Binary Domain: Rise Of The Robots?

Binary Domain was a sweet $9.00 on Amazon! I just couldn't resist that. I've been wanting to try the game for awhile because it seems like Gears Of War meets Terminator & Isaac Asimov. (Sorry Red Dead Redemption and Witcher II. You're both gonna have to wait a tad longer!)

Apparently there are branching story paths based on your trust rating with each of your squad mates and there's even a bit of romance. (With a bad-ass beautiful female sniper no less! I love my tom-boys!)

I figure getting a good game this cheap will give me more cash to spend on my best friend's birthday.

Anyway, I look forward to blasting apart many robots! Have you played this sleeper gem? Let me know,ya'll!

It's really too bad this game didn't do better than it did. It was a good game.

I concur, it seems to be the fate of many original & solid games this generation. See what you've done? I'm sad now!

I recently finished the game and put up a short blog on here. Spoiler free!

Link Here: Binar Domain surprisingly good!

Thanks man, I'll read & reply!

Yup, and from the trailer asrealasitgets posted, I thought it looked amazing, and actually had a cool, clean aesthetic for its future, as opposed to the ugly greys and browns and blacks usually put together to make ruins in dystopic future games.

Can't pass up $9, too bad I don't have a computer or anything else that could play it.

The low price really jumped out,Joe! Besides, it'll be pleasant to fight robots instead of zombies or terrorists! Gotta mix it up sometimes, aye?

You know, there really aren't enough games about robots anymore. Maybe once the craze with zombies dies down (there are some great jokes waiting in that phrase lol), robots will get some more time in the sun. Regardless, $9 is an awesome price. I hope to play this game someday too.

I'm finally getting tired of zombies. Took me awhile to get there but here I am! lol. The thought of going up against robots (some who even look & act like us) is a chilling and intriguing concept for me. Sorta makes you realize ANYONE can be a machine and even if they are, you're not going to know about it right away. The problem with zombies is once a person is 100% infected we know right away they've "changed". Not so with hollow children.

The possibility that anyone could be a robot and what it really means to be human are certainly fascinating topics. They're what lie at the heart of Philip K. Dick's classic book Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? and its loose (but excellent) movie adaption Blade Runner.

Makes you wonder why we haven't gotten more of these types of games. Maybe because people would start to be afraid of technology? lol.

I've seen it at the store before at a great price. Should really pick it up. Always been curious about the storyline.

Most people say the story line is the best part,Celt. It definitely perked my curiosity! Besides I like the concept of "rogue robots". It's pretty under used in 3rd person shooters. (Which kind of surprises me given our love for movies like Terminator & Blade-runner.)

I've been stalking Binary Domain on Amazon as well. How did you get it for $9? It's still in the $15-17 range on my wish list.

It could have been one of those "lightning deals". You might also be able to find it cheaper through alternative vendors on the amazon site.

That one guy is really copping a feel...and that is all I have to say about Binary Domain. Hope you like. Oh and get The Witcher 2 over RDR. It's amazing and has a story branch which makes it like two games in one.

I played Wicher II on my pc as much as I could after I got it off GOG. I loved it up until the tentacle monster boss QTEs didn't register my inputs. I don't blame the game. My pc barely met the system requirements, so yeah!

Needless to say, I'll enjoy it much more on the 360!

Maybe if there were some silly cute robots.

There's always Rachet & Clank, bro. lol. It's too bad it's a sony exclusive yet here I am with my 360. Oh well, I'll probably buy a PS3 someday when everyone else is moving onto "the next gen of console gaming".

you can rarely go wrong with a $9 videogame, unless its duke nukem forever.

BrokenH

It's cool if some people got enjoyment outta Duke Nukem Forever. I will not rain on their collective parade! However, based on what I saw it just isn't the right Duke game for me.

Even some of the humor in Saints Row The 3rd rubs me the wrong way but I could probably overlook it if the game itself was fun enough.

However, even when my preferences are different I try not to "blitz out" and go into kooky "Boycott this game!" territory. (Unless it's as terrible as Custard's Revenge)

I will not disagree with you.  Everyone has their own taste, and there is nothing wrong with that.  i did pick up duke nukem forever for about 9 bucks, but gave up after getting about 1/3rd of the way through the game.

Sorry it went "bust". lol. Ah well, at least $9.00 wasn't much of a sacrifice!

I have always wanted to pick up this game and just havent yet. I dont know why either, I at one point was keeping track of it and liked everything I saw. I think I'll have to change that soon. I hope your enjoying it!

It's just there are so many shooters already! It's easy for a game to get lost in the shuffle when it's apart of a genre that is so over crowded.

This game simply stands out for me because I haven't really experienced the equivalent of a good Terminator game this generation.

smartcelt

You did get a great deal. Saw it for PS3 at Wal Mart last night for 30 bucks! What the hell? Guess it's worth it for a good game, though.

BrokenH

I'll probably do a review on Binary Domain,Celt! The game clocks in at around 9-10 hours so it's "generous" but not ridiculously long either.

Maybe my humble contribution will help you decide if it's worth $30.00 or not.

Glad you found a great deal Ben! And, just throwing this out there, not meaning to go all Kanye West on you, but... Riza Hawkeye is the greatest female sniper of all time! OF ALL TIME!!! She got the va-da-boom!

BrokenH

03/29/2013 at 05:54 PM

Riza is pretty bad ass! That reminds me, I should get back to watching Full Metal Alchemist again!

If you catch it on Toonami Saturday nights, you can start with episode 20 tomorrow night. Downside is, last week's episode was Mustang scorching Lust to death, which was awesome, so you missed that. What I love about that part, is some of the symbolism in it. Mustang is a bit of a womanizer and playboy, and he has to face Lust head-on and keep on knocking it down again and again before he finally conquers it. Thinking on it, there's actually a lot of symbolism with who kills which Homunculi.

BrokenH

The Homunculi were certainly scary adversaries. When I first watched Full Metal Alchemist it seemed pretty light hearted despite the fates of the two brothers. However, it got darker & deeper as it went along.
