Pixl Peeps how are you doing on this warm Friday morning? I for one am glad because this weekend I’m hitting the coast and I will be taking some pictures. I’ll be trying out some of the camera features (more of the gimmick stuff) along with some ideas I saw on YouTube. It’ll be fun to give my 50mm lens something to shoot other than plants and clouds. So since the week is over we get to look back over a week that blew right buy and now its time to get started with another Quick Hits
Chris Listens To…
I’ve started getting back to listening to the radio again. I’ve been boycotting the local radio stations because their content is crap, and I don’t care for the radio personalities. I’ve started to listen to a couple of stations coming out of Hawaii because I like the morning shows. My current favorite is HammerTime on Krater96.3. I find this trio funny because they make fun of everyone (PC is out the window with this group) and around 7:30 local time they prank call someone usually telling them some bad news. Its usually something like a company is going to charge them extra for something, adding a speed bump to the front of their house, just random stuff and their family/spouse is on the joke. The music is a nice mix of old and new (mainly old) so I have that show playing in the background for a couple of hours a day.
In my quest to listen to everything in my iTunes library I discovered that my purchase of a Lilith Fair Double CD was a bad purchase. After maybe 2-3 songs I kind of liked, it was full of filler. Sorry Lilith Fair folks but it isn’t my thing. I also found more mixtapes to add to the library. They are currently sitting in a folder waiting to be uploaded and placed in the mixtape playlist.
There are a couple of albums I want to get during this week’s $5.99 sale on iTunes but I don’t know if I will get around to listening to them in the next couple of weeks or so. They are albums I want to check out but nothing I’m willing to push to the front of the line on my New Stuff list that currently lives on my iPod. Currently I just finished the physical mixtapes I bought from my local mom & pop a month ago.
Chris Watches…
Big Brother: I’m disappointed that Audrey was booted but I’m not surprised. I think she went too hard in playing her game. She went in with a sprint mentality without realizing that it is a marathon and quickly burned bridges. If she would have just kept her mouth shut and stuck with her alliance with Clay and Shelli she would have gone farther in the game while they picked off folks in the other alliance. The live feeds are ok, but when talk of production or something interesting the feeds cuts to the fish tank until it’s over.
True Detective: I’m an episode behind and things are starting to get interesting. I will probably catch the most current episode later on today. Collin Farrell is still the most interesting character on the show and I’m starting to wonder how everything is going to go down and if his character survives.
Tour de France: The tour is almost over but we’re in the mountain stages. This is by far my favorite section because this is where all the sprinters start dropping off and the strong racers go up a mountain on a bicycle. The climbs are nuts and once again the scenery is so much fun to look at.
Wrestling: Undertake made a return at the PPV Battleground. Out of the entire PPV I would say that maybe three matches were really good especially the Divas. I’m glad the Divas division is getting a push because the three wrestlers they brought up are solid athletes. The next PPV is Summer Slam and that should be a fun watch (hopefully)
Chris Takes Pictures…
This past week sunny Southern California experience some rain and naturally SoCal had no idea how to deal with it. I compared it to how East Coast folks freak out over a 3.0 Earthquake and how we don’t even want to get up off the couch for it. Anyways since rain is a rare occurrence I thought I’d try and capture some sights from it. I wanted to take actual photos of the rain falling but I didn’t get it quite right so no shots of that but I did get some cool stuff I’d like to share.
For you folks in Arizona we had a habob (dust storm) that rolled into the valley and covered it with a funky tan color. The local news thought it would be hilarious to send out a reporter to cover this while standing next to a sand dune. Same folks who sent out another reporter in a sundress to cover a rainstorm.
So this was the neighborhood. I wish I took a picture 10 minutes before where the sky was half blue half tan. Yeah I went outside and flying sand gets annoying and I’m sure it starts to hurt if I spent more than a couple of minutes outside.
Later on that night and all into the next night it rained, and it was fun to sit outside and listen to the rhythm of the falling rain *ducks from flying objects.
Anyways here are some of the sights during our little storm
Thanks for looking at my pictures!
Randoms…
So EA Sports unveiled the cover athletes for FIFA
Alex Morgan and Messi will be the cover for the US, and I think Sinclair and Messi for Canada. Its about time that EA finally included some of the Women’s National Teams in their game and you better believe I’m changing that cover to the USWNT (seriously MNT how do you give up TWO goals to Jamaica?) I think the last game I played that had women’s teams was a college basketball game on the SNES.
Earlier today while roaming around Walmart (I’m telling you their Rotisserie Chicken is really good) I saw this
I started using this app called Snupps after having it for about a month. Basically the App is kind of like Instagram except you take pictures of stuff you collect and sort them on shelves. I decided to upload pictures of 12 pairs of sneakers and I got 2.3K views which is insane. Eventually I will get around to taking pictures of the rest of my sneakers, maybe caps, and video games. If any of you have a Snupps account let me know!
Pickups!
No games this week. I still have The Order sitting on the floor waiting to be played. Heck I haven’t fired up the PS4 in a week.
Music
Some CD finds at the Best Buy $5.99/7.99 bin
A little 2Pac, Game (I was listening to his mixtape earlier this morning) and the Muse. I wasn’t a fan of the Muse until SDSU’s Student Section started using the chorus to Uprising at basketball games. I bought the single, and now I get to check out the entire album.
Randoms
Right now Ross is gold when it comes to sneakers. Yesterday I found some RGIII’s, Jordan 1 (one pair was a size too big for me) Reebok Kamikaze’s (Shawn Kemp’s shoe), but earlier in the week I found this pair for $30
This is my first pair of the re-retro’d Converse Aero Jam’s aka Grandmama’s. There are a lot of changes to the shoe like Larry Johnson’s #2 on the shield is gone, the side tabs are skinny, the Cons logo on the tongue is different, and the back tag says Aero Jam instead of Converse with the star logo. I did a lace swap with a pair of red laces to add some color to the shoe.
I bought two 32GB SD cards after seeing a deal on Slickdeals for $10 each.
They came with card pouches and they arrived in 4 days. Not bad. Now I have more cards for my camera so I don’t have to do the card to external HD shuffle as often.
Alright Pixlbit I am off to go start enjoying my Friday with some chicken and the live Big Brother feed. Have a good weekend Pixl Peeps!
That’s all for now, more later!

For some reason this was on my check out video section on YouTube. I checked it out and holy crap, props to you good people in the Marines. Its insane what goes on within the first two hours of boot camp. I thought I’d watch maybe 10 minutes but 30 minutes later and I was like “WOW.”

Nice sneakers!
I never watched most of the first season of True Detective. Seemed good though.
Your pics look marvelous! I really have to get with it during my trip back east and take some pictures.

Its crazy what goes on in that video. I watched what other military branches do and it is nowhere near as intense.
You gotta check out TD. Its a slow burn of a show but I think both seasons are good, but I'm an episode behind on this season.

I'm thinking of picking up a super wide angle lens maybe next week. i'm going to a car show with some friends. Thought I'd use it there.
Man, I couldn't stop watching that video either. Gotta be my own drill sargent to get some things done in my life.

Those lens man, that make a world of difference, but they become addictive when you start buying them. I went from a zoom lens, to getting a prime lens, and now I want another more powerful zoom lens.

I have so many lenses right now. I've got every area covered so far except for ultra-wide. Unfortunately, those lenses are much more expensive than I thought. Like 700-900 bucks. I've spent $400 on a 90mm macro lens before, but that's about my limit. My guide is, if it costs more than a gaming console, it's too much.

My current rule is if the lens cost more than the camera body I have to seriously question it. Since I'm on a beginner camera, there is a lot of questions flying

There are a couple of them out there. Its interesting to see how the different branches of the military handle their new recruits.

I watched one on the Navy SEALs back in 2012 on YouTube. I'm cocky enough to think with enough training I could handle the exercise, but the freezing cold water would be another story I think.

What the BUDS go through there is no way I could handle it. Being constantly in the cold water, with no sleep, and being pushed to do exercise. I would glady ring that bell to be a washout.

Nice captures with the water droplets, Chris. You saw my most recent macro on FB this morning. One of these days, I'll get my act together and upload my most recent stuff to my Flickr account so I can share it in my blog again.

That is a cool shot. If it rains here in overcast Southern California, I'll throw my camera into a plastic bag and try some shots like this
