Shin Megami Tensei has a knack for making some of the best RPGs ever made and Nocturne is no different, its the third main game in the series, and was developed by Atlus and published by Atlus.
The player takes control of a half human, half demon, silent protagonist whom the player names. The protsgonist is often refered to as the demon-feind or Hitoshura in the Japanese version, Nocturne has a turned based system in place, the player is assigned press turns equal to the size of your party, although a special event allows the player to gain an extra press turn and can re use some of them by scoring critical hits or exploiting elemental weaknesses. In contrast, if the attack is nulified or reflected, the player loses some or all of there press turns based on the severity of the defense, this also applies to the opposing side. it also has an alighnment system, theres two factions of law and chaos in opposition with the player choosing to ally one side the conflict. the player could also follow the path of Neutrality.
The battle system functions like traditional RPGs turn based combat, but with one key exception, Nocturne introduced a new element in the form of press turns. Each character participating in combat, freind and foe alike, provides one or more press turns, represented in the right hand corner of the above screen as icons, a key theme in Nocturne is that of demon conversation\negotiation. since the demi-feind can only normally have one press turn by himself, he must gain allies to fight alongside him in order to have a better chance of survival. Demon negotiation is a unique system in which the speaker usually but not always, the demon feind tries to persuade an enemy demon to join there party.
Shin Megami Tinsei is a very well known,to the rpg world and is very well know to thoughs who collect games from the series, Nocturne is a very good, long and in depth rpg, and in my opinion in a league of its own, The graphics in Nocturne is georgeous to some times foggy but for the ps2 genere its very very good and again i would love to see a HD remake of this game. The soundtrack is your typicle Shin Megami Tensei music which in my opinion is always great and the voice acting is also done very well but with most of SMT games the music and voice acting is top notch and great. The gameplay is a little tough at first but with all of SMT you will pick it up and be moving right along with the game the story is one of the best points in this game and is very well written and will keep you interested and as usual this game can easily eat away over 80 hours of your life to beat. This is an RPG that you cant miss and if you want a long great rpg then this is the the game for you. awesome game. [4.5 \ 5]
