 BaD #22

Hello Pixlbit, how are you? The 90's were really awesome in my opinion. One of the things I remember the most was the animated movies of the era. There were so many, notably from Disney and those movies are classics. I don't think I've ever made a list of my favorite 90's animated films.

Well, here are my favorite 90's animated movies...

A Goofy Movie

A Goofy Movie: I remember watching Goof Troop as a kid and really liked it. It was really fun watching those characters a bit more older on film. A Goofy Movie is a movie about Goofy and his son Max, who is now in High School. It is the last day before summer vacation and Max wants this girl he likes to notice him and go out with him. He puts on a stage performance at his school's auditorium and succeeds somewhat, but when Goofy plans a father-son vacation, goofy hijinx ensues. I really like this movie, one of the most memorable things about it is the music in it. It definitely feels very 90's and I think it might be the most underrated movie on this list and one of Disney's as well.

Animaniacs

Animaniacs Wakko's Wish:  I freakin' love the Animaniacs. The show was so hilarious and it's even more better now than it was then. Give it a rewatch now and see how many adult jokes you can find. I'm not sure where the movie exactly falls into with the show, but it has the Animaniacs and the other characters in it so it has to be good. The movie is about Yakko, Wakko, and Dot. They live in a village stricken with poverty and Dot needs an operation. Wakko makes a wish and a wishing star falls within distance and whoever touches it gets one wish granted. Everyone and a greedy king catches news of it and everyone races towards the wishing star. It has all the Animaniacs humor we all know and love. Unfortunately, the movie was only released on vhs, but I think it might be on youtube.

Toy Story 2

Toy Story 2: The only cgi animated film on the list. I remember when the first one came out, it was really good and had never seen such a movie at the time. Of course I was excited when they announced a sequel. I remember my friends and I talking about it and saying how it was better than the first. Toy Story 2 is mostly centered around Woody as one day he gets stolen by a toy collector while trying to rescue a toy from a yardsale. Buzz and some of the toys from Andy's room go on a journey to rescue him. Toy Story 2 is one of those rare movies where the sequel surpasses the original. It's a very great movie.

The Iron Giant

The Iron Giant: As I may have said before, I love giant robots. I remember watching this as a kid and loved it so much. The movie takes place in 1950's America during the whole Sputnik thing and one day a giant robot from space crash lands on a small town in Maine. A boy named Hogarth finds and befriends the giant robot, all while trying to keep the giant out of sight and out of trouble, especially with a government official nosing around. If there is one thing kids want is a giant robot of their own, this movie does that just right and more. It's funny, heartwarming, and shows us a different time about how an Atomic Bomb strike could happen at any given moment. It holds up very well and it is considered a classic. It gives me a sort of Fallout vibe now. It go a Blu-ray rerelease not that long ago, so now you have no excuse not to watch it.

Pokemon

Pokemon the 1st Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back: Pokemon was a cultural phenomenon in the 90's and you bet we were all excited when we found out about a Pokemon motion picture. This one might be more difficult to explain to non-Pokemon people but I'll try my best. Ash one day receives an invitation to a place called New Island to challenge the strongest trainer in the world, as well as other trainers. Ash sees that as an offer he couldn't refuse so he and his friends set course to new island during terrible weather. When they arrive there, not all is what it seems as they find out that the strongest trainer in the world is none other than a Pokemon. I really love this movie and also has some deep messages for being a kids film. It recently was available to stream for free, not sure if it's still up though.

 Batman

Batman: Mask of the Phantasm: I remember seeing this as a kid as well and loved it. The story is that Batman is being framed for murders across Gotham's powerful crime lords by a mysterious entity dressed in black. The movie also dives deep into Bruce Wayne's past before he became Batman, and he almost abandoned his crusade on justice when he meets the love of his life. This is a really fantastic movie and I remember when I watched Batman Begins a long time ago, some things seemed familiar. When I watched this film again it became clear that there are similarities between the films. I know that both borrow material from the Batman: Year One story, but I saw Phantasm first, so I'll compare it to that. There are some really great moments, especially when Bruce dons his cowl for the very first time, and Alfred's remark to that. Definitely a movie I recommend.

The Lion King

The Lion King: I think this might of been the very first movie, or animated film I remember seeing as a kid. Or at least one of the first. I remember seeing it in theaters I think, as I do remember a giant screen. Everyone knows what this movie is about so I'll spare describing it, because I know I'll do a terrible job at it. This might be by far my most favorite Disney animated film. It's just that good. The story, the visuals, the music, everything. It has adult themes in it like drama, death, and whatnot but they handle these themes so well that anyone can watch it. Everything it does it does well. I enjoyed things like Aladdin and Tarzan and more but this is my favorite Disney animated movie overall and to me this is their pinnacle of their 90's animation. This is one I can't recommend enough if you haven't seen it.

So, what are your favorite 90's animated movies? Thanks for reading and...

I think Lion King may have been my first movie in theaters as well. Couldn't say for sure.

I started going to movies again sometime late in the 90s and saw the following animated films:

Wallace & Gromit A Close Shave (favorite)
Beavis and Butt-Head Do America
Antz
A Bug's Life
South Park: Bigger Longer & Uncut

Later I saw some of the ones on your list like Batman and Toy Story.

The Lion King was my brother Jeff's first Disney movie, so it is pretty special.

Iron Giant is good, but there was one thing that didn't sit right with me, but I won't go into it here.

Just about anything Pixar does is good.  Toy Story 2 is one of my favorites from them.

Wakko's Wish was kind of the series finale for Animaniacs.  They pretty much made that movie for the fans, and it was good.  Sadly, it only got a VHS release.  Animaniacs is one of my all time favorite cartoons, too.

I never liked Goof Troop, but the SNES game Capcom made of it was awesome.

Lots of Studio Ghibli films from the 90's were awesome, too.
