I'm not really too surprised. It kind of looks like DLC for Final Fantasy XV, but I'll take it.

Update:

Also turns out the game will be episodic as well? Hmm...

And Barret doesn't look like Barret.

There are already ppl complaining about how the new models don't represent the old cartoony models, lol.

I don't think I'm interested but who knows. Until I have a PS4 the point is moot.

I wasn't super pumped for the game. Am now.

I hope they also bring back Crisis Core. It fits the new game style and also serves as a prequel to the series.

I think the game is looking amazing, I also like the battle system. I would trade turn based for the more real time kingdom hearts style any day. People are gonna complain no matter what about this game, its a an old favorite and people would rather they up the graphics and just not change anything passed that. I on the orther hand am giving it a chance, i didnt really play thru the original. Im hopeing they might redo 9 down the rode, its a pipe dream.

The new combat will probably be more accessible to new players. This is why Dragon Age and Mass Effect, and to some extent Fallout 4 moved away from traditional RPG mechanics.

Looks fantastic, can't wait. Playing the original now.

The PC port that just arrived on PS4, the Steam version or the original PS1 disc?

The PS4 version. I've been streaming it through twitch and uploading videos. If I could find my mic I'd do voice commentary. :)

I never played original, so I'm stoked if it doesn't have turn-based combat. Turn- based is just not my cup.

I don't think I want any more episodic games. They space out the releases too far. I lose interest. I didn't finish the last episode to Tales of the Borderlands, because it just took too long to all come out. I just didn't care after almost a year.

Who knows what the release schedule will be, but Res Evil Rev 2 was weekly or biweekly and it was fine, otherwise just wait for the full release.

Yea, unless it's like monthly, I think I'll wait until a complete release happens like I'm doing with the new King's Quest game.

Honestly I am really pumped about this.Although I didn't know about the episodic till I saw your blog...that part I am a little ehhhhh about but I'll probably get over it.

The game looks amazing so far though and honestly I don't see why people are complainiing, I think the characters looked great as well!

I bet this game is going to be a Cliff Notes versin of the original. How is episodic structure going to affect the overworld? Backtracking? Exploration? Will there even be an overworld? The structure of the original game is not comparable to Revelations 2.

The combat doesn't look interesting either way.  The amount of options you had in FF7's combat were so few and so simplistc that the switch to real time is no big loss. However, this new combat  looks shallow, boring, and shit so far. I expect digital whack-a-mole, nothing more.

Overall it looks like fans are being taken for a ride. The big retail segment of SE has not produced a compelling or thoughtful game design for two generations now, at least. Hacks.

I think you are absolutely right. The real time battles may have put a damper on my enthusiam (if I actually had any) but episodic content threw a whole bucket of ice water over my head. I can't see how the thing can work in small chunks at all.

let's not forget the first one was episodic -- as in it was four separate discs of content, with minimal backtracking. I imagine it COULD be like that, but who knows with game companies these days.

Oh its not turn based anymore? Maybe I'll give it another shot. Can't say I'm surprised that this game has turned episodic. It seems a lot of games are taking this route which could be good for casual gamers but I wonder how the folks who spend a ton of time playing games like this feel about only getting it in chapters.

I can't really weigh in on this. I want to play it to be all perfectly honest. Just because I have never beaten or played FF7. I always watched other people.

I am excited. I know they are altering the game but I am not some devout FF fan. So...yeah.

Well, original FF7 is on PSN and Steam now, plus there are features like turning off random battles if you just want to explore, or so I've read. It's like $7. I plan on playing it again before Remake is launched.
