So No Las Vegas For Chris

Well Happy Tuesday Pixlpeeps. I’m starting to like this Tuesday blog day even though it makes more sense to write my random posts on Monday and Friday. We’ll call it being lazy for now. So how are you good people? Well I am ok but it would have been much better if I went through with my original plans.

On Friday I was supposed to leave my little piece of Southern California for a connecting flight to Phoenix and then on to Las Vegas. Well it turns out that my flight wasn’t meant to be. The airplane I was supposed to be on was having mechanical issues (this is also something you never want to hear especially about a flying tube a couple of thousand feet about the ground). Since this situation was going to make me miss my connecting flight my only options were to spend the night in Phoenix, or take a van to Los Angeles for a later flight. Both options had me losing my hotel reservation so either way I was screwed.

The employee at the counter was extremely nice and made sure I put in a claim for a refund on my flight and was willing to find me a ride back home (I already had a ride but I appreciated the effort). The hotel on the other hand was a pain. The hotel told me that since I used a 3rd party I would have to call Priceline. It was a pain just getting a hold of Priceline but when I finally got a hold of them they said they couldn’t do anything about it until the next day and to call them at 8am Eastern (I am in Pacific Time). When I called around 7am Pacific I was then told by the Priceline folks that I needed to call them at 8am Pacific because the hotel (which is in the same time zone as me) was not open. An hour later everything was resolved but I didn’t get a full refund. Instead I got 50% of the room price but I lost on the Vegas Room Tax, which is $50 a day. Well it’s better than what I thought I was going to get so all is good. Hopefully I get my airfare refunded as well.

The rest of the weekend was spent locally but at least I got some awesome pork belly and mochi ice cream from Whole Foods. I’m anti actually buying groceries from there but damn their pork products are really good. Yup this was my weekend instead of going nuts at buffets and playing Bingo.

Lego Dimensions

Over the past couple of days I’ve been on the fence about picking up this game. Some days I question if I really want to jump into another game that needs little figures to play, making it the ultimate in micro transaction games while hiding under the veil of being a toy; And other days I want to have it in the library because it is a Lego product and I like the figures associated with the game. Yesterday after watching some game play video I was excited again to give this a go, but then the little question started to pop up, why am I buying this game? I have Lego Jurassic World sitting and I haven’t played it since the week I bought it. Heck I haven’t even fired up the PS4 in almost 3 weeks. What is driving me to purchase this game is the fact I can get the special booster packs with fun minifigures. As of today I have decided to not pick up the game but rather buy the booster packs because they are Lego. Most likely I will wait for a price drop on the actual console while collecting the sets I want. Sorry folks I don’t watch Dr. Who so I’m not caught up in that bandwagon that everyone seems to be in (it reminds me of when everyone hated on the US Office because it wasn’t as good as the English Office)

In games that I am actually playing

I bought World Search + on the iPad for my trip because I was enjoying the word search feature on the 3DS game Crosswords Plus but I didn’t want to stare at a smaller screen with a stylus. After playing through a couple of the extreme puzzles I paid the $2.99 for the full add-free version.

I played through maybe 10-15 of the Tiny puzzles. These are really easy and I was just going through the puzzles to see how fast I could complete them. I finished the Tiny puzzles and I have since moved on to the Easy puzzles. In all there are Tiny, Easy, Medium, Hard, and Extreme. The puzzles are not hard, but I figured I’d go through all the levels in order.

In Marvel Future Fight I unlocked a bunch of new characters through their daily freebies

I think I play this game more to unlock freebies and maybe throw in a level or two.

WWE Super Card had their Ring Domination event I got my first sweep against an opponent

I don’t play this game as much as before, but I do fire it up once or twice a day to get a couple of exhibition matches in.

Asphalt 7 is a game I played on my old iPad and Nexus 7. I started it up again and I enjoy this game much more than Asphalt 8. I might even complete the game. We shall see.

For Mortal Kombat X I completed the most recent event of unlocking Kold War Sonya Blade

In Simpsons Tapped Out I’ve been doing a bit of redecorating and I’m currently trying to recreate the Las Vegas Strip

iOS Stuff

Friday was the big day to update to iOS 9 and for the first hour I was having problems upgrading

Eventually I got the new iOS to update and I don’t know how to get that little side panel to pop up. Other than that I see a couple of new things. While browsing the AppStore I spotted this

Why? Just why?

This was funny especially after it blew up my NFL Pick’em.

Alright Pixlbit, I am off, have a good week!

That’s all for now, more later!

-Chris

That really sucks about Vegas.

So are those apps like papparazzi updates?

I saw that NFL meme. I wish every team were competitive. Would make things more insteresting. Then again, maybe it would just make certain teams less funny. Laughing

It does suck, but at least I got most of money back. I ended up eating one night at a hotel and the two days of hotel tax which is around $250. Sucks but what can you do.

I know the Kim K app is a game, and I have no idea what the other ones are. Its probably a bit of hey look at me, with a mix of yeah you really want to look at me.

You would think all teams would be competitive considering the salary cap and drafting from the same pool of players, but certain teams love to make the wrong choices in the front office and in the draft room. The Raiders seem to be on the right track, while Cleveland is well Cleveland.

Honestly, I think the whole free agency thing is part of the problem, as I've heard some convincing arguments lately that traded players suffer from a lack of consistency/having to learn a new system. Well, it's a part of the problem early on anyway. But hey, James Jones seemingly understands the Packers system, so I'm happy.

I can see that with traded players especially since when players are traded usual bulletpoints about the trades are usually "played in a similar scheme in college/former team" are highlighted. I think teams with good leadership will find players who can fit into their system.

I'm sorry you didn't get to go to Vegas.  That sucks.  Maybe next time...

Lego Dimensions looks awesome but I am totally turned off by the toy thing.  It seems so awesome with all those worlds, but you can't play it normally?  Kind of blows.  I don't know, I don't really like Lego games anyway, which sucks because i do like the licenses they get.

Thanks and I might go later on in the year. I really want to check out the Lego Store on the strip.

Its interesting concept with the different licenses with Lego Dimensions but I wish the sets were cheaper. I guess they are compariable to Disney Infinity but the initial set being $100 is a little too much for me. Currently I'm still sitting at just buying some of the figures first before jumping into the game.

I've been recently tempted to just grab a flight to Vegas to play at the Pinball Hall of Fame. I've heard flights there can be pretty cheap.

Middle of the week rooms and flights are super cheap. Last weekend was crazy because there was the I Heart Radio Music Festival, and Mr. Olympia going on so the prices went up.

Bummer about your weekend, Chris.

It is but I'm glad the airline didn't rush fixing the airplane. The good thing is that I got most of my money (I'm losing maybe $250, which really sucks, but originally I thought I was going to lose all my cash)

Crappy about Vegas Chris. I got on iOS 9 during the beta and now I'm at 9.1. I understand that going back to the released version could pooch all my stuff so I'm staying on 9.1.

It is but what can you do. I've always been hesitant about trying the beta's. How are you liking 9.1? I haven't really played with everything iOS9 has to offer, but I have noticed that the battery life is a bit longer. The new font doesn't mean much to me and I debating on starting a subscription to a larger iCloud. $1 a month doesn't sound too bad even though I already have other cloud storing services.

The battery life does seem better. I like the swipe in from right to open a second app but not all the apps are available. I haven't really noticed a lot of other stuff. I don't use the iCloud piece.

I used a little bit of that right screen swipe on the iPad, I don't think its on the phone but I haven't tried. I only use iCloud to synce contacts, notes, and calendar. The free 5GB is more than enough space for that.

Sorry you didn't go to Vegas.

I hope to get to review LEGO Dimensions but I'm concerned because I haven't heard from them yet.  There is one good reason to play it, though, and that's LEGO Portal.

I just reviewed a really fun iPad game.  Lara Croft GO.

Thanks. I guess it wasn't meant to be this time, but hopefully I'll get out there later on in the year. The Lego Store is calling.

I stayed away from Lara Croft Go because it looked similar to the Hitman game which just wasn't for me, but I'll check out your review.

Hey dude, I know I'm late to the blog, but just wanted say I'm sorry that things didn't work out with Vegas.  And the folks at Priceline are a bunch of fat heads.

I've been getting back into word searches lately. I'll have to check out Word Search+ sometime.  Hey do you play Word Feud? It's basically Scrabble.  I've been playing it for at least 3 years straight.
