I stayed away from this one because it looked like it would be really hard to play on such a small screen. There is a Picross 3D game on DS that is really good, and Japan just got a sequel to it on the 3DS. I hope we get that one, too.

Platform: Game Boy
Released: 1995
Developer: Jupiter, Ape
Genre: Puzzle
This addicting puzzle game uses nonograms: a type of puzzle where you fill in squares to reveal a hidden picture (similar to Sudoku). Mario broadens his careers as he becomes an archaeologist for this fun Game Boy title (bet you never thought you'd see Mario in that role). Mario chisels away at ancient tablets and the such like to reveal pictures. You must work quickly and efficiently as the puzzles are timed. The pictures mostly include Mario characters, but some also reveal food, animals, and objects.
The game features 64 different puzzles in four different categories: Easy Picross, Konoko, Star, and Time Trial. That's a total of 256 puzzles, which will keep you busy for awhile. The game received a couple sequels in Picross 2 (released only in Japan) and Mario's Super Picross (for Super Famicom, also Japan-only). This beloved Game Boy classic is also available on the 3DS Virtual Console.
