you're making me insanely envious!!!! I really should get back into legos and buy a set for myself to build. It would probably really relax me.

Happy Tuesday Pixlpeeps! Since today is the big release day I’m assuming most of you folks are roaming around the Destiny Universe (not my cup of tea), but I hope you enjoy your game. I didn’t play much this past week, other than maybe a couple of word searches and crossword puzzles on the 3DS. I did however build my Millennium Falcon and I thought I’d do a comparison between the 2015 set (75105) and the 2004 set (4504). If you’re not interested no hard feelings, I’ll add some video game content next week.
Here are a couple of shots I took during assembly. I spent maybe two hours over two days building this set
First impressions about the instructions was that it wasn’t as simplified as the older set. A couple of times I missed adding one or two bricks/plates to the build. At times the instructions became one of those games where there are two images that look exactly the same but one of them is missing a couple of things.
Here is the 2004 set (pardon this set, it is a little dusty)
I changed the gun on top because I felt this part of the build was flimsy.
And here is the 2015 set
The 2015 set sit a bit higher
Here is the engine room of the 2004 set
I like the detail of this set. There are more visually interesting sections
This is the 2015 set. The engine room is more compact and there are more knick-knacks like boxes and random pipes.
In the front portion of the ship has also changed a bit. In the 2004 set the furniture is smaller and the area is cozier than the 2015 version.
The 2015 version has more detail, especially with the consoles and the seats. The one thing I wish it had included the grate flooring like the 2004 set.
On top of the Millennium Falcon is a section where the gunners sit. In the 2004 set the bottom gun is missing and there is only room for one minifigure
For the 2015 set the bottom gun was added as well as a slide out piece where you can sit two minifigures back to back.
The front section where the two points stick out are also different.
On the 2004 model they are thinner and feel more solid
For the 2015 model Lego shoehorned their silly spring-loaded block that shoots a red missile
To fire the little red missile inside of the pointy section there is a whole on top where you push down. All the big Star Wars sets have this feature. I guess kids want sets that fire projectiles.
Now there are a couple of features that make each set unique. In the 2015 set Lego included the smuggler’s hidden compartment in the floor
The dark gray panel lifts up
On the 2004 set however there are a lot of little additions that have gone missing in the 2015 set
There is a lot of detail on the side panel of the Falcon
The cool hidden feature is that if you pull on the left side (while facing the front of the ship) a walkway appears
When you lift up on the right side (again while facing the front of the ship) a passageway for an escape pod is visible
And finally when you look between the two front pointy things there is a compartment with a hidden box
I didn’t buy the 2011 version of the Millennium Falcon but looking at some pictures the interiors look like a combination of both these two sets. I am glad I purchased this set because this is a nice set. I could do without the shooting projectiles but that’s just a minor problem.
Alright Pixlpeeps thanks for taking the time to check out this entry. Have a good week.
That’s all for now, more later!
-Chris
