Anyone who knows me knows that Final Fantasy X is my favorite game, possibly ever. No...definitely ever.

Square Enix announced the HD remaster for Final Fantasy X in 2011, supposedly to be released for the PS3 and Vita. But they didn't really have any other information to share about it, and we haven't heard much about it since. But earlier this week it was announced that Final Fantasy X is being remastered along with Final Fantasy X-2, and they're both being packaged together and being made available in the West....in 2013. And they also shared some nice screenshots.

Pretty huh? And they showed off these gameplay shots earlier this year.

Needless to say, I'm excited. I'll be picking up the PS3 version whenever this hits. Now I'll leave you with this hauntingly gorgeous piece of music.

Oh man. I'm gonna have to buy the Vita version. I think the screen will make the game look gorgeous. Also portability is a big factor. Now just make FF12 and I will forgive Square Enix for Versus13 not showing up.

There's another rumor floating around the internet that the Final Fantasy title being shown at E3 might end up being Versus XIII, but it's being rebranded as XV. Oh well, we'll just have to see how it turns out.

I heard a similar rumor. That Versus is now FF15 and exclusive to PS4. I really want Type-0. I read the developers were testing HD version of Type-0. I hope it appears in one  form or another. Otherwise I will have to learn a bit of Japanese 101.

I'm gonna buy the Vita just to play this. I'm so excited!

I STILL haven't gotten around to purchasing a Vita. Clearly this is a message from the gods telling me to go ahead and do it.

Not being a JRPG gamer, I could never get into FFX when I rented it, but those cutscenes sure were gorgeous; can't wait to see what the HD updates of those look like.

Agreed. The only thing is...Tidus's new face looks a little uh..off. It's chubbier in all the wrong places. I noticed Wakka's a little skinnier too, not that that's a bad thing. Lulu looks the best in my opinion. You can really see the detail of her hair and dress in this version. Overall the whole thing looks a lot more refined. No more jagged edges at least.

Final Fantasy X was the first Final Fantasy I played from beginning to end without getting sidetracked. I loved every minute of it so I will most likely purchase this one when I can.

I don't think I'll be able to resist getting it at launch!

I'm not a big fan of FFX.  I did finish it though.  I'd much rather SE redid FFVII.  My reasoning is FFX still looks decent the way it is.  FFVII has not aged well.  Better yet, SE could release another FF game that has nothing to do with FFXIII.

I like VII too, but at this point I'll just take what I can get. I highly doubt they're gonna do a remake of VII anywhere in the near future, so I've just stopped worrying about it. Just gonna focus on enjoying this.

Aw, who cares about FFX, FFX-2 in HD?  Capcom just announced DuckTales Remasters, that's way cooler!

Don't worry!  I'm just joking with you!  Just giving you a hard time! :)

So, knowing that I really only play classic styled FF games, do you think I would like FFX or FFX-2?  Only thing I know about FFX is one of the characters fights with plush toys of classic FF mascots.  That's pretty darn cool.

Cary, that would be Lulu she was one of my favourite characters to use in battle but her ultimate weapon was a huge pain to get so I didn't bother. The switch from the previous games is pretty drastic but I love FF IX and I loved FF X so you may like it.

I'd recommend Final Fantasy X-2 for Cary. It's kind of silly, and the battle system is just like an old-school Final Fantasy battle system.

Lulu...that's a funny name.  Wouldn't I have to play FFX to know what's going on in FFX-2, though?

GamerGirlBritt

X's plot was deep, but It's nothing you won't catch on to within an hour of playing X-2

GamerGirlBritt

FFX was my first Final Fantasy game, and I'd say it was a great introduction. Since you've only played the classics I can't say for sure whether the newer style will be completely up your alley. It's really just a matter of what you like and what you don't like, so I'd say give at least the PS2 version a try. There's no good reason not to.

Is this only coming out for the ps3?? Is there going to be a retail version..Or just downloaded version only!!!

GamerGirlBritt

PS3 and PS Vita. Final Fantasy X and X-2 will be packaged on one disc for the PS3 but sold in seperate retail copies for the Vita

The best thing I can say about FFX is that Lulu was a babe. Otherwise I realy have no love for this game. I agree with jgusw, I would rather see a revamped FFVII. Ok in all fairness it did have some pretty mind blowing visual effects, but that just can't make up for the lame characters, useless abilities, pointless weapon upgrades, lack of an explorable over world map, and a dragged out redundant story. Sorry, totally my opinion. And I'm not even going to get into X-2 aka Sailor Moon Magical Fashion Show.

GamerGirlBritt

No offense taken here. To each their own! I love VII too, but they've made it clear they have no intentions of redoing that anytime soon, so I don't see a point in worrying about it any longer. I agree with you on the X-2 aspect. That was just a mess. A well intentioned mess, but still a mess all the same.

FFX is nice, and I will be getting the PS3 version, but I'd much rather have a remaster of Final Fantasy XII.

Atlus*Aspect

03/23/2013 at 08:30 PM

I always consider FFX my favorite in the series, but I'd rather have XII as well. It's just a better game (though unlike X, I could never get into XII's samey-looking cast).

I think my real love for FFX comes from the "VII-effect": the graphics were some of the most impressive I had seen at the time, and it was the 1st FF (and one of the 1st RPGs) I ever played. I think much of VII's adoration stems from this same formula.

GamerGirlBritt

03/23/2013 at 10:36 PM

I see what you're saying, but it's not really about being "the better game". It's just a HD remaster. They're not changing or enhancing anything about the gameplay experience. It's more or less the same game, just nicer to look at.

I agree that Final Fantasy VII and X both benefited from being the first Final Fantasies of a new hardware generation, That wasn't X's appeal to me. When I played it I didn't have any idea of graphics or console wars or hardware capabilities, I just enjoyed it for the game it was. I actually played VII after X, so I can't really speak on how that game was experienced for the first time. So I think the "VII effect" may have had an impact on the sales of these games, but not necessarily the quality or popularity of these games. I mean, look at XIII. That game is gorgeous as hell, but it's polarizing to say the least.

Atlus*Aspect

03/24/2013 at 06:57 PM

I knew I was going to regret using that "better" word.

GamerGirlBritt

03/24/2013 at 07:12 PM

Nah you're good. I see what you were saying.

GamerGirlBritt

03/23/2013 at 10:29 PM

I wouldn't doubt them doing one in the future, and I'd be on board if that was the case, but I doubt that's gonna happen anytime soon, seeing as the graphics aren't nearly outdated. X isn't really either, but XII is considerably more polished than X is obviously. They could do the remaster regardless, but it wouldn't be that big of difference, as it clearly is with X.

So being that FFX is one of my favs in the series let me guess no release on the 360 am I right.

GamerGirlBritt

03/24/2013 at 02:19 AM

You would be correct

leeradical42

03/24/2013 at 03:02 AM

Well it always seems if its not Modern Warfare or Battlefeild it passes the 360 hopefully the PS4 will be a worthy purchase sorry not to rag on the ps3 but although it has a great srpg jrpg and rpg library my experience with it sucked but with that said I heard the man behind the ps2 was making the ps4 and god i hope so.

I am so stoked on the PS3 version with X-2 included... This release, coupled with Windwaker HD is pretty much just like heaven for me.

GamerGirlBritt

My thoughts exactly. I've never actually played Windwaker (shame, I know) so I'm super excited about that as well
