BaD day 6: stream of consciousness

So, this blog a day thing is proving to be interesting. I have things I am planning to write, of course. Some writing exercises, some stabs at narrative, and of course some thoughts about video games and the industry/hobby as a whole. But on a day like this, right before bed? I don't have the foggiest about what to write. So I think I'm going to resurrect something I used to do on my live journal back in the day: random thoughts. Yep, I literally just thought about that as I was typing this intro.

1. How awesome is The Venture Bros.? My girlfriend and I have just finished watching all five seasons and were super excited to hear about season six, which started last week.

2. I am constantly sickened by the hipster/gentrification of my city. We were downtown today and I was once again reminded how much Austin really is just SoDoSoPa from the most recent season of South Park. Welcome home.

3. I'm listening to a Russian pop group called Ranetki as I type this. Thanks, GTA IV. (Vladivostok FM FTW!)

4. Casino Royale remains my favorite James Bond movie.

5. Crap, I have so much to do in the next three months to get myself all moved and settled.

6. I feel bad about backing out of social plans. More on that in a later blog.

7. I really want to do some traveling this year. I had hoped to take a trip to meet a bunch of the PixlBit staff, as well as former NWP co-host Rob, but I don't think it's gonna happen.

8. Remember You Can't Do That on Television? I've been waiting for a DVD release for years. I'd pay a fine price for it, too.

9. People who say that the current generation of consoles isn't very impressive hasn't been paying attention. Rise of the Tomb Raider looks incredible.

10. I think it's high time that I rewatched Can't Hardly Wait, which was my graduation movie. "It's all about the memories, man! All about the memories!"

Tomorrow: hopefully something meaningful, and not pointless filler.

Love me some Venture Bros. Haven't seen any of the new season yet though.

I used to watch You Can't Do That On Television a lot.  What a crappy show....

Man, I loved that show! I've looked up clips as an adult and still enjoy it. It was Laugh-In, but for kids in the 80s.

I loved it too.  Just sayin'.

Technically, no blog requirements on weekends for BaD. But it's nice to see anyway.

I loved my visit to Austin in 2012, but then again I am white and have some hipsterish tendencies? Don't have the money to live there though.

Too bad my Steam copy of GTA IV sucks and was the biggest pain in the dick to set up.

I like Skyfall best, but I'm ready for "dark" Bond to be over with, honestly. I get that it's more like the books, but I know Bond from the movies.

Most people who own the current generation of consoles have a PS4 and/or bought Fallout 4/CoD instead, so a poor-selling game released at the exact wrong time (next to Fallout 4 and CoD; dumb move publishers) on the less-popular console isn't going to draw lots of attention. Can't wait to play it on my PS4 though. Tongue Out

Hmm. I hadn't heard that Rise had sold poorly. Looking into it, it seems like the game sold a million units in its first month. While that is lower than the 2013 game it is on a single platform that isn't the industry leader. I think it will end up doing just fine over the game's life, and it certainly deserves to.

Is 1 million enough to cover its costs though? The 3.5 million was below expectations for the original.

I'm sure it will do well over its life span, since the original eventually sold over 8 million, but until it hits PS4, it is culturally irrelevant and deserves to be, Hail Sony.

I remember You Can't Do That on Television.  A lot of Nickelodeon staples started out with that show (like green slime).  It probably wasn't a very good show, but I watched it a lot as a kid because I didn't know any better.

I sometimes think that the reputation of places like Austin, Portland, San Fransisco, etc, of being politically correct leftists hipster cities can be exaggerated.... but then I see new stupidity coming from universities in places like those and it makes me worried about the future of your country if it's going to be ran by overly sensitive pricks who think the word idiot is ableist and will probably form a massive protest just for a crudely drawn nazi swastika graffiti.
