At the beginning of the year our thoughts turn towards what games we want the most that are (supposedly) going to be released this year. Looking ahead to 2016, given my tastes in gaming, it's looking like a good year, certainly leaps and bounds ahead of 2014 and 2015. Lots of RPGs coming down the pipeline. There's probably a lot of other stuff I'm not even aware of yet.
Anyway, here are my most anticipated games of 2016. This list, of course, is predicated on the assumption that these games will actually make it out this year.
1. Zelda Wii U
2. Final Fantasy XV
3. Zelda: Twilight Princess HD
4. Valkyria Chronicles Remaster
5. Persona 5
6. Street Fighter V
7. The Last Guardian
8. Dragon Quest VII 3DS
9. Star Fox Zero
10. Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness
Honorable mentions: Dark Souls III, Kingdom Hearts 3, Nights of Azure, Cosmic Star Heroine, Fire Emblem: Fates, Bravely Second: End Layer, Doom, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Horizon; Zero Dawn, NieR: Automata.
yeah these look sick. They just announced the details for Valkyria Chronicles today. Looks good. Maybe the new one will come out this year too, who knows?
I'm looking forward to DQ VII but I'm also excited for DQVIII again too, I never beat the last boss last time.
Back when I used Twitter, I followed the developers of Cthulu and Cosmic Star Heroine. I'm quite excited about that one too.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that a PS4 version of Dragon Quest VIII will show up. :) If it does, that's the version I'm getting.
Also hoping for Valkyria: Azure Revolution and HD remasters of the PSP games for PS4.
yeah i would get that too. Vita has better speakers, etc.
Doom and Dishonored 2 are somewhere on my list and that Brut@l game that was announced at PSX 2015.
Mass Effect Andromeda, Pokken Tournament, and Zelda Wii U have me most excited for next year.
On your list I'm only looking forward to the Zelda titles and Star Fox, maybe KH3 if it does come out this year. If you haven't already, I'd like to encourage you to take a look at my similar 2016 anticipated games blog I wrote a couple of weeks ago.
I'm interested in seeing where Zelda U goes. People making a big deal out of the open world, which was present in the very first game of course. I hope it's not Ubisoft or Rockstar open world where you head to the activity node to get your Skinner box fix and the map is littered with icons crafted by the same handful of graphic design graduates (seriously, not much visual difference between the map icons of Skyrim, Mad Max, or MGSV). Whatever happened to elegance in design and presentation? Now there is so much blunt force, HERE IT IS banality.
For me: Zelda U, Barkley 2, Etir, Star Citizen (yeah right), the Planescape: Torment 'sequel', Ni-Oh, Twilight Princess HD, Cuphead, Dragon Quest Builders, Underworld Ascendant, Unreal Tournament. Hopefully some indie surprises I either forgot about or haven't been announced yet.
I like this list and the runners up.
It's gonna be a good year for games, that's for sure.
