Good morning Pixlbit Nation! It is a nice Friday morning here in my little section Southern California. Currently I have the WWE Network playing because my Grandfather really loves wrestling and he gets more use out of my subscription than I do. If you ever watch older Pay Per Views its like Bizarro World especially if you watch the current stuff but only started watching again for a year. Currently he’s watching 2013 Backlash and everything is different. I know you folks aren’t here for the wrestling talk (you should be) but anyways let’s get started with this edition of Quick Hits with Chris!

Chris Watches…

This is my new favorite show. I caught the encore showing after SHIELD and I really dig the storyline. Think a modern version of The Fugitive with some flashbacks and some interesting characters. After the first episode you have theories on who did the bombing. I have a couple of theories and we shall see how close I am during the season finale.

Agents of SHIELD: I’m happy this show is back and I like the improvements. This season is going to be really good, and I wonder how it will fit in with the next Marvel flick.

I’ve been watching these Westerns the past couple of days and the majority of things that go on in these shows wouldn’t be used today.

Gunsmoke: There was an episode where this father wanted his three adult sons to have wives sent them into town to find some. The sons decided to kidnap four women from the Saloon and bring them back to their farm. The episode shows the sons trying to romance the women, and they all fall for the sons. The fourth woman was for their pa, but she wasn’t having any of it, and the father agreed. The end of the episode was when the three women decided to stay on the farm to live with the sons.

Bonanza: First off how cool is their intro? Anyways every episode the Cartwright’s always get into some trouble despite being the nicest people on the planet. In some episodes their cook is a stereotyped Asian guy who has like one or two lines with a bad accent.

If I ever visit Lake Tahoe I am going full tourist mode and visiting everything Bonanza related.

Chris Listens To…

I’m thinking about slimming down my record collection. I’m going to keep the stuff I really want and the other stuff I’m on the fence about I’ll donate to charity. I like having a decent size collection but if there is stuff I don’t care about, why keep it?

I’m also looking for a decent USB Turntable to replace my low-end turntable. I spotted this one at Barnes and Noble and I like it. I’ll wait a bit before I buy it but this looks like something that I would get a lot of use out of especially getting back to ripping my records.

As for the iPod, I’m still behind on podcasts but I am listening to many of my new CDs. This weekend I’m going to be headed out of town, which means I might pick up some new stuff.

Chris Takes Pictures…

So there was something cool happening last weekend with the moon and a couple of folks around my street were out watching. I mentioned on Twitter that one neighbor wasn’t impressed which is mind blowing considering the eclipse/red moon won’t happen again until 2033 or so. A couple of hundred years ago you know folks would have freaked out about it, and now folks aren’t impressed. Shut up and enjoy the freaking show! Anyways I took a couple of pictures and I wanted to share them with you folks

I had a brain fart and was looking at the wrong section of the sky, and by chance I turned around and saw the moon. I went across the street from my house to the little park/overflow basin and snapped this picture

For the next hour and a half I would snap pictures every couple of minutes. During this time I used my 200mm zoom lens and the next picture I snapped the moon was almost completely red

The funny thing was that it really wasn’t red to the naked eye but through the camera you could see it

I was having problems getting a clear shot later on at night so I switched to my 50mm lens and snapped this picture

This final picture I posted on Instagram. I like how it came out

Thanks for looking at my pictures!

Lego Unboxings…

The past weekend was a lot of little plastic bricks with the release of Lego Dimensions and another set I picked up.

Saturday Night while roaming around Toys R Us I mentioned to my cousin that I wanted a Lego set but it was too expensive to pickup at $130. On the way out my cousin spotted the clearance table and we went to look through the random stuff and sure enough there were three boxes of the set I wanted for $65.90. They were sealed but it looked like something heavy fell on the top of the boxes because they were a bit crushed.

I only save the big Star Wars boxes so this wasn’t a big deal for me

The parts looked fine when I opened the box

All the part bags looked fine and the instruction booklet was in perfect condition

That is a thick instruction book!

I spent the next morning assembling this set while channel surfing through football, and other random Sunday entertainment. The only thing I really liked about this set is the Batmobile. I felt everything else in the box could have been separated into individual sets because there really isn’t much to them. Combine them with other Joker sets and there is a little more substance to them.

The first section to this Jokerland playset is an attraction where riders sit in seats and go up a pole and then get dropped

Since Poison Ivy took it over there is a Little Shop of Horrors monster at the top

The second attraction is Harley Quinn’s Wheels of Fire

Penguin’s Deadly Duckies

Joker’s Funhouse

A random cannon with a penguin holding dynamite and a clown robot

And here is my favorite

This is my favorite Batmobile set but I will probably swap out the gray parts with black parts, and remove the missle launchers inside the turbine in the front.

The group shot of the characters with the Batmobile.

Ok so on Sunday I decided to pick up the Lego Dimensions Starter Pack because I had the pre-order at Target, and I knew it was a game I did want to play. When I hit my Target the store didn’t have any PS4 copies on the floor, so the employee went to the back and grabbed a couple to place on the shelf.

Here is the Starter Set and inside the set is the actual box for the Lego set that sits on top of the base

It came with instructions to assemble the base. The game itself had digital instructions so you can build the base while playing the game. Since the game had a patch that took 30 minutes to install I used the physical instructions to assemble it

This is the assembled base for the game. There are three panels on each side for figures and vehicles and one main panel in the middle.

And here are the characters included in the Starter Set

I also bought two Level Packs for the game

The Simpsons

And Portal 2

And here is what the base looks like with the figures

In other pickups I had another package delivered. Apparently I still had a couple of games on my list that I never received. These were shipped from I think Brooklyn New York

I now have a PS2 copy of Proving Ground to finish off my Playstation Tony Hawk collection. I was happy until I realized that there was a new Tony Hawk game for PS4. I’ll wait a bit on that game. As for my PS2 order I think this is all the PS2 games I ordered. Not a bad group of games for $5.

Alright Pixlpeeps I am off. Have a good weekend!

That’s all for now, more later!

-Chris

For my song of the week I thought I’d share one of my favorites that is being noticed again because Childish Gambino (Troy from Community) covered it and that is Tamia’s So Into You. I bought the CD Single from either Warehouse Music, or Sam Goody (Goody Got It). I was in college and there was a lot of really good R&B being made around this time and this was one of the CDs I would have in binder when I worked the late shift at the front desk of my dorm.

I have that turntable. I'm a B&N member, so I was sent some coupons for 20% off. That's when I got it. That model got some decent reviews online. I set it up but haven't had the time to really try it out yet. Hopefully soon though.

Nice super moon pic!

Who doesn't want a cannon with a penguin holding dynamite and a robot clown. I'm asking for that for Christmas. "Please, Santa, can I have a cannon, a penguin holding dynamite and a robot clown. Please! Please! PLEASE!"

Oh nice, I saw it this past weekend, thought about it because B&N has a deal running where you can buy the turntable and some speakers as a bundle and its like $20 off the speakers (didn't get it). Maybe this weekend when I get the urge to rip more vinyl to iTunes.

Thank you sir!

The good thing with current Lego is that a lot of the items that are supposed to fire a projectile have the ability to. That cannon if you place a little cannon ball inside and pull the back of it will launch that ball. I haven't tried it.

It should launch the clown or penguin.

It should but you know some mom in Middle America is going to try and sue because their kid got hit in the face with the Penguin (even though the little missles the vehicles shoot have some kick)

Usually we have a different taste in music, but I really like that song. Smooth and catchy R&B. I usually don't like R&B.

Good on you for giving stuff to charity. We are always trying to give stuff away here, but ever since giving away certain old VHSes and CDs I'd grown out of and wish I'd kept for nostalgia, I tend to hoard. But there are definitely some clothes I'd be willing to part with.

Cool moon pics. It was damn pretty when I walked outside to see it. Very cool. I can kind of understand the Twitter guy though. I can be kind of a curmudgeon about what I do and don't care about, so aside from thinking it looks really cool and its rarity, I could see myself in 100 years waking up from cryogenesis saying "what's everyone so damn excited about, we had this in 2015; either it grants wishes or I don't care." At the time though, I just thought it was cool I got to see it. Nothing more than that really, but I wouldn't say I was unimpressed, especially since I'm a visual person.

LEGO Dimesnisons stuff looks so friggin' cool. I'm trying to be strong and hold out on buying anything though, especially since I really don't play LEGO games much.

Tony Hawk's 5 doesn't look new-gen enough to me to get it. To me it looks like Tony Hawk's 1 with updated graphics. The trailers didn't do anything to excite me and I'm skeptical if I'll like the new soundtrack, so I'll have to hear it before I go getting that game.

I'm glad you like the song. Usually I'm not really into R&B (the slower stuff) but during that time period there were a lot of songs I really liked. This also happened to be during the time when I listened to a lot of radio.

Thanks! I need to get everything figured out and what I want to give and then place them in boxes. So far I still have a stack of records in the other room that are meant for the thrift shop. Hopefully some folks will find some treasures in there and the money will help others out.

Hahaha that's when you go hipster and say "I dug the red moon before it was cool" and then yell at people.

Lego Dimensions is cool but if you're on the fence, wait a bit for deals on the Packs that are offered. Hopefully soon there will be a Buy 1 Get 1 for %off like what happened with Skylanders and Infinity. I do admit having minifigures of Portal and Wizard of Oz are really cool.

I'm not hearing good things about TH5. I'm disappointed because I really enjoyed the early games on the original Playstation. I really Loved it when I got the codes to do crazy things in the game. Goldfinger's Superman in THPS was the big song that stuck out to me from that soundtrack.

Superman is everyone's favorite. 2 is the definitive overall Tony Hawk's soundtrack for me.

You know I don't think I remember much from the 2nd soundtrack. After the first TH, I just turned the music down on next installments and had sports radio playing in the background. I played a lot of TH in between morning classes and that was usually the time of the Jim Rome Show.

Wasn't that eclipse something, though? I tried taking pics, but I kept getting this weird mirror image going on. Need to read up on the manual settings on my camera. You got some great pics, though.

I love Gunsmoke. I used to watch it with my grandparents when I was really little and it was still airing. When it was on in syndication, my grandfather and I used to watch them together. And while I was sick this week, I discovered that MeTV has it at 1:00 PM.

I dug it and it was interesting to not only see that but have my random neighbors doing the same thing. Sorry about your camera. I dig the manual settings, but there is a lot of trial and error. Thank goodness to be able to correct it on the computer.

You know I wasn't a big fan of Gunsmoke originally, but after watching a bit of it, I like it. MeTV has some good stuff. I think they still play I Dream of Jeanie. I need to figure out which channel it is on locally.

I enjoy Gunsmoke and Bonanza.  I used to watch the show with my mom. She looooves old westerns from her childhood.  And you're right-- that intro for Bonanza was pretty cool for a show back then.

Those are solid shows. My mom also watched a lot of Westerns and other period pieces like Little House on the Prairie and The Waltons. Those are some good shows to watch on a lazy day.
