Collecting PS2 games

As alot of you may or may not know im a collector of ps2 games now im very selective of what I collect and I collect rare ps1 games to, mainly im into srpgs and rpgs,im not interested in many of the other generes, but let me say ps2 games especially NIS and Atlus and Shin Megami Tensie and the more expensive games of the srpgs and rpgs, when buying ps2 games I usually try and find them at garage sales, some gamestops,Craigs list is a local online posting where I also find games and lets face it most games that people sell with the exception of gamestops, have no clue of the value of these games,

So heres an example of prices on Amazon  Devil Summoner 2 cost at gamestop if you can find a copy cost you $30 used, on Amazon it will cost you $79.99 in very good shape with original cover and manual,so you see the difference I would pay this amazon price for the simple reason 4 months from now its going to be much higher in price,

Heres another example of good buying, I paid $70 for a used copy of Tctics Ogre in excellent condition whit original case and manual and this was a year ago,its now in used accetable condition with case and manual,$108.99 and for a brand new copy unopened its $329.00 and up see very expensive and very collectable,

Final Fantasy Tactics NEW & SEALED (Sony PlayStation 1, PS1, 1998) Squaresoft

So here you can see why black label is prefered over the greatest hits version the difference is price for instance the green label is the greatest hits release and is like $15 used in acceptable condition versus the black label used original release and in acceptable condition is $40.00 so as you can see collectig can be tricky.

So now you know why I enjoy my ps2 collection not only do I have a very expensive ps2 collection, have you ever wondered why srpgs and rpgs are the main ones that the prices go up in,its because of me and you buying these generes, there is a very lucritive market of srpg and rpg gamers out there that collect on certain systems and these are the people thats buying these games which in turn is raising the price and making them rare.

So it really doesnt matter what system your collecting on but just remember that hard to find game may be pricey right now but its not going to get cheaper cause they will be double that in a year or so,so next time you have that hard to find gme in your hands buy it cause it cause like me you will regret it later.

Hunting down a good deal on a classic game always feels great. I think I remember black-label FF Tactics being more expensive, but I imagine the price went down when SE suddenly flooded the market with FFT on every platform it could!

I had a hook on a great lot for some PSX RPGs recently and I'm thinking I'll never hear back from the seller. Someone must have gotten to them first.

I'm really cheap when it comes to buying older games, so I always looks for crazy deals. This has resulted in me not having many of the SNES and PSX RPGs that I'd like to own, because of the resale values these days.

Theres alot of people these days that buy cheap and sell high I know a few people who do that and make alot of money doing it,and its going to get worse, one thing i have learned if you lay your hands on a classic whatever platform always buy it,cause you will not get a second chance,i mean i had Devil summoner 1 & 2 and i hate myself for selling them I will

I have Devil Summoner 1(very cool game), could have got the collectors edition Devil Summoner 2 in the big box with a plush Jack Frost for $30, but I was dead broke at the time.Seen on ebay since for $150 or more. Still kickin myself over that one. Got a copy of Grandia 2 in realy good shape at gamestop for $8, and just recently Digital Devil Saga for $13. It had been $35 for the longest but the store was closing so they were getting rid of stuff. Don't plan to resell these, got them cause I wanted them.

I remember how sky high the price for FFVII went after the release of the Advent Children film. All of a sudden it was 100 dollars at Vintage Stock. Much lower now,but they milked it for all it was worth! You have a very impressive collection. Is that one shot of the massive shelf of games yours? Wow.....all I can say if it is. That is an amazing picture.

Yeah, I hate scalpers driving up prices on good games. I can't wait for emulators to catch up to the Playstation 2 and XBox technology.

Also try Flea Market/Swap Meets. Good spots for folks who just want to move their items, and stay away from the Video Game Dealers there. I keep seeing Green Label FF VII hit $80 at their booths along with $20 SMB/Duck Hunt carts. A lot of these guys tend to also hit Target Clearance Endcaps, and then try to flip at full retail.

I usually just buy games I want to play and I rarely get rid of anything.

Some "rare" games do drop in price.  Many of those games aren't rare at all.  They might be hard to find or maybe people don't get rid of them, but that's not rare.  You can actually get Devil Summoner 1 & 2 for $20 at GameStop.  You just had to be lucky enough to find one there.  It can be a problem if one of the GS employees is a collector too.  At one of my local GS, I saw a few copies of Atlus rpgs that were under $30.  People like to shit on GS, but they have nice deals if you know how to shop there.

well Rare may have been a poor choice of words most gamestops dont buy or sell ps2 titles although i do have one out of the 15 thats near me that does and I ck daily for Devil Summoner 1 or 2 and theres none at any gamestop in Texas but im hoping some poor sap that knows nothing about games will trade it in,and for the record i like gamestop but then again i kniw how to shop at them.

Every GS in my town (5 of them) still buy & sell PS2 games.  It surprises me that games like Devil Summoner, Digital Devil Saga, Nocturne, and Persona are still $30 or less.  They're great games and are really worth more than the asking price.

Yes thats why I think your right with Gamestop employees why wouldnt they grab up these hard to find games then turn a profit on amazon, but in my opinion they should not be allowed to do that after all there employees they could do that with any high priced game or hard to find, game and its not fare to us the consumer when we just want the game not a profit.

Actually, they're not allowed to do it, but some do.  One of my friends was fired from GS for selling off an unique item given to him by a Nintendo rep.  He had it over a year and forgot where he got it.  He put it up on Ebay, Nintendo finds out, contacts GS and my bub is out of a job.  I've heard stories of other employees getting fired from selling games, strategy guides, and other stuff on Ebay too.

If I had the money, I would buy 2 copies. The first one is for me to play and the second copy will be left unopened in w/c it will be the real thing for my collection. Well, that is for my opinion I will do if I'm really serious on collecting games.

I used to keep everything but due to cash flow problems I'm selling a collection of over 700 games. I just listed 50 PS2 games on Amazon.ca today.

I'm looking for places to buy games cheaply and sell because it may be the only income I have for a while. EB isn't good anymore and any used game dealers already have the price pegged so there's no margin in buying from them.

you should post some on here im sure alot of us may be interested.

I would except that I'm trying to make money off them. Shipping cost to the States is prohibitive and shipping to Canada is a crapshoot. I've been charged 10 bucks in some cases to ship an N64 cartridge (no case) or a double PS1 case.

I try to keep my prices within reason but if I can't make a profit there's no point in selling them.

Here's the link to my page. I'm almost finished listing my PS2 collection

Bummer that you have to sell that stuff, you have a fantastic selection of games listed for sale on your Amazon page.

Oh and if you are looking at the list in some cases Amazon has forced me to list Black label games under a picture of a Greatest Hits version. That's why I always specify in the condition comments.

leeradical42

03/21/2013 at 01:56 PM

I cant look cause i know i will want and i really cant afford any more games well unless devil summoner 1 and 2 or rule of rose is on that list.

I've only played a fraction of the SMT games, haven't touched the ones on the PS2 yet, PS2 had a glorious legacy that rivals even the SNES.

Wow, that's a lot of PS2 games you got there! I know what you mean about getting the original black label games vs. the "greatest hits" version. I Prefer the black label if I can get it.

Speaking of classic game prices, Super Mario Sunshine new is over one-hundred bucks! Good thing it's like twenty used.

I can kick myself over some of the games I left behind over the years (all those PS1 games Yell).  But, I never set out to buy games that I personally didn't want in order to sell them later on.  That said, I'm still careful about the games that I buy just in case I ever need to sell them.  It's quite frightening to think about what some of our games are worth (even complete used games in great condition are worth a ton) and how demand for them keeps rising.  Within my own collection, I think it's my GBA collection that's worth the most.  I have over 80 games all in their boxes, including ones I can set my own price for like Car Battler Joe.

That said, I wish my local FYE hadn't done away with their PS2 clearance section (where they sent those games, I have no idea).  I found so many treasures lurking in there (they had so many KOEI and .hack games that are expensive now) and I'll never see anything like it again.

Yes I understand all the ps2 and ps1 games i had i use to have Tomba and although i never carrd for it i saw what its going for on amazon and i could kick myself lol,oh and for the record i only buy games i want not to sell, but i had so many like ufo defense force look how much thats going for its crazy hell im crazy for ever trading them especially since i think i got $1 for it in yrade years ago but the one i regret the most is Devil summoner 1 and 2  and i know everyone on heres thinking quit whinning about thoughsto games but i just cant let it go grrrrrrrr Sealed

From what I read over at Siliconera, Devil Summoner 1 & 2 for the PS2 (minus the plushie for 2) are being reprinted.  I think they are going to cost $30 each whenever Atlus gets around to distributing them.  So, keep an eye open for them if you want to own them again.

That said, I also remember selling games for a pittance that later jumped in price.  Kirby and the Amazing Mirror, Secret of Mana, Breath of Fire II, Diablo for the PS1; I actually kept a record of the games I sold over the years just as a reminder of how stupid I was and how to not do it again in the future.  Some of those games I was lucky to reacquire for little money (Metroid Prime 2), but some continue to evade my grasp at the moment.

leeradical42

03/22/2013 at 10:28 PM

As much as I like the idea of a reprint I think I still would rather have the old ones,do you think the reprints will bring the value down on the originals or will it be like books and still retain its value.

Temperance

03/23/2013 at 10:49 AM

The reprints are going to bring down the value of the originals, just like the Etrian Odyssey, Digital Devil Sage, etc. reprints did.  When Atlus reprints a game they are indistinguishable from the originals, so you would be safe buying from the new supply.

By the way, the new supply of Devil Summoner 1 has begun appearing on Amazon.  I suppose it's only a matter of time now before the second game comes back.

leeradical42

03/23/2013 at 11:55 AM

So whats the price on the reprints are they still high or more resonable.

Temperance

03/25/2013 at 01:10 PM

The reprints should be $30 each, although I noticed some places like CD Universe charging as low as $20 for them.  They are both backordered on their site, though.

leeradical42

03/25/2013 at 02:43 PM

Well my wifes going to get both for me and if they dont have any reprints then i will just buy at full price but either way im getting them lol.

Temperance

03/25/2013 at 05:00 PM

At least on CD Universe you can place the order and they will keep it open for a month as they look for a copy (I've done this a few times to varying success).  Still, there are $30 reprints of the first game on Amazon for you, so you can get that for a big discount over the original.   I'm just hoping that the second game shows up soon on Amazon, but I have bad feeling that it came and went already (the Siliconera story was from March 7th, which is not good).

leeradical42

03/25/2013 at 06:12 PM

Devil summoner two Is on Amazon. Both are i saw them  and thanks for sharing that info now after crying about them for two years i can add them to my atlus collection now i need the cases for digital devil saga 1 & 2 all i have is the disc and you know i cant stand.the game without the original case and manual.

Temperance

03/26/2013 at 12:33 PM

Wow, look at that!  When I checked Amazon yesterday, Devil Summoner 2 was still $100.  They must have restocked after I looked the game up.  That said, I suppose you could just drop the $40 (total) for reprints of Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2 to get them complete.  Actually, that might be the best thing to do as you'll have sealed copies for your collection and two loose copies to play.  I'm actually looking to do that myself for several games I don't want to open (mostly NISA games).

PS2 was the system that just kept giving, man! I still go back to my PS2 to this day. My 360 must be so jealous. Hopefully I won't have to deal with a console's attempted murder of another console. lol.

I still want to pick up Fatal Frame 1, Nocturne, and Devil Summoner 1 at some point.

leeradical42

03/22/2013 at 10:22 PM

I have said it before and I will say it again the ps2 is the best system period and yes I know alot of you would disagree but I will remain a ps2 collector till I die then I will pass it down to my son, but the ps1 is there to but no system to date has a library like the ps2.

03/22/2013 at 10:29 PM

I really don't like Sony, but I agree the PS2 has the best collection of games. Cool
