Can't let you do that Starfox!
Hey Pixlbit, how's it going? I'm not sure if any of you heard or not, but Starfox Zero has been delayed till Q1 2016.
Shigeru Miyamoto made a statement about it on Facebook. If you don't want to click on the link, the abridged version is that the game is completed. The thing is he feels that they could use/need more time to polish it some more and add a bit to discovering stuff with the dual screen feature.
Here's what I think: He must of seen the complaints people where having with the game. Some say that the game feels too barren. Some say it really doesn't feel like Starfox. And the most popular one is that the graphics aren't good. This is coming from people who have tried it at events and game conventions. While I know that it's ultimately up to the player (i.e. you) to decide for themselves about how they feel about the game, Miyamoto and Nintendo probably did take note or they felt that they could use more time to polish it a bit.
While I'm in favor of a game getting delayed so that we get a better product in return, as I have mentioned it for Zelda Wii U, I found a problem and I'm sure many of you have as well. Nintendo may just have lost/delayed what was possibly their biggest and probably most important holiday title. Now that Starfox Zero is out of the question, let's look at what other Wii U games you have as an alternative for the holiday season. You have Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival, which is a Mario Party game that is useless if you don't have the amiibo figures. That and fans have been pretty vocal on how they feel about it. There's Xenoblade Chronicles X which comes out in December. And lastly, there's Mario Tennis which still has a tentative holiday release date. Are any of these games system sellers? If you don't have the amiibo figures, then the game is useless. Unless Nintendo plans to keep them stocked but I have better chances of winning the lottery than Nintendo keeping them constantly stocked. XCX as good as it looks (and I'm really hyped for it), is no doubt a niche game. And Mario Tennis. While the Mario Sport Games are fun, I highly doubt see people buying a Wii U to play Mario Tennis.
I don't know if Starfox would have been a system seller, I know it was in the past, but anything could of happened here if it never got delayed. Maybe this has something to do with Nintendo of Japan's new president. Or the comments people have made about it. We may never know.
There's this saying Miyamoto has: "A delayed game is eventually good, a rushed game is forever bad." That comment kinda doesn't hold ground anymore. DNF proved that and other games as well. I'm in favor of a delayed game so we don't get a glitchtastic bugfest, or a better game in the end that feels complete. This game has been in development for almost 10 years and has shifted different consoles. Maybe we'll get a Nintendo Direct soon, like new footage or new announcements. I hope the wait is worth it.
So, what do you think of Starfox Zero's delay? Good? Bad? Both? None? Or maybe I'm just overthinking? Thanks for reading and later.
