Hello everyone, how are you?

Last time I talked about the original Playstation, this time we are going further ahead and talk about the Playstation 2. I don't remember when I heared about the Playstation 2 first exactly, but I think it may have been from my best friend. He said he had one and that the games looked better than the PS1 and N64. I still had an N64 and was astounded at the idea of games that looked better than what we already had. I was a kid at the time and thought games couldn't possibly get any better right?

PS2

I think it was a while later, maybe 2-3 years later that my folks and I took a trip to visit my mom's cousin in Northern California. He had a son around my age, not sure if that makes us cousins or something. He had a Playstation 2 and I was introduced to Spyro there. Not sure which though but it was definitely one of the PS1 Spyro games. He showed me that and Gran Turismo, except I didn't know how to play that one well.

He told me if I wanted to play a PS2 game, the thing is I don't remember what PS2 game it was, I think it may have been a Tony Hawk game? I don't know. I didn't remember that much, but definitely had fun with Spyro. I brought my Gamecube with me along with this portable tv that attached to the console and even folded like a GBA SP screen and I brought Melee with me as well as Wind Waker as I was currently playing that. My little brother brought with him Hot Wheels: Velocity X and Smuggler's Run: Warzone. His older brother actually played some Hot Wheels wih us which ws fun as well as with Melee.

Gamecube

Later on, my cousin next door got a PS2 and had GTA: Vice City. I had actually played a GTA game previously, I think it may have been at my uncles house, the one that let me try Crash. I remember not being very good at it. I decided to give Vice City a go. It was a blast, just getting on cars and just messing around in the city.

I remember my cousin's older brother told me he knew a cheat for a tank, he got wanted in the game as soon as he started using it. Everything the tank touched exploded and the police was after him. He made a huge mistake getting out of the tank because he go instantly arrested. It was hilarious. Then he put a cheat to make the cars fly which was fun, and he tried it on the tank again, it didn't work. Then there was this cheat to make cars go on the water I think? It worked and he decided to try it out on the tank again, and can you guess what happened? He fell inside the water as soon as he went in. It was funny. I'm not sure if he had to input a certain cheat in first, but it never worked out well.

GTA Vice City Tank

But the best one was one time my cousin was playing Vice City, he said he restarted the game and was at one point were the protagonist guy came outside a car on a bridge? Not sure and he input the cheat for the tank. It never spawned, and as soon as he went outside the car, it fell on top of the car and he was like wtf. It was really more funny because he instanlty failed the mission as it killed the npc inside the car. They always did really stupid things.

Eventually he got more games. I remember he once rented DBZ Budokai and was astounded at a DBZ game. I eventually got it on the Gamecube which was nice, but he had already moved on to Budokai 3 by then. It was tons of fun and there was even characters I had never seen before. I thinkwe once played San Andreas and it was tons of fun like Vice City. We never did any story missions, we just fooled around doing stupid things in those games. I think he said he was looking for bigfoot or something, but never found him. Never knew what that was about. I think we even played Tony Hawk's Underground 2, which was tons of fun. My older cousin was into racing games like Midnight Club, but never played that.

It was at my cousin's house that I had my first online console gaming experience. Not sure if it was a CoD game, or Soccom game? I don't remember, all I remember is that you were shooting other people, it was more squad based as you and a team of other players had to take down AI opponents. It was neat and he even had a headset and you could hear other people say, the enemy went that way, or shoot em down before they get away. I think I remember taking down one of them and everyone was way to go, you fragged that noob! or something/ It was really fun and a whole different experience. I told my cousin how gaming has come so far if we can play and communicate with other people from far away. He told me it was nothing special as he played it all the time. But for me, it really was special.

One thing I did notice about my cousin is that almost every time I went, his PS2 changed size. Back then, he had this big one, then it was slimmer, then it was this really small one. I remember he said he sometimes had to play the smaller one upsidedown. He told me that his brother once broke the first one by putting in a music cd in it. The second one not so sure.

Halo 3

That is really how I got to experience the PS2 for a long time. I think eventually my cousin's older brother got an Xbox 360 to play Halo 3 but I never got a chance to try that back then. I knew of Halo somewhat because I used to know a girl back in the 7-8th grade who loved it. But that was it.

So that is my experience with the Playstation 2. It had a long lifespan, that's for sure. What was your first PS2 experience? Thanks for reading and...

I remember thinking The Bouncer was as good as things were ever going to get graphically. People hate on that now, but my next door neighbors and I played it all the time. We once tried beating it despite having no memory card and uh ... well, I'll have to tell that story another time.

I actually rented PS2 from Blockbuster a couple times before my brother bought one and I bought a Gamecube for myself.

I never did like Sims like Gran Turismo, and I remember the PS2 one only having that one Lenny Kravitz song. Song is fine, just not ad nauseum like that.

I actually got annoyed by watching other people play GTA just with the side stuff, cause I wanted to see missions. I guess even in open worlds, I'm just a linearly-minded gamer.

I think you're about SOCOM: U.S. Navy Seals, as I remember that being HUGE for its online experience.

I was an Xbox gamer back then because of Halo. My friend had it, so I played everything there. I did want  the other systems for their exclusives though. I got a Gamecube for those Star Wars Rogue Squadron games. I forget what game got me to get a PS2 though. I know later it was God Hand and Okami, but I had one before that. I played Culdcept on it for sure, but that was later too. Maybe Killzone or Ratchet & Clank.  Anyway, I eventually saw this silver slim PS2 and had to have it, and that's the one I use now for all my PS and PS2 games.

I didn't get a PS2 right when it came out because it was hard to find,  But around springtime of that next year, I had one.  I was still reviewing games for the newspaper so I reviewed a lot of games on it, too.  Definitely have a lot of good memories with the PS2.

I bought my PS2 well after launch and my first game was Primal. I love that game despite how glitchy it was. I sold my physical copy but have replaced it with digital. My next prominent memory would be Final Fantasy X
