Game Review Feast!

Hey folks, Chef Cary here, and I’ve cooked up a banquet of GamerDad.com game reviews for you to gobble up. Better bring your stretchy sweatpants, because you’ll all have big fat bellies after this feast! Please click on and read as many reviews as you can, and maybe even post a comment or two. I’d really appreciate it! Thanks so much!
This game was a big hit on Steam, so I’m glad it got a chance to be on Wii U as well. It was made with consoles in mind! It’s like a classic 2-D Sonic the Hedgehog game, except better. It also has elements of Treasure games from the 32-bit era like Silhouette Mirage on the PSOne and Mischief Makers on the N64. And it also has rudiments of other Genesis classics like Gunstar Heroes and Ristar. If Sonic Team wanted to get us to like Sonic again, they should get the Freedom Planet folks to make the next Sonic game. Or better yet, have them revive Ristar! At any rate, if you enjoyed any of those old games, you should check out Freedom Planet!
I had a whole bunch of cartoon related games so I made a Toon Week out of them at GamerDad.com. The Smurfs were really popular in the 80’s, but I only watched them because the cartoon came on right before the Pac-Man Saturday morning cartoon. I never really got into the show much, but I did like Jokey Smurf and his exploding presents! Even though the game is based on a dopey license, the actual game isn’t that bad. It’s a town simulator where you rebuild the Smurf village and play mini-games to gather materials and build things. While I wouldn’t recommend this game to any of you guys and gals, it just goes to show you that not all licensed games are bad.
Balls of Glory Pinball Pack (360)
This is a pack of 4 pinball tables for Pinball FX2 and Zen Pinball 2, and they are based on adult cartoons shows: Family Guy, American Dad, Bob’s Burgers, and Archer. You know what’s strange is that I like adult humor in cartoons like The Simpsons, Futurama, and King of the Hill, but I can’t stand shows like Family Guy and those others. And I’ve never even heard of Archer.
Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden (3DS)
I’m not a big fan of Dragon Ball Z, but the original Dragon Ball is one of my top favorite anime cartoons. And since I like it, I do know a bit about DBZ as well. This is a 2-D one-on-one fighting game with DBZ characters, and it’s made by Arc System Works. It’s also pretty good, and has plenty of gameplay modes. There are not a lot of one-on-one fighters on the 3DS, so if you enjoy those kinds of games and like DBZ as well, you should check this out. I like how the assist characters you can summon are pretty minor yet unexpected. Even my favorite Dragon Ball characters are in this game as assists: Puar and the turtle!
Transformers: Devastation (360)
I already posted a link to this review in my last blog about Transformers, so I won’t go into it much here. While I think it’s cool that this game was directly based on the old 80’s cartoon, and it was made by Platinum and plays like one of their typical offerings, I still think I like Fall of Cybertron better. It wasn’t directly based on the cartoon, but it had that same feel and felt more fun.
Care Bears: Belly Match (iPad)
Care Bears were big in the 80’s for a while, too. They even had a couple of movies in the theaters (and the first one was rather dark if I remember correctly). Normally I don’t like to review free-to-play Candy Crush clones, but this was by Ubisoft and they’ve been supportive of me since the Dallas Morning News days, so I checked this one out just out of curiosity. Plus I didn’t think Care Bears was even a thing anymore. The main problem with the game is that it kept freezing up on me! Not good for a free-to-play game to do that!
This is a typical 3-D endless flyer game, but was pretty popular on PC so now it’s on Wii U as well. It has one neat gameplay twist, though. Your ship is solar powered, so you must always stay in the sun. But the sun is slowly setting, making the shadows of obstacles grow long, so it gets harder and harder to stay out of the shadows! I wasn’t very good at this game, but my brother Jeff was a lot better!
Just another blog where I show off my recent Amiibo purchases. I’ll have another one up soon, too, as I just got a bunch of Animal Crossing Amiibo as well!
Ninja Strike: Dangerous Dash (Wii U)
And last is this 2-D endless runner game. I’m pretty sure it was on mobile devices, but now you can play it on Wii U. The ninja themes are neat, but otherwise, nothing special.
Now You’re All Stuffed!
And that’s all for now! You should all be stuffed from reading all those reviews. But my reviews are also packed full of nutrition, so you should all be really strong now, too! Anyway, thanks for reading and posting comments, I really do appreciate it. And if you want to, you can post a picture of something you think I would like as well, as I could use some cheering up after losing my job recently. Later! --Cary
