Harley Quinn: The Movie…err Suicide Squad looked interesting. It’s a shame that DC isn’t connecting the Suicide Squad from the TV Universe because I really liked that group. I hoping for the best for Squad but I’m not digging Joker.

While roaming around the garage look what I found for my flashback toy

Check out the original price from Gemco

I remember my mom put it on layaway at Gemco (remember Gemco?) and we went to pick it up a week or two before Christmas. My Voltron was the fun one with lead paint. My cousin had the plastic one that you stick the figures in. My first original Voltron was the Japanese toy where the missles on the Yellow Lion’s back and ears would actually shoot. The American ones didn’t have the springs.

I have a new appreciation for Capri Sun and Otter Pops. I’m really digging the Otter Pops and I have a freezer full of them. I think they could be a good breakfast.

Pickups!

Games

So physical games this week, but while sitting next to my younger cousin talking about strategies for his Springfield in Tapped Out I spotted the sale banner in the app store and picked up three games for .99 cents each

It’s Goat Simulator, how do you not buy it for a buck?

This is the first flying game I bought since I bought the apps that came with little gliders a couple of Christmas’ ago.

Spider-Man is like the Batman games where you tap to hit the people and you have to watch out for the enemies with the lightning bolts above their head because they are going to hit you next.

I might used these games for $5 Hour

Music

Brian Wilson’s CD dropped to $7 and I thought it was a good time to give it a try. It’s all new stuff.

I haven’t listened to it all, I’ve skipped to some collaboration with She & Him, Sebu, and Kacey Musgraves. You can hear Beach Boys in the songs with some modern twists.

Here’s a live version. So far I like the album and it has a nice summer beach vibe.

Toys

I think I’m cooling on the Hot Wheels Hype. Earlier today I was at Walmart and just scanned the section. I did buy a couple at Toys R Us when I was taking advantage of a Lego sale

I couldn’t remember if I already bought this blue version of the Batman Live Batmobile so I bought it again. I also found the Aston Martin in the silver that I remember from the Bond flicks.

I finally added this Lego Batmobile to the collection and all I am missing now in the Batman releases are the Batman Mech, the submarine, and a little set with the Aquasuit and Penguin. I like this set more than the earlier 2012 set Batmobile. This one looks more like a racecar.

Alright Pixlbit, my weekend has started and I’d like to catch some Big Brother Feed, and maybe take a nap. Have a good weekend!

That’s all for now, more later!

-Chris

So here’s a little flashback I posted on Instagram a couple of years ago with the caption “Me and some peeps in front of a lady’s house in Anaheim”

When I worked at the Blue Ribbon Bakery I would always hear this parade. I think I’ve only seen it once or twice but I memorized it and funny thing is that I can still recite what the voice says (it also helps that I have the audio track on my iPod)

Happy 60th Happiest Place on Earth!

Axel Rose not friendly?  Color me surprised!  Tongue Out  I think it's really cool you got to see Walt's apartment though.  I've seen it in a documentary I think.

I like Castaway.  I think people went into it expecting something different.  A touching movie.

your pic of Superman on Batman's Batmobile is hilarious.  That's probably my favorite part of the trailer.  I think it looks cool, but I'm sure there will be parts that will be a little groan worthy.  You might be right though, maybe there will be a lot of staring.

I had high hopes for Xmen until they showed pics of Apocalypse.  What the hell?  I didn't know Kate Mara was in it.  Who does she play?

oh no, wait, that's the pic of their shared universe.  She plays Sue Storm from Fantastic Four, right?

It's such a cool place. We also saw the light they keep lit for Walt and his sandwich press. Our little group was lucky to see all those hidden spots including Club 33, the craziness backstage, and all the other stuff guests never see.

Who knew that there would be so much emotion where 90% of the film is Tom Hanks and a volleyball. That volleyball has some serious acting chops Tongue Out Such a good movie.

I hope I am so wrong about that Batman/Superman flick being terrible but right now that's the vibe I'm getting. Prove me wrong Ben!

Yup Kate Mara is Sue Storm, and I think X-Men is going to get the Avengers treatment where everyone gets their own film, combine for something cool, and have more solo flicks. I wonder when the backlash will kick in about all these comicbook movies and TV shows. I'm enjoying it but at some point folks will say enough with them.

That's cool that you were once a cast member at Disney and thanks for reminding me that I need to listen to the latest Brian Wilson.

It was a fun time being a cast member. Check out the Brian Wilson album, I'm enjoying what I have been listening to.

Getting schooled by Goofy at Mortal Kombat. Now that's a memory.

I like the Bundt photo.

I think I heard some tracks from that Brian Wilson album at some store I was in. I heard those Beach Boys harmonies in there.

That is one of my favorite memories from my time at the Happiest Place on Earth. The cake was good, but the frosting is so rich. I think I might have a slice for breakfast

Oh the harmonies are there. It's just a bit odd hearing other musicians be part of it (not as weird as John Stamos being part of Kokomo video)

1. Walt's apartment sounds like a cool visit. Were there any artifacts from his initial stay? I remember the only original thing in Bill Clinton's home was some book about cats. Fitting.

2. I've never heard of the Fantasmic Dragon.

3. Mmmmm super cheap fried chicken.

4. Headless Goofy kicking your ass sounds like a nightmare. Actually, are you the creator of Five Nights at Freddy's?

5. Seeing James Hetfield rip up Axl Rose's list of primadonna requests is one of the best moments in rock history. Rob Schneider being very friendly makes me feel bad about how people see him because of his movies and their criticism. Not saying the movies are any good, only seen him in Sandler flicks and liked him fine, but still.

I sometimes hate the are you still watching thing on Netflix, especially when it comes on mid-episode. Gotta be a way to turn that off. Don't mind it when sleeping though. Also, the fact Big Brother has a live feed is both kind of cool and makes me never want to be on that show. How often do people bone on that live feed, anyway?

I've never seen Castaway, but got the reference. Just got done watching Kingsman: The Secret Service on my PS4.

Is he called Thomas the Train now? Thought it was tank engine? And yeah, I believe Baldwin replaced George Carlin as the conductor didn't he? I know I watched that show when I was younger, but don't remember much except the visuals.

The Louisiana Purchase is pretty standard history class fare, but TV dads is a special kind of knowledge. Well done. haha

50 First Dates is one Schneider/Sandler movie I have seen. I remember it being cute. Decent movie. I wonder if my Hawaiian friend speaks any pidgin.

Scenery is definitely something better in other countries. There was a cover of a magazine about how boring America looks with all our samey supermarkets and I have to agree. I might watch the Tour De France on the free stationary bike we got.

Those are some tasty jams. I need to get my guitar back out. Speaking of classic rock, I had this exact same thought while the "Freebird" solo played in Kingsman

Good pics as always. What planets are up now? Yay America! That looks like a damn tasty bundt cake. Awesome frosting. Which Batman/Superman movie you watch. The one Netflix had a while back really underwhelmed me. I'm cautiously optimistic for Dawn of Justice, but Suicide Squad looks like a Scott Pilgrim spinoff to me.

Glad you got your door fixed. I wish I was as interested in how cars worked when I was little as I am now.

I might catch Ant-Man on DVD. I am not liking Joker too much either.

I actually do not remember Gemco. At all. Granted, I also never figured out Power Rangers was a Voltron rip-off or that half of it was filmed in Japan either, so who knows? Lead paint missiles sound deadly.

Arkham combat is cool, but can get tedious. I actually always thought the combat/combo systems in Arkham games were similar to old Spider-Man games. Makes sense, since Spidey's web-alterations are like his own biological gadgets and if you go with the Spidey made his web shooters story they're both self-made. I'd love to write a Batman/Spider-Man crossover story. Rags v. riches. Don't know much about Sky Raiders, but Goat Simulator looked fun when I saw the React kids play it on YouTube.

I feel like sax is underused in modern music. Granted, sometimes Kenny G-esque stuff makes me think I'm at the dentist's.

The 1989 Batmobile is making me eye the Arkham Knight season pass more closely; I may take the plunge. Classic Aston Martin looks classic and I love that racecar Batmobile.

What Disney lady you think owns the Anaheim house? Cheers!

1. His apartment is tiny but really cool. Its above the firestation on Main Street, and his sandwich press was there. Even he knew the food was expensive. Ha! 2. At night in New Orleans square Disney puts on a live action show called Fantasmic, and at the end a huge dragon emerges from the island and Mickey takes it down. 3. It was sooo good too. 4. Oh Goofy, I should have asked for a rematch. 5. I think he's ok with being in a ton of Sandler movies. I think it was on MTV Cribs he said "This is the house Adam Sandler's movies paid for"

They don't. They do crazy things like change in the little toilet room, and undercovers, and when they are in the shower they have a towel that covers the doors and cover themselves as much as possible so you know sex isn't happening. I think it did a couple of seasons ago.

Love Kingsmen. That is a good old fashion summer popcorn flick! As for that Train movie, I have no idea what it was called. All I know was that the blue train is Thomas, and when my uncle started naming off the trains I just laughed.

I think folks were burned out by the Sax in the 80s, and Kenny G's crap didn't help. There was some cool stuff mixed in the 90s and maybe early 00s by Mindi Abair and Candy Dulfer (Lily Was Here with Dave Stewart)

Wait, the Michael Keaton Batmobile is in the game?

Some sleeping lady. Apparently she's royalty or something.

I didn't recognize Sleeping Beauty's house. Whoops. lol And the Arkham Knight Facebook revealed the Season Pass DLC for August and Keaton Batmobile is in there.
