Platform: MS-DOS

Released: 1992

Developer: Interplay

Genre: Typing game

I remember playing this as a kid. It should be no surprise that Mario got a typing game; in the 90s all the famous kids characters had typing games, so why not Mario? The game itself did quite well, even getting a sequel. The game's story actually plays out as you type; Mario and Luigi make their way to Bowser's Castle. The faster you type, the faster they can move. On the negatives, the sound for the MS-DOS version is terrible; luckily, the PC version sounds much better. Also, the Mario sprite is a little off, especially since Mario is in a strange hunched position.

The main menu gives you five different modes to play, which includes overworld levels, underwater levels, and castle levels. You must beat the first levels before progressing, and the typing becomes more difficult. Overall, not a bad game, although it's a little painful to go back to it after all these years.

I remember the monkey toss game on MSDOS, also there was one on the Apple II that I use to play that was like Mario. Now I want to look that up, maybe you gave me an idea for tomorrow.?

Did you know that in high school, I took a typing class where we still had to use typewriters?  Granted, they were the fancier electronic typewriters, but I guess I was slightly too old to play this one.  With computers so commonplace now, I wonder if kids still have to learn how to type?

I think kids SHOULD learn how to type. It's a part of growing up and it's very important. True, smart phones might be a hindrance, but I think they should still learn.

I think typing is important to learn, too, and it was one of the most beneficial classes I took in high school.  I just wonder if since kids use computers at such a young age now if they just learn on their own without a class anymore?

I doubt he can type with those fluffy white gloves on!

I was into typing games around when I was learning typing through a Mavis Beacon program, which is great btw. I played Typing of the Dead on Dreamcast and Typer Shark on PopCap's web site. Mavis was better though. I can still touch type today thanks to just a few weeks of the Mavis Beacon program. Thanks Mavis!

Didn't know there was a typing game on Dreamcast. Did they have a funky keyboard come with it?

Yea, I still have mine.
