On Christmas and Hiatuses

Hey, everybody. I hope you all had a merry Christmas/holiday of your choice/time off work. I've been super busy at work and now finally get a few days off...in a row! It's great. I quick look at my blog history shows that I haven't written anything other than my monthly recaps since July. Crazy! But I've been itching to blog some more (and Blog-a-Day will be here before I know it) so here we go!

This was a lighter birthday and Christmas (those two are pretty close together for me) on the games front for me but that's fine. I'm already drowning in my backlog lol. But my wife did get me Steins;Gate for the Vita, which is one of the few things I've really wanted lately. It's a visual novel about time travel and is supposedly really good. I'll be starting that up early in the new year.

But I did get several game-related things. My parents sent we a sweet Wind Waker T-shirt with one of those stained glass window scenes on it. My wife also got me a Metroid travel mug, which I needed, and the first volume of Jeremy Parish's Game Boy World series. I've already started reading that and it's really good, of course. Sometimes I miss the simple days of Game Boy.... My brother got me a Legend of Zelda book that I'd never seen before called Legend of the Hero. It's like some sort of Hyrule almanac/beastiary or something. Looks really good, whatever it is!

NOT related to games, my wife also got me a really fancy hardback copy of Arkham Asylum...as in, the graphic novel by Grant Morrison (not related to games, remember?). I'm especially keen to read this one because it was illustrated by Dave McKean (see what I did there?) and his style will go so well with what will no doubt be a very trippy story. (If you can't remember who McKean is, he did all the covers for Neil Gaiman's The Sandman comics. Good weird stuff.)

Seems like I'm forgetting something but I'm afraid if I don't put this up now it will sit in my browser for several more days and we can't have that. So enjoy the last few days of 2015, folks. I can't believe we're almost done with this thing.

I love Arkham Asylum.  Great, great book. I read it again about a month or two ago.  The edition I have comes with Morrison's notes -- did you ge that one?

It's nice to hear from you! I'm looking forward to BaD myself!

I don't know what edition you have but mine is the 25th Anniversary Deluxe Edition. There is as much bonus material at the back of the book as there is story lol.

yeah that's the one I have.  I think it has notes on the script.  Very interesting and illuminating.

Sounds like you had a good Christmas.

I did! The best part, honestly, was that my three-year-old son has a concept of Christmas and presents now and was psyched out of his little mind about it all Smile

Parish's project is pretty cool. Every single GameBoy game. Wow. He's got some project on his hands.

Sounds like he doesn't expect to finish it (it is a HUGE project, after) but it will sure be good while it lasts.

Happy New Year! I still have to check it out, but he talks about it all the time on the various podcasts I hear him on.
