From: Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories
Remixed by: DrumUltima, MomUltima
Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories may have started Square Enix’s terrible habit of recycling the first game’s locations again and again but at least the soundtrack was still by Yoko Shimomura. The main remixer here, DrumUltima, has a thing for percussion and lives up to his name by making excellent use of that predilection here. Things start off with a rolling bass drum. You’ll also hear a rock kit, various cymbals, and timpani among other more exotic sounds. Synth textures mix with piano and strings to set the stage for the main attraction: violin. In this case it’s the remixer’s mom, aptly going by MomUltima here, who happens to play professionally, and she does an excellent job. Even at 5’30” this remix doesn’t overstay its welcome but manages to remain interesting throughout. It ends as it began, with arpeggios and rolling bass drum.
