Hello and Happy Tuesday Pixlpeeps! Yesterday I was enjoying the day updating the phone’s playlist and moving unheard music. I found some good stuff, some forgotten favorites, and some songs I’d like to forget. They were all moved to their respective playlists. Anyways this past weekend and yesterday I managed to knock out one game and its three available add-on content (the fourth one is going to be delivered to my door later on today. Thanks Amazon pre-order!) I knocked this game off of Mount Backlog because I thought Lego Marvel 2 was being released today because I got the weeks mixed up. Anyways because of this push to finish my current game I’m back in the Lego mood

I knocked out the remaining levels over the weekend and tackled the add-on stuff and finished the last one yesterday (oh there’s a story with that level.) In a nutshell Lego Dimensions was full of promise that fell short. Overall is it a good game? Yeah, but its nowhere near as good as Lego Batman 3. I felt some portions of the game could have been handled differently especially when you consider all the licenses involved with the game and the potential to create something great with them. I felt some levels were almost mailed in while others were done well. There was one level in particular towards the end (no spoilers) where the presentation and graphics were really well done, and it was easily one of my favorites in the game.

As for controls it is your same Lego game so if you played any of the previous games you have an idea of what’s going on. I do wish that there were more instruction within the game especially when you are using fun packs. The figures included a little Lego booklet but no instructions. Instead you had to place your figure on the portal and then select the instruction booklet to build your accessory, and then have it synced to the figure. While Lego did offer the instructions online, it would have been helpful for that address to be posted within the included booklet.

Lego did involve the portal into the gameplay, which is a pleasant change than from games like Disney Infinity. The puzzles within the game as well as battles involve moving characters to different sections of the portal. This adds to the usefulness of the portal being part of the game rather than just a station to place figures and vehicles on. The puzzles were well done and there was a decent variety.

Lego Dimensions did lack in some areas. For folks who like to collect everything be ready to spend cash on extra figures because certain sections require special characters. Since the update certain spots you can rent a character (usually for 50,000 studs) to unlock something special. I managed to get most items using a line up of: The Included Figures, Homer, his exploding TV for Silver Objects, Cyborg for his laser eye for gold items, The Wicked Witch from Wizard of Oz because she flies, and the Tardis because it can fly any character to hard to reach areas. The only things I could not get with these characters or rented are sections where Scooby Doo is needed to dig, and rainbow sections for Unikitty. I also will probably need to pick up the Arcade setup later on because those sections pop up.

As for the add-ons the only real problem I had was a couple of glitches in The Simpsons and Dr. Who. In the Simpsons I got stuck in a loop when the exploding TV was in a ditch and I backed the DeLorean into the ditch and it kept exploding and I was forced to restart. The Dr. Who glitch happened early in the game when I couldn’t get the damn Tardis to take me to the next section. The prompt never appeared, and that was a pain in the behind. Eventually I got it to go and at that point I just wanted to finish the level.

Overall Lego Dimensions is your run of the mill Lego game with a portal and toys. If you are a huge fan of Lego, buy it. If you want to save some cash but get the Lego experience, there are a ton of older Lego games that will give you the plastic block fix you need.

This other game I’ve been playing off and on for a couple of weeks and I keep forgetting to mention it to you folks

Yeah if you remember playing the Star Wars game in the arcade, its fun flashback and it looks just like the arcade game

Oh younger Chris spent way too much on this game and he wasn’t very good at it. Thanks to my parents for letting me have a quarter or two every once in a while to play it.

Alright Pixlpeeps I am off, have a good week!

That’s all for now, more later!

-Chris

I was the freaking master at arcade star wars.  I loved that game SO much.

That game is so much fun. I think if I saw that game today in the arcade, I'd probably be decent.

if I was ever going to buy a used arcade rig from back in the day, that would be it.  Then probably followed by Ms. Pac Man.

My favorite part of LEGO Dimensions was the Portal stuff. That's probably the closest thing we'll get to a Portal 3 for a while, if ever.

The Ghostbusters level pack comes out this week.  I hope to get that one, as Ghostbusters is one of my top favorite movies of all time.

The Portal levels were fun because they were puzzles. Of course it was a bit easier to get through certain sections because I had figures who could fly and trigger some items, but overall it was fun.

I liked the Ghostbusters Level Pack but there were some dead spots

I'm going to get Lego Dimensions when the starter pack goes on sale sometime. I love all the special abilites the different figures have.

Currently the starter pack I think is 50% off at Target with Cartwheel. The figures are cool, but just like other games with figures, if you buy certain ones, you can unlock basically everything in the game.

Speaking of figures, I just heard someone using a yarn Yoshi amiibo in Mario & Luigi Paper Jam. It apparently makes the final boss easier. Too bad I don't have the "new" 3DS to do that.

I saw one of these

It would be kind of awkward but if you're like me and refuse to upgrade to a newer version of a handheld that works find, this could be a nice fix.

I'm considering it. I'd like to play Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure on 3DS next though, and that comes with it's own portal. But maybe if Fire Emblem Fates has an amiibo feature, I might get one.
