I had a BaD Day

My lectures and in-class workshops seem to be getting worse before they get better. I thought basically creating a 7-page document with all the stuff these kids need to know in Final Cut Pro X would be good, but I lost track of the order I wanted to go in and wound up having to use still images to explain video concepts. Some of them had footage on their computers, some did not. That's on me for not thinking of it Friday, and I should have gotten the footage I was working on for another professor to show them, but ... yeah. Can't do anything about it now without a Tardis.

I got with another professor just a few minutes ago to make sure the students and I will have video to work with while I explain, y'know, video editing.I actually asked the class to bring some kind of video to class just in case, but this way I'll have a video intended as instruction material. I'll probably give them bonus pts or something if they actually have video of their own next time. Or maybe not, since I am already giving them a bonus pts quiz for a chapter I had them read I wound up ... not seeing why previous professors included.

At least my intro class this morning went well, but of course it did. Just a review day for their tests on Friday. And that's just lecture/PowerPoint, so nothing major. The classes where I have to try keeping their attention while they're doing their own hands on stuff (3/4 classes I teach) are the challenge.

Well, tomorrow is a new day. I've been joking about a stiff drink, but I'll actually go to the gym with my friend instead and hopefully turn my sleep schedule around as well as buy new clothes or at least do laundry. I need more business casual clothing, so I'll probably just go to JC Penny. Thank God I don't teach until 12:30pm tomorrow. I swear, I have a good teaching day followed by one where a student walks out on me (I mean he was ten mins late and I know he's taken the class before, but I still marked him absent; you can sit for 50 mins kid) and feel like I'm crashing and burning.

The good news is, this is the last week of "lecture" for those classes, then they just work on projects. I have a feeling I'll be much better at that part, since I'll have their attention.

I actually did do much better in my "tomorrow." Prepping makes all the difference.

hey man, I'm sorry you're having a rought time with school.  Well, practice makes perfect.  The longer you do it, the more experience you'll have and what you learn with earlier classes you can put to use with later ones. I'm sure it's pretty difficult dealing with all those students, but it's probably also building a lot of experience with you.

Keep at it!  Laughing

Yeah, the experience is invaluable if I want to get that doctorate.

Keep at it, and you'll get into that flow. I do like that you're bringing in a video just in case because college students, they forget. Props to you for marking him absent. I would have dropped him from the course, and bring in someone else who wants to be there, but that's just me.
