On August 5, 1995, Yoshi's Island was released for the Super NES. This was the first real Yoshi game (all of those puzzle ones don't count). This game seemed to break all the rules for Mario platformers, but that's okay. After all, it wasn't a Mario game, it was a Yoshi game. Creative level design and awesome egg-throwing gameplay made the game an instant classic, so good, in fact, that it hasn't been trumped by any of its sequels.

Let's celebrate this momentous day! What is your most nostalgic moment with Yoshi in general or in a Yoshi game? Let's hear about it. Yoshi should get some love on his 20th anniversary of his best game. Dino Power!

My favorite nostalgic memories are often the ones that are somewhat hazy to me. So while I remember Super Mario World and Yoshi's Island, I'd have to say Yoshi's Story on N64 is my favorite memory. I still kind of consider Yoshi's Island a Mario game since it was called Super Mario World 2 and had Mario in it, albeit as a baby.

I was fortunate enough to find a cart of Yoshi's Island earlier this year, so I was finally able to play it in its entirety, and I can see why it's such a beloved game. The levels are so creative and make perfect use of the egg-throwing mechanic. The whole game also has an amazing charm and presentation. And the final boss! Bowserzilla!

I first came across baby Yoshi in Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga. So cute with their little baby voices.

I flip-flop every now and then and sometimes say that Super Mario World is my favorite Mario game, and sometimes it's Yoshi's Island.  Whatever the case, Yoshi's Island is definitely one of the best 2-D platformers ever made.  I have so many good memories playing this with my little brothers and my college roommate and his girlfriend (now wife).  She loved Yoshi so much that she bought her own SNES so she could play Yoshi's Island in her dorm room!  I'm really looking forward to Yoshi's Woolly World, too!  But don't be dissin' the Yoshi puzzle games!  Yoshi's Cookie rocked!

I wish I had a Yoshi as a pet.  I would ride it and kill goombas.
