Grandia II Anniversary 11 hours in.

Since backing off on Fantasy Life I've managed to put 11 hours into Grandia II on Steam. I have 10 of 36 achievements or whatever the heck they're called and I'm still enjoying the game. Two things that are pissing me off are the crappy looking SD cutscenes and the lack of a map for the dungeons.

You'd think out of all the assets they could update the cutscenes would be the easiest but nooooooo. You go from a decent looking game to a blurry SD cutscene that really pulls you out of the experience.

The map I shouldn't really bitch about because it wasn't ever there but it is still frikkin' annoying. On top of it not being there progression to the next area is frequently well hidden and involves clearing out all the enemies so you can explore carefully to find the exit.

All in all I still love this game particulary the battle system that makes you think and the fact that the game doesn't handhold you instead making you seek out knowledge on how to level up your attacks and magic. You can play the game for hours without spending any of your skill and magic points and not figure out why you keep dying.

I recently listened to a podcast about music from the Grandia series. Good stuff!

I should put headphones on and give it a proper listen. Right now it's coming out through a laptop speaker at low volume.

yeah i don't really understand the details, but from what I understand, the pre-rendered cut scenes take more to "fix".  They did it for FFX and X-2 for the re-release and the shit looks great, but mostly I think it's kind of a bitch.

I'm really excited to play this game, but I've just got a couple other things in the way right now.

Right now I'm chasing flying eyeballs through a fissure. Lotta caves in this game.
