Hello all, I finally found the time to sit down and write my first blog of 2016. Just the same things that always keeps me from writing blogs; work. On weekends I am usually out of the house most of the time. And I have been thinking, someone should create a PixlBit community on PSN if there is not one already., that would be pretty cool to chat with the community on there as well. Also, for those of you who don't know already; Amazon is offering 20% off on pre-orders of games, I pre-ordered Uncharted 4 for like $47, pretty good deal. It doesn't work on every single game, but a good majoirty of them. Here is what I have been up to:
GAMES BEAT
Until Dawn (Playstation 4)
I heard this game was good from multiple podcasts and decided to give it a shot; I can say that I fully agree. It is basically a TellTale (Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us...etc) game but looks way better. Easily one of the best looking games, period. The story is pretty entertaining and there are quite a bit of jump scares. I completed the game twice and basically made completely opposite decisions for each playthrough. It was entertaining how different it was. I liked this game and I would recommend it.
CURRENTLY PLAYING
Dragon Age: Inquistion (Playstation 4)
I have never played a Dragon Age game. I love the Mass Effect games though and thought I would give this game a try. So far it is not doing it for me though. I don't know if it's the setting or the combat, it just seems kind of boring to me. Maybe both. I just have never really got into fantasy setting now that I think about it. I might play for a little more and if it doesn't catch me, I may just move on. I am at the point in my life where I am not going to play a game I don't like.
Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends Complete Edition (Playstation 4)
My disinterest in Dragon Age caused me to start messing around with this game. The last Dynasty Warriors game I have played was Dynasty Warriors 3 way back on the Playstation 2, so it has been a while. I was playing the story mode and it is pretty fun, they added a bunch of cool stuff to the series since I last played it; picking up new weapons, EX attacks, each character has two super moves, each character can carry two weapons at a time. I am liking this game, I may keep on the story mode and try to beat it with all campaigns. There are also a ton of modes for this game, it's pretty cool. [ These pictures are captured from my PS4, funny that watermark at the bottom was added automatically].
Call of Duty: Black Ops III (Playstation 4)
Still playing through the multiplayer on this, as always. Me and my brother play the shit out of the multiplayer and have been since Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. I can definitely say that the Black Ops games are my favorite in the pantheon of the COD games. This game is cool how you can run on walls and the guns all feel pretty good. I just want the next COD game to be a World War II game though; the futuristic stuff is getting old fast. Second picture is my boasting pic, lol.
Star Wars: Battlefront (Playstation 4)
I still have a lot of fun on this game. I like the mode where everyone is in vehicles, that's pretty awesome. EA really needs to put out more free DLC though I will admit. I have fun with what is there though and I have definitely played it enough to warrant the $40 I bought it for. I like playing as the Empire troops more than the Resistance ones, they have better vehicles. The graphics are pretty awesome in this game, cannot wait until more games start looking this good.
Ultra Street Fighter 4 (Playstation 4)
I usually play this in the evening, it's pretty fun to mess around on. I will even attempt online matches and get my ass handed to me 95% of the time. I like Chun-Li, she has always been my favorite character in Street Fighter 4. I have been experimenting with other characters like Ken, Dudley and Juri. I want to beat with every character to see who I like fighting with. Playing this makes me kind of want Mortal Kombat X too, that game looks fun and the Fatalaties look brutal. The second picture here is how I feel everytime I play online...
MY TOP 5 GAMES OF 2015
1) Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain - GAME OF THE YEAR
This was a no-brainer, I loved every single minute I spent with this game and have been contemplating going back in to try to plat it. I enjoyed the story, even the curve ball at the end. It's pretty obvious this game still wasn't complete but what is there is still better than anything and everything that came out this year. The gameplay is the best thing I have played in probably a decade and there is so much to do and so much stuff to unlock. On GiantBombcast, Brad Shoemaker said this would have been his new favorite all-time game if the whole package was there, it's too bad things got sour between Konami and Kojima and this game came out the way it did; and then Konami goes in and tries to stick micro-transactions into the FOB portion (which I never touched). It's a shame that Kojima will most likely never touch a Metal Gear game again, it is and has always been my favorite series in gaming. The gamplay is perfect in this game, the unlocks are fun and humorous, Quiet is one of the greatest characters in MGS history and I loved everything about this game. As a die hard MGS fan, I was really worried about this game going open world, but Kojima's spin on it is just so much better than I could've ever imagined.
2) Rocket League
This game came out of nowhere. Released as a Playstation Plus game, at first glance it didn't look like anything special; cars playing soccer? When I did download and play it, I was hooked for two months solid; in that time I didn't play or think about playing anything else. If Metal Gear didn't come out this year, this would have been my favorite game on Playstation 4. The controls really are on-point, playing like you are driving a remote control car, it's pretty fun to drive. The soundtrack is great too, there were times I booted up the game and had not started playing right away, all the artist I had never heard of and even downloaded some of the music on my iPhone. Play this game if you haven't yet.
3) Bloodborne
Demon's Souls was the first and only game I have played in the 'Souls' series, and I enjoyed the hell out of it, but I never beat it. That is exactly the same situation that happened with Bloodborne. I liked the game a lot but because I constantly die so repeatedly, I just lost my momentum to keep going. I definitely want to go back and play it, there is just so many games to play that it is hard to go back. Game looks and play great, I like that it is more action oriented.
4) Until Dawn
Another unexpected surprise, this game turned out to be better than I thought. Another great looking game; Sony directed games always seem to get the most out of the console. See above section in which I described my experience with it.
5) Call of Duty: Black Ops III
See my description above. I like this game so much and all I have touched is the multiplayer so far. The game looks gorgeous and play great as always. If you play Battlefront and this game, the difference in control and maneuvering is night and day.
HONORABLE MENTIONS: Super Mario Maker, Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions, Splatoon
This year was a pretty good year for game releases. We had a little bit of everything and if everything that was supposed to come out didn't get delayed, it would have been that much better. GiantBomb was really high on Super Mario Maker, I liked it, but it is a lot easier for them to enjoy it because they have a community around them and it is so much easier for them to enjoy it with their resources. As a person with none of those resources, the game just didn't have the levels to keep me going; it plays great, I just wish Nintendo would have put tons of their own custom levels on the disc (I want to play, not create) and that is the reason it didn't make my list. As for Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions, the original game was probably my favorite Xbox 360 game and the second was a great follow up. I like that I can finally buy the series on a Playstation console and it includes the originals via the Classic Mode. I like playing the Waves mode from the second game the most. And Splatoon was ok, I liked that it was new and fresh and that why it deserves recognition; it didn't hook me though the way it did some others. It's great to see new stuff, especially from Nintendo, and I wish companies would push more new franchises.
HAVEN'T PLAYED YET: Dying Light, Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Batman: Arkham Knight
TOP 5 MOST ANTICIPATED GAMES OF 2016
Looking forward, Mass Effect: Andromeda will hopefully pick up were ME3 left off. I love the series and look forward to the next installment. Mass Effect has quickly become one of my favorite series in gaming. I hope that Andromeda will somehow connect to the original trilogy, but at the moment it seems doubtful. The bookend of an awesome series, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End looks great visually and I love the characters and stories of these games. It would be refreshing if A Theif's End was more dark than the first three, I would like the change of pace. Horizon: Zero Dawn is something new and that is always refreshing, I cannot wait to see more of this game. I recently took a look at the DOOM gameplay videos and it looks so great; like a blend of the old games mixed in with new. And finally I have the Street Fighter V bug again, the only concern I have is that they need to add more characters and fast.
CONCLUSION
Thank you everyone for reading. I try to put as much as I can in this blog as I find myself with less and less time to write them. Add me on PSN, it's always nice to see everyone on there and what you are playing.
