ProJoe, The Finishist; And End To Console War

Does anyone else have this weird habit of wanting to complete a game before moving on to anything else, to the point where you've stopped having fun and you just want to finish it? But looking at videos feels like "cheating" the same way reading SparkNotes doesn't give you the same experience as reading a novel? Just me?

Also, can we please stop pretending consoles having exclusive games for them is "good for the industry cause it drives competition?" That is complete and utter horseshit. There's no lack of competition among Blu Ray player manufacturers because of "exclusivity." I get that there are other factors to consider, like whether a game can run on certain hardware or be optimized for it, but I for one am ready for cross-play and to not have to worry about what games you'll be "allowed" to get as part of the hardware-buying process.

No. And it depends on what game it is. I feel like some games give me all they can within a few hours, and then I'm okay with it if I just dont want more of it. Life is too short to have your time wasted. Also, what game are you referring to?

I agree with the consolse exclusivity bullshit. As much as I love the PS4, I still play PS3 and VITA more and I got a PS4 mainly to play Bloodborne. Bloodborne should have released on PC as well at least. Apart from PS+ games, I'm not really playing a lot of PS4 games that much. MGSV I played on PC, and I think Tomb Raider is releasing soon.

Right now GTA III, but this is a problem I have more generally and outside games. I don't have OCD, but I have some minor symptoms I think.

I still vastly prefer console to PC for optimization, but I really wish it were more like movie and music players where there might be a difference in quality as far as the hardware last and its storage space, but having to miss out on a game because you don't have the money to own multiple consoles is supremely annoying and always has been. I am incredibly sick of the misinformed argument that exclusivity is somehow necessary for competition.

Exclusivity might be a conspiracy to get us completionists to buy all consoles just so we can play all games.  :-p

im with u though, I find it annoying.

Nah, I'm pretty sure it's so each of the big players can ensure a bigger market share for themselves. But that's still a good theory. haha

I keep wanting to play all sorts of games, and then a friend asks me to play something and I drop them and do that. Social always beats personal projects I've found. It's just human nature, I guess, but it frustrates me sometimes.

The exclusivity thing, and timed releases for different consoles, is, I think, just the way console makers try and push their system. Whoever pays more for exclusivity or first release, gets to push their system a little bit in the market place. Like the way The Witness is only on PS4 right now. Someone (Sony) probably payed them a little more than MS to get that. It's just the console makers battling it out.

Yeah, social gets in the way of me doing work, because I always think I'm missing out if I don't go out on Fri/Sat nights even if I'm kinda trying to do something proiductive. Blech.

I know why it happens, as I said to Matt it's just the big players wanting a big share of the market. But that doesn't breed the type of competition that helps consumers.

Yea, it's not helping consumers. It just makes me want all the consoles.

Which is exactly the point. I've only ever had one console per generation because it's all I've ever been able to afford. But shit man. I want to play the games I want to play. I'd pay for a Netflix like subscription service to have access to everything. That'd still be annoying as all hell, but much less expensive depending on pricing and how long you do it.

I keep trying to limit myself, but then something amazing comes out exclusive to one system that I really want. Plus, way back in the early 2000s I said to myself that my goal was to own all the systems. I should rethink that since it puts way too many games on my plate.

I don't mind the exclusive thing because typically I end up with all the systems at some point. I'm also used to it in the end because I've always been a console gamer and barely got to play PC games. We can cry like crocodiles but the industry isn't changing, not anytime soon.

I'm not cryin', I'm just not buyin'. (any other consoles but 1 a generation). Also though, I could see exclusivity going away because developers and publishers want more market share than exclusivity might allow.

Nope I usually jump around to different games, but with Lego Avengers I did stick with it until I got the platnium.

I see the "exclusives" has a cheap ploy to buy your game on one console instead of another when it will be eventually released on. As for games that are only just on one console and I don't own it, I stop caring until I either buy that console or foget about it. Of course now exclusive add-on content seems to be the new thing to go along with the game releases.

See, but I won't stop caring about Zelda ... which is annoying because that's really the only thing making me want a Wii U; everything else I REALLY want is on PS4.

I get where you're coming from, and that is one of the things that gets frustrating. You want to play X game but you have to buy a specific console and there really isn't anything else you want to play on it. I'm that way with the Lego game on WiiU that's like Grand Theft Auto. I have the 3DS version but it isn't as good as the console version (what reviewers have said)

Tbh, if Nintendo went all third-party like Sega, it would pretty much cover me outside of the random Microsoft exclusives.
