Weekend at Mothman's

In which I clean up the game room (somewhat), play some Nocturne and Twilight of the Spirits.

I disconnected the Wii after I hooked up the Wii U and transferred all my digital Wii purchases over to it. The process was slow but painless but once it was over I had no further need for the Wii.

The drive is too old and noisy to play Gamecube games on but my Gamecube is still in working order so I can hook that up if I feel so inclined.

So last weekend I finally put the power supply, video cables and sensor in the closet with the Wii. Seems I couldn't be bothered to do anything but disconnect the Wii from its cables and put it away. So now my snakes nest of wires is a few snakes fewer.

Nocturne

Once I disconnected the Wii's component cables there was room on my new TV to plug in my PS2 so I did. Once hooked up I started SMT Nocturne from the beginning and played for an hour. Nocturne starts of slowly so I haven't really done anything yet. I may play more but it's a long ass RPG requiring much grinding and demon fusion. We'll see.

Twilight of the Spirits

I also tossed in Arc The Lad Twilight of the Spirits which is one of my favourites. It's a strategy RPG that doesn't feel like a strategy RPG. I played for a couple of hours and loved it once again.

That's it for today. Keep calm and panda on.

I still need to buy a new GCN controller, but I have such SHIT luck w/ ones sold in stores. But a new Nintendo one is surprisingly expensive on Amazon.

Very nice. I still have my Wii next to my Wii U, they make such a cute couple I could not seperate them.

I thought I had that Arc the Lad game but I just checked and I don't. Must have picked it up and looked at it in GameStop a couple years ago but then not bought. This makes me sad...

You should have bought it. One of my most enjoyed PS2 RPGs

I disconnected my Wii from my TV area about a year ago, and I just did the same thing about a month ago with my 360.

That's good that you can transfer Virtual Console purchases from the Wii to Wii-U. I was wondering about that. Also, Arc the Lad: TotS looks pretty cool.

Yep, it also recognizes the Wii games you own in the Wii U eShop and offers them at a discount if you want to buy them to play on the Wii U instead of having to go to the Wii menu every time. Looked to be about $1.50 a game but I'm not that lazy.

The only problem with the Wii emulator is it is subject to the same restrictions as the Wii. It can only use Wii internal memory or an SD card. You can't save anything to your hard drive.

Twilight of the Spirits is very good.

I'm glad that everything got moved over to the WiiU but its kind of sad to see the Wii get moved to storage. Of course while I type that I have a Genesis, SNES, and NES sitting in storage too. I'm curious did you just redownload the games from Nintendo or is there a type of transfer cable from the Wii to WiiU? I'm asking just in case I ever get a WiiU

You do it via a combination of having both devices on the internet and an SD card. Some games and saves are there when you finish and some you need to redownload once it has authorized you. The Wii U has an icon for the Wii menu which is where you go to run everything. Looks just like you are on a Wii.

Oh ok, that does sound painless.

I'm still not brave enough to transfer all my Wii save files to the Wii U, mostly due to keeping memory on the Wii U and some things about my Wii I had never mentioned on any site.

Well to your first point it doesn't affect memory on the Wii U side. It will only use designated Wii memory and an SD card for game storage. Totally isolated. But yeah if you've hacked your Wii I wouldn't try it. :)
