I've never heard of it, but yeah, I think there are already a lot of mobile games with this same concept.
Mario Spin-off Games #9--UNDAKE30 Same Game Taisakusen Mario Version

Platform: Super Famicom
Released: 1995
Developer: Hudson Soft
Genre: Puzzle
Obviously, this one was released only in Japan. The Japanese title means "Undake 30 Shark-Turtle Battle Mario Version." As with other Japan-only games, this one used the Super Famicom mouse. It's quite simple: you click on different Mario icons, such as coins, Mario heads, and Yoshi eggs in order to clear them. Two or more of the same icon must be touching in order to clear. When they clear, the icons which are above will fall down. Your goal is to clear as many as you can. There is also an undo move so you can go back if you made a mistake.
This is a very casual game, one which would be right at home on the mobile market. I'm not sure why they couldn't release it over here, especially since the entire game is in English. Perhaps they thought it wasn't "cool" enough for Americans. If you watch the video below, you'll notice how simple and addicting this game could be.
