Catherine is a puzzle,platformer slash psychological horror adventure game developed by Atlus, the same team behind persona series, Catherine was the first game developed by Atlus on an HD 360 platform, it is adult oriented and the character designer Shigenori Soejima,and the cinematic portion was handled by Studio 4, and the game was released in north America on July of 2011.

 

 

 

Players control Vincent Brooks, who begins having strange nightmares after his girlfreind Katherine begins to talk about marriage and commitment. this matter becomes more complicated for him when he meets a girl named Catherine, and begins an affair with her, and the nightmares get more and more intense. The main story mode [ the golden palace ] follows the story between daytime and nightmare scenarios. During the daytime Vincent will converse with his freinds as well as try and handle his relationships with Catherine and Katherine. Most of this time is spent in the Stray Sheep bar where Vincent can save the game, and send text messages from his cell phone, talk to customers,order drinks, play a mini game called repunzell, which is a mini version of the puzzles you will be playing in your nightmares,and a juke box which plays all kinds of sound tracks off the persona games and other Atlus game soundtracks.

The main gameplay takes place in nightmare stages. In the dream world there is other men who look like sheep who are also haveing the dream who can help or hender you on your quest to the top. Vincent must climb up giant staicases, as quickly as possible as the staircases slowly crumble to accomplish this Vincent must pull,push and arrange the cubes to continue climbing all while avoiding traps like spikes ,ice etc,then at the end of each stage you have to climb to the top while some huge nightmarish creature is chasing you up destroying the stairs on the way, which is a boss of each stage, Vincent can move faster depending on how much he drank during the day at the bar,and he can get pillows on the levels that lets him restart at the point he found the pillow,make no doubt about it this is one tough game,but with a story as good as this game has you will be litteraly dieing to see the next part of the story which comes at the end of each nightmare.

The plot goes like this Trisha the midnight venus,host the tv show called the golden playhouse which will this evening relate the tale of a man named Vincent Brooks. the events of the show form the gameplay proper . In the neighborhood inwhich Vincent lives, there have been a recent number of bizzare incidents in which people die in there sleep,with a look of anguish on there face, strangely enough all the victims are young men, meaning if you die in your nightmare you die in real life and these men are the ones either trying to help you on the nightmares or push you to your death,at the end of each level when you reach the top you climb in an elevator which will take you to the next level and you will be ask a set of questions and your answer along with other parts of the game determins the outcome of your game and is registered on a kinds good to bad meter and although you dont know whats good or bad it amounts to do you cheat on Katherine with Catherine do you come clean and tell her,it all decides the good or bad meter which will effect the outcome of your game.

The graphics in Catherine are absolutly georgeous and done very well from the dark damp nightmares to the lively color filled bar scenes,the sound and voice acting are excellent the acting is some of the best acting I have ever seen in a game, like I said the story will keep you wanting to know what happens next and is very much worth it when you get to it,let me tell you this is a tough game and will deter most people from completing it and thats a shame cause this is an awesome story that you will want to see, especially the awesome ending,the music is awesome as well it has a lot of new in game tracks as well as some from the persona series and are excellent, over all this is a great game and worth whatever you pay for it and the story is well i just cant put into words what a great story Catgherine tells its a love triangl that your in control of ,and i have to give atlus props on how well this game is, so bottom line dont walk to get it RUN its that good.
