More space is a good thing

I was down to around 25 free GB on my 360, and since I've been grabbing a lot of free games from Games with Gold, I decided it was time for a bigger hard drive. Got a 320 GB off Amazon for $44 and FedEx just delivered it. Now comes the fun part of transferring everything. The data cable I bought was used and didn't come with the utility disc, but I read somewhere that I don't need it. Hope that's the case.

As for physical space, I'm still waiting for the old heating system to be removed so that I can move things around and create a retro gaming space. I think another small bookcase may be what I want, I can put the hefty CRT flatscreen on top, and use the shelves for my many, many retro consoles. The cat will be happy, she used to love to nap on the old TV back in the apartment before I got the HD TV.

Off to buy pet food, the cat is convinced she's going to starve, and then try the data transfer. Wish me luck!

My cat is convinced she will die if she doesn't get more space outdoors. Not sure how transitioning back into an apartment will work in spring.

My cat isn't allowed outside - too many predators in my neighborhood, and I know the numbers of song birds killed by cats. I suspect Kaylee would be very good at killing song birds and very bad at avoiding predators.

I never actually download any of those free games until I'm ready to play them. I just hit the purchase button and then cancel the download. My account remembers what I've purchased and let's me redownload it anytime. That way I never run out of space. The only issue is when I switch to a new system and have to make sure I've transfered all my licenses. I'm still not sure how I messed that up with a few XBLA games that I'm sure I've bought twice.

If I didn't download them, I'd never remember I had them. I figure I should be all set, it took me since 2008 to fill that 120 GB HDD, and even after moving everything over, I still have over 200 GB left.

Yea, that is a problem. I've been logging them in on Backloggery so I don't forget. I think when I get a Xbox One, I'll start downloading everything.

I need a bigger HDD for my PS3, maybe one day. Also the cat, Loki always thinks he is starving.

Oh, I need one of those, too, but that's a bit more complicated than swapping out a 360 hard drive.

I have a 250GB 360 and ran out of space a long time ago.  Some of the digital games I own I also have the physical versions.  I think there is a way I can use an external hd for more space.  It's been a while since I looked that info up.  External hds have been dropping in price.  I'm thinking about getting two 2TB externals.  In a BestBuy sales paper, I saw they had 2TB externals for $70.  I'm not a fan of swapping out internal hds.  It's too much trouble, b/c I know I'll just run out of space again. Laughing

I figure I'm safe for a while, it took me seven years to fill up that 120 GB HDD I had. Unless it's free, I generally don't download games that have physical copies.

Most of the games I have digital are free or were on sale at the time of purchase.  I refuse to play more than $10 for a digital game and I still look for a cheap physical version if I only own the digital.  Last year I picked up Lego Marvel Super Heroes for $5 digitally.  I doubt I'll see a physical version at that price yet.  If I see it at $12, I'll pick it up.

There's a scratch down the screen from when we first set it up. need I say more?

Worked fine. The whole thing was a lot easier and faster than I thought it would be.

Data transfer has long been achieved, my friend. It was so incredibly simple! Swap drives, plug one end of transfer cable into old drive, plug the other into the USB port in the back of the unit (the one above the ethernet port), turn your 360 on, follow the prompts, and boom, all done. I freaked out at first because I kept reading about a utility disc, but you don't one. This youtube video was pretty helpful, as I need a visual representation for things to click in my head.

So while typing this I saw your reply to Broken H and I'm glad the transfer worked. You now have much more space to download more games! The retro corner sounds fun especially with the CRT TVs. This past weekend while roaming around Goodwill and I was looking at the CRT's.

I saved that CRT and have continued to lug it around because it's a pretty nice one, as well as being told by Widow from 1up that "older games look like ass" on an HD TV. And she's right, I tried it with a PS1 game on my PS3, and it looked so much better on the old TV.

I wish I would have kept my CRT from college. That was the only way I could play NES games that used the light gun, and yeah the older games look so much better on the CRT TVs. The only drawback is that those TVs are heavy!

The flat screened ones even more so than the curved screen ones.

No kidding. My first HD TV was flat face tube made by Samsung. When that thing called it a career, it was a pain bringing out to the front to be picked up by the recycling folks.
