Two 3DS Games Off Mount Backlog

Good morning Pixlpeeps! I am not feeling Monday right now. I’m tired, cranky, and hoping I can go back to bed soon. Its not going to happen but there’s always room for hope. The weekend is gone but it did bring some good stuff. For starters I took down two games from Mount Backlog. Both games are on the 3DS, and all of a sudden I’ve been on a 3DS kick. I’ve been looking through my games trying to find ones that I would be in the mood for.

I believe the last time I talked about Pokemon Omega Ruby I just finished getting my fourth for fifth badge, and I was trying to figure out a way to get the remaining badges. Well thanks to YouTube, and Google for some hints to push me in the right direction I finished up the remaining badges as well all the end stuff. Overall I liked the game because there wasn’t much to it other than build up your team and beat the crap out of the other teams. I think when I finished the game each Pokemon in my six member team was at least at level 70, which made the final battles a bit easier.

I wish I could tell you how great the audio is in the game, but I had the volume on mute for maybe 90% of the game. This was the perfect game for me to play while listening to Podcasts and music. Graphically the game was nice. It looked a lot like the previous Pokemon games I played  (X&Y) and the controls were easy to use. After not playing the game for a couple of months, I was able to pick it up without any problems. After finishing this game I’m tempted to play the Alpha Sapphire game for the “other story.” Since this is my first Pokemon game that I actually finished I’ll give it an A.

The next 3DS game I finished up is this game

Unlike Pokemon, this game I really didn’t enjoy. It was slow, I felt the cars didn’t handle well, and the gimmick of being able to place your face in the game was fun at first, it was the only unique thing to this MarioKart clone. The game actually had a bit of MarioKart and F-Zero (the SNES game) where you have the usual power-ups from a MK game but also had sections where if you drove over them it would power up your turbo. The turbo was useful but each burst was far too short. I found most of the power-ups to be decent at best, and the layout of having a group of races per championship to be the usual items seen in other racers.

I think if I had not played MarioKart on the 3DS before this game, I would have enjoyed it much more. I give Face Racers a C

In other games I played this weekend

NCAA Football 14 – PS3: I am officially 1-3 versus Ohio State in my Old Dominion Franchise. When the two teams first met, the Monarchs won a close game in the National Title Game. Two seasons later I schedule them for a home game where they promptly beat ODU by three touchdowns, breaking the undefeated streak, and home winning streak. The two teams met again in the National Title game and this time I only lost by two touchdowns. In my current season I had a return trip to Columbus where the Monarchs were leading by a touchdown with a minute left before surrendering 10 points, in a stunning come from behind win. Blah. ODU currently sits at 4th in the Top 25 and I don’t think they will make the National Title game this season.

Simpsons Tapped Out – iPad: I’m still in the middle of the Monorail storyline and recycling trash, metal, and plastic to convert into blueprints. I hit the Act One Bonus and unlocked this guy

Act Two started I think yesterday and there is another character and building to be unlocked.

On Friday I read that the game WWE Super Card Season 2 was released so I decided to give it a try and I AM HOOKED! Super Card is a card game where you have a team of six cards (4 Superstars, and 2 Divas) and you compete against other teams cards. The cards are rated on Power, Toughness, Speed, and Charisma. Each category can be increased with either temporary booster cards, or using lower rated cards as Training. You can earn cards and boosts by playing Exhibition Mode where you “take on” other users (its just the computer using other players cards) At the end of a 3 match fight, you get to choose two cards if you won, and a single card if you lost. There is one Rare/Super Rare card per board and the board doesn’t reset until you find that card.

This is my current starting lineup. From Left its Super Rare Damien Sandow, Super Rare Dolph Ziggler, Super Rare The Miz, Super Rare Shaemus, Super Rare Naomi, and Rare Paige. Naomi and Paige are Pro cards, which means I combined two of the same cards.

When you face another team there is an animation where the cards fight each other. I usually don’t watch and just tap on the screen to get to the next match. Each fight maybe lasts 3 minutes at most. Since Friday I think I’ve played 500 matches.

There is another game mode called King of the Ring where you actually face other users. You complete a lineup of 3 tag teams (2 Superstars 1 Divas) and 3 solo Superstars and 1 Diva card. You go through 40+ qualifying matches, and then go into tournament brackets for the top 8 players.

This is an older picture but I am currently sitting at 38-1 heading into 39-1. I check the team maybe once every other hour, replenish the energy for my team, and then go about my day.

I’d like to stick with this game for a while because I do enjoy it, there is no money being used, and with some patience I can accumulate a solid lineup of cards.

I think I got an email from GameStop and saw that these are being sold through Think Geek

At first I really liked the idea of having the old school feel of these controllers while playing these games, but after reading the reviews it seems that they are poorly made. I do miss the 6 buttons Sega Genesis Controller. Any of you guys/gals/little green men in outer space have these controllers? I’d like to have my Mini Laptop be home to a Genesis/SNES/NES emulators. I can hook it up to any TV with an HDMI, and its easier to play than digging through my classic plastic and setting up the consoles (I no longer own any tube TVs.)

Alright Pixlpeeps I am off. Have a good week!

That’s all for now, more later!

I honestly want to play old games with new controllers. But I didn't think about the tube TV thing. Was considering like a Retron 5. Wonder if those have HD hookups.

Yeah it hit me awhile back when I was trying to play Duck Hunt on my TV and nothing would happen. Thanks to Google I learned that it didn't work on new TVs. I think the Retron 5 is good to go with an HDMI but I don't know if the light gun will work.

Ah Majesco, kings of cheapo games. They're based in New Jersey I learned. I should speak nicer of them and ask for a job.

Haha I didn't even notice that they made that game. I think I might have played some decent games from them.

I'm sure there are some good ones. If you look at the list though, you might start saying they're the kings of shovelware. . . Did I say that? Don't read that Majesco HR.

All I saw was that you were praising the solid catalog of Majesco Tongue Out

Nice, I still haven't beaten Omega Ruby yet, which is weird because I'm a huge Pokemon fan. There's nothing wrong with it, I just put it down for some reason. Need to get back into it, but congrats on finishing it!

I've been knocking out games from my backlog too, I recently finished MGS3 and Peace Walker. I also beat Metroid and Super Metroid for the first time too. Currently playing Metroid 2 on 3DS and I'm almost done with it.

Not sure which game from my backlog I'll tackle next, but so far I haven't bought a new game this year except Xenoblade 3D. I guess I'm doing good so far.

Thanks! I put it down for a bit too, before picking it up a couple of weeks ago.

I never played MGS3 on the PS2. I think I bought it in a bundle for the Vita but haven't given it a shot. Congrats on knocking out those games from your backlog, and props for not buying games before beating the ones you already own. I'm slowly getting out of the buying a bunch of games but not finishing any of them mindset.
