Now you're playing with power -- SUPER power!

Hello Pixlbit, how are you? Today is the 25th anniversary of the Super Nintendo, a system that I think is Nintendo's finest. Not only me, but everyone thinks so too.

SNES

Looking back at it, it had a ton of great games. It was during this time that not only did the games look better, but they played better too, and got more complex. Not complex as in hard but as an advancement in terms of technology, call it an evolution of games that we knew at that point. Its games definitely stand the test of time and seem to get better with age. Definitely my favorite retro system. I never owned one (unfortunately) but got to play and experience the games either their original format, or a different format.

Instead of doing a retrospective of it, because I'll be honest with you, there are far better ones on the internet than one I'd make. So instead here's a list of my favorite SNES games.

F-Zero

F-Zero: A launch title for the SNES, F-Zero was a racing game, but it was really different. It's fast paced and challenging and used Mode 7 graphics which simulated 3D environments, which was a technical feat at the time. I really didn't play this back then and certainly wasn't my first F-Zero game. I actually played it for the first time 2 years ago, and while I think GP Legend is the superior of the 2D F-Zero games, this one still holds up.

Mega Man X

Mega Man X: Mega Man X-4 is my favorite of the MMX games, but that was a Playstation game if I'm not mistaken. I played these games on the Mega Man X Collection, but played the original on the Wii U's Virtual Console. It's a very good game and offered a much matured take on a beloved franchise, at the time. It also introduced my favorite Mega Man character, Zero. It's also one of the hardest games out there, it really provides quite the challenge for anyone looking for something more challenging.

Super Castlevania IV

Super Castlevania lV: It may say 4 in the title, but it is in fact a remake of the original Castlevania. But it's a really great remake, it really brings out that brooding atmosphere with the advanced hardware of the SNES. This is the only one I've ever played, but definitely a favorite of mine.

Kirby Super Star

Kirby's Super Star: Often considered the best Kirby game of all time, I don't know about that but it's a great game. It's more than just 1 game, it's really 8 games in one. Each one takes Kirby on a different adventure, one of them is even a remake of the Gameboy game Kirby's Dream Land. This game also introduced us to Kirby's Ability Hats, which let people know what ability Kirby currently has. There's a remake of this game on the DS with new content. So a remake has a remake in it.

Street Fighter II

Street Fighter II: Remember arcades? They were a big thing back then, and Street Fighter II was the big thing in arcades in the 90's. I used to go to a laundromat near my house to play this with my friends and cousin. It was fun, but it was the SNES version that really hit home. It was fun as it was the same game you could play at the arcades. Everyone I knew played it, heck even people I didn't know played it. Definitely the most famous and influential fighting game out there.

A Link to the PastSuper Metroid

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and Super Metroid: You know how life always hits you with an important life deciding choice? This is exactly that right here. I love both of these game for entirely different reasons and both of them are really fantastic games, hence why I can't choose. A Link to the Past is a timeless classic up there with Ocarina of Time. It's a very big game, it has alot places to explore, plenty of dungeons, 2 worlds. I knew this game would awesome as soon as I set foot outside during the storm. Super Metroid is regarded as the best one in the series. It's not my most favorite, but definitely one of my favorite games. It really nails that atmosphere and feeling of loneliness the series is known for as well as the exploration. I love both of these games as I've said, so they are tied for now.

Super Mario World

Super Mario World: Remember when people say there is no perfect game out there? Well I beg to differ because Super Mario World definitely fits that description. This is the finest 2D platfomer out there, I've played alot of these and while they are good, they don't come close to this. I definitely like it better than SMB3 and think it's a better game of the two. Level design is just fantastic and each level has an alternate exit and not to mention hidden levels. Yoshi was introduced here too and added different gameplay elements to the game too. Not to mention the Super Cape, a new power-up that gives Mario flight that enables unlimited flight, giving a literal meaning to the name Super Mario. This game in my opinion has no equal, it really set the bar high, and none of the recent 2D Mario games, while fun, still don't come close.

So those are my favorite SNES games. Thanks for reading and later.

Those are some good choices.  Like I said before, the SNES is my favorite game console ever.

Great games. Don't think Castlevania IV is an exact remake of first game though, based on differences in the first area alone. There are a lot. Of differences.

someday I'm gonna buy a SNES to make up for the fact I never had one as a kid.
