Buying ps2 games is sometimes more fun then playing them lol ok NOT!!!! but they are fun to buy,and I have a nice little collection but with me collecting i have this pet peave that just bugs the hell out of me and thats games with generic cases, i cant stand have a cool game disc only and I have this problem, I have Digital devil saga 1 and 2 and no case or manual for either I have one of my favorite ps2 games Soul Nomad and no case or manual and about 15 more with the same issue, then I have the dilema of getting another game with the case and manual or hunt online for someone selling the case and manual seperate from the game, and in all honesty im just convinced of giving the games away and getting them again with the case and manual, and then I could have contest on Pixlbit again and give out ps2 games with no manuals lol, Hey im good for it to just ask SMARTCELT if he got his skyrim game he won from me, one thing about me on here that I want you all to know my word is gold I dont bull crap around if I tell you im giving you something or you can win something I do deliver and thats me, im honest, and a family man with 4 kids and a wife and I may play around and all but if I say I will trust me I will ok enough of that now back to the subject at hand.

Now this is the old school ps2, and I swear by this system, I have had mine for 13 years it was released on October 26 2000 and I have the same one I bought on the release date, and in 5 years I have bought 5 xbox 360s 3 of which had the red ring of death and 2 that the cd ejection wouldnt open, so that tells you something about Sonys excellent system, now the Playstation which was released in 1994 and was the brainchild of Ken Kutaragi a Sony Executive who is considered the Father of the Playstation.  now a little known fact about the ps2 is directly after its release it was impossible to find one on store shelves they sold out in the first few hours of its release the only way to purchase it was on ebay which the units were going for a $1,000 and alot of this issue was due to people buying two or three units at a time and then selling them for double the amount they paid for them, so as you can see there has yet to be a release of any system that topped the ps2s launch.

The slim to me isnt as good as the original in my opinion but this is not facts just my personal opinion,of course im old scool and the fact I have had mine since the release and its out live all 5 of my 360s and my kids have had 2 ps2 slims and mine out lived them to,at any rate my main discussion with my ps2 games, im making a vow to only buy games with all the original packaging, the problem is I was at game shop when they were selling the ps2 games only and bought a bunch for like 3 to 12 bucks each, but i wanted to play the game right away and instead of being patient and buying it complete i went ahead and bought them incomplete, but now I know for sure full games only no more disc only.

my first PS2 I had for a while but it finally died and I got a silver slim.  It's kind of low profile, but it's okay.  I need to buy a new Logitech wireless controller though I lost mine and I will get back into Ps2 gaming myself, which I love.

Dont get me wrong the slims are good systems as well im just partial to the old school ones, and although im a huge 360 fan, nothing compares to the old ps2 and its funny cause ten years from now all of you who got back into ps2s because of me, will be glad you did cause even the systems are increasing in sales and Im sure this will be one of the most expensive systems and games in the future, and right now there all pretty affordable but they wont be watch what im saying.

well you're probably right about that.  I dunno how well the Ps3 will age but the original Xbox aged terribly, that thing is a hunk of junk.  the PS2 though is really robust and dependable.

I own a "classic" PS2 myself. No slim for me just yet. lol. It does seem like older consoles had more staying power aye,Matt?

My systems get TLC as well. I've had my PS2 for a LONG TIME. It's going to be sad when it finally goes. It was one of my favorite consoles ever.

I still have a "fat" PS2 that works. I've had two but the first one didn't die. Somehow after having mine for a year or so I was able to trade it for the "on line" pack, the one that came with the ethernet adapter and ATV Off Road Fury 2 (a game I never played).

After I got my PS3 I handed it down to my son and it still works to this day.

I've purchased my share of used PS2 games that came in the original packaging but lack the manual. I haven't gone as far as buying one disc only but I do have a couple of PS1 games in that condition mainly because like you I wanted to play the game and could not find it in better condition.

I totally understand.  I have that problem too.  I can also get cases & manuals from time to time.  I keep them, just in case I run into the games down the road.  From the ones I don't need, I usually give them away to friends that need them.  I currently own an extra case & manual for Mega Man X Collection (PS2) and Rule of Rose (PS2).  Do you own those games without the case and/or manual?

I thought I was the only one like that. I have pasted up many games just because they had no case or booklet. I take care of my games and keep everything together. Why can't others do it to?

well sadly gamestop actually threw all the ps2 cases away to make room for other plat forms i wish i would have found that trash bin lol.

I ended up letting my brother have my old fat PS2, got the new slim. Honestly I never liked the retractable disc tray, those thing alway end up screwing up. My only issue with the slims is that they will not work with the old multitap. But I'm a bit picky about cases and munuals. It has to have the original case or no deal. I can deal without a manual, but I prefer it to have the manual. Trivial as they may seem as time passes  those two items can drasticaly effect a games value. Example, I was trying to get a copy of TMNT Turtles in Time for SNES. For just the cart in good shape ran 12 to 15 bucks. Want it in good shape with the box and Manual, 35 to 50 bucks. I had a copy of Ninja Gaiden 2 I found at walmart in a bargin bin for $10. I sold it ten years later on ebay for $50, it was complete. Cartridge, black sleeve, box, manual, and a Tecmo mini poster.

Its great when you can make them last. I still have my one and only PS1 I got back in 97 right after I graduated, and it still works. Sadly my Gamecube petered out after just six years. Which is rediculous cause my SNES is probably twenty and still rockin.

Well the snes is another great system they were built to last and being that they were released in August 23rd of 1991 thats says alot and they very well could be the best system ever cause they had a library simular to the ps2 mmmmmm  now I want to know which one has the bigger library i think the ps2 does but not by many im sure.

My goodness, I remember the crazy second-hand prices revolving around the PS2's launch.  Some of it was quite hilarious, though, seeing PS2s listed for over a million dollars.  At least my brother got his at launch because he preordered it.  Sadly, his unit didn't last anywhere near as long as yours.  Meanwhile, my 2002 unit is still working, which is good considering all the PS2 games I need to play.

As for getting incomplete games, it's a necessary evil.  At that point you either play that game or you don't.  It's annoying, though, because you're left with those oddball games in your collection with no labeling (although you can find some here).  In regards to my PS2 collection, I only have one game like that - Stella Deus - and it bugs me.  Maybe Atlus will throw me a bone one day and reprint it.

Jeffrey thanks for that link now i printed the covers now if they would make manuals that simple lolLaughing

The Cover Project is amazing - I also recommend this site. Whenever I get games without cover art, I don't fret much because it's pretty easy to grab it from TCP and just reprint it at Office Depot or Staples for less than a dollar.

I also have put a selection of my GBA collection in hard DS cases and used their custom art. I'd like to convert them all to cases because it looks so sharp, but it does tend to get expensive, especially when you have a lot of games to put in the boxes.

Hey I must admit this site is very handy after having all of these pas2 titles with no sleeve just generic gamestop inserts it good to have my games at least look a little more uniformed.

I definitely remember when PS2s went flying off shelves too fast for most to get one. That launch was insane. I also remember systems being a lot sturdier; five 360s for the lifespan of one PS2?! That's sad, my Nintendo 64 is still working.

I have a couple used game boxes from Gamestop that either don't have the original cover, or have an art sleeve over the original, but at least they have A box, though I'm not sure about the manual. Those were gifts, so I was happy just to have a box, but I definitely see where you're coming from with wanting manuals and all intact, feels incomplete without 'em.

As for taking your word on game prizes, hey I trust you, I just don't know that I'm gonna win any of your trivia posts! lol

I have bought 4 360s since launch and only have one of them.  My ps3 died 5 years after I I bought it.  My ps2 should still be kicking.

well I heard the ps4 will be made by the same guy who made the ps2 and if so that may turn out to be the ps2s successor.

You most definitely are a man of your word. I've been enjoying the hell out of Skyrim since you gave me that. Sounds like you and I think alike on this PS2 generic game case thing. I cannot stand them and refuse to buy them. I'm just trying to send a message to Vintage Stock. They should stop buying raw disks from people. They probably give them a buck apiece foR them. Then stick em in generic cases and try to sell them for ten. I will not play their game. I go to pawn shops instead. I find some amazing games sometimes. I have the same PS2 I have always had. Got it on launch day and it still works fine.

Hey Jeffrey posted a good site to print your cover sleeve,he has a link above and I just printed 4 covers for games that had that stupid gamestop sleeve so at leaste they blend with my other games now lol.

Agreed

I tend to not buy any game without being complete. Unless the deal is too good to pass up..I think I will only buy if has the case and the game..Then maybe down the road I can pick up a manual.

Yeah I remember the ps2 launch. My older brother happen to reserve one and have it paid off, so since it was paid he was told he would get one for sure on day one!! Sony only had so many to go around. Man I want to say like 400,000 on lanuch date and that's it. Yep also remember going on ebay and checking out the prices..Man now that i think about it maybe he should have sold it and get some money out of it lol. But my brother nah thats ok i did not need the money. We used it more as a dvd player thou at first lol. I remember going to blockbuster and renting dvd when they just coming out..The guy looked at us and was like hey do you got a ps2?? I was like yeah why?? Cause you are renting dvd lol. And people who have a ps2 are now renting dvd lol

Send me a message or something if you're interested (to remind me) but I've been seriously considering getting rid of my empty cases and manuals with it to free up space.  I used to collect, but am putting everything in CD cases for convenience.  I also have complete PS2 drumset in original box (used) that I'm looking to get rid of.

I sent you a message on which ones I need the case for let me know if you have the ones i listed.

I hate getting incomplete games, too. It's even more frustrating when it's because you have to replace a complete game that you made the mistake of loaning out to someone and you never get it back, which is what happened with my copy of BG&E. As for systems - The only system that has crapped out on me has been a PS1. It was a third-hand hand-me-down that was bought at launch and it lasted until 2005.

leeradical42

03/27/2013 at 07:55 PM

thats not to bad but The snes and ps2 run a close match on the best system but because the ps2 library is a bit bigger thats the system I would go with.

I haven't given my PS2 up, lol. I still have every console I ever bought and the games to go woth them.
