GLaD 28: Ocarina of Time 3DS Demo & BR Thursday

I'm aware it's now Friday. This was written out completely and had the first video added at 4PM yesterday, but my laptop was crapping out on me, and having been awake since 7PM the day before, I passed out and woke up at 12AM today to find my laptop still being a POS. I restarted it after grabbing some stuff to eat, getting a shower and a couple other things, and it seems to be working now, so here we are.

Bing Image Mad Libz:

Hollywood actor Sean Penn and Atlanta Housewives star Porsha Stewart must team up to defeat the evil flannel moth larva using only a giant slingshot requiring two people to operate. After a while though, a nearby fairy giving advice grates on their nerves so damn much, they decide to kill it instead and let the flannel moth larva eat it. It is then confirmed that Navi tastes more like beef than chicken to the evil flannel moth larva.

So after I returned my Blu-Ray of Cinderella Man (my mom got it for me for my birthday as it's my favorite movie, but we have no Blu Ray Player, and my older brother had already bought the DVD for my dad a while back, so it was in the house the whole time anyway) and picked up Everclear's Icon (basically Greatest Hits) CD, I noticed a Vita at the Best Buy in which I made my exchange. The Vita would not turn on.

Oh well, who needs Vita when you get all these Everclear classics for $6.99 + tax?

Then I made my way over to the 3DS, and decided to play Ocarina of Time 3D's demo to pass some time and see how different it really looked. A lot, actually. The textures on Link, the Deku Tree and the environment all look noticeably better and more rounded, as opposed to jagged, which oddly enough the first boss Gohma still kind of was, but I'm sure you all know that by now.

"He's got the jaggies and the jiggies, and he's a goin' down the slope!"

- Bill Cosby

The 3D effect was cool, but didn't add that much to the experience, as I was having to move the 3DS around to keep from seeing double images and let my eyes adjust quite a bit. What was cool was being able to select everything from the touch screen menu, which made things a lot easier and faster, though I only used my sword and slingshot, which felt relatively natural, though I'd have mapped the buttons differently. I beat Gohma quick and it was over.

Gohma: Showing His Lack of Support for Social Media Trends with his Final Breath

Have I ever mentioned that text and text boxes always seem to have the most impressive 3D effects going for them. I don't always notice the effect on anything else in the frame, but man, text sure does pop out at you.

It's like the words just pop right out at you!

After that demo I watched a promo video for the new Luigi's Mansion game, and played a bit of the brain puzzle game's demo, where I had to memorize an answer to a math problem, then answer it as another one was being shown. Yup. That was all the gaming I did today. I also stopped at the WiiU kiosk, but like with Vita, power button pressing was futile. Why have these things out at all, I wonder.

And now, I'm going to go crazy and post one song from every Bad Religion album I happen to really like or is my favorite from that album, starting with "Part III" from How Could Hell Be Any Worse? You wonder how Thursday came to be BR Thursday? Basically, I've seen R represent Thursday on some calendars to differentiate it from Tuesdays more easily, and I really like Bad Religion. Pretty much it.

And now for a little more positivity, and a lot more 80s keyboard, here's "Only Over When..." from Into the Unknown.

From the album that defined them as godfathers of punk, and brought the "oozin' ahs" to punk rock choruses everywhere, Suffer, this one is "Land of Competition"

From my favorite album of theirs from the 80s, here's "No Control" off No Control. I control what songs go here.

You would have had to go Against the Grain at one point to combat "The Flat Earth Society" and their ridiculous claims; it's necessary to do sometimes

I know I said I was going to post from each of their albums in here, but I'm sympathetic to slow computers, and I think five videos on the page will slow down your computer enough. Look forward to more BR songs next blog though, most likely. Cool Oh hell, have one more for your path Along the Way.

I haven't gotten the Ocarina game on 3DS yet.  I played it to death on other systems, and the 3D effect is lost on me, since I've been blind in my left eye since birth.  But I may get it eventually.

Even without the effect, the character figures and environment do look clearly better and less jagged, plus being able to switch items more quickly is a welcome touch, so though I played it on both N64 and Gamecube, on a disc that came with the Master Quest edition I got for pre-ordering Wind Waker,  I think once the price was right and I got a 3DS, I'd pick it up, personally.

I agree the updates to Ocarina look great, even without the 3D. I just played that game too much and couldn't make my way through it again. I gave it to my nephew.  He seemed to like it. It was his first Zelda.

It was more or less my first Zelda as well. I never got into Link to the Past, just watched other people play it and wasn't really interested. Honestly, I didn't play through OoT until much later in the N64's life. Nice to see it being enjoyed by further generations.

I think people will enjoy Ocarina for a long time.  It's got great mechanics, but what I really think makes it timeless is its heart.  I love the ending of that game.

I hate the current 3D trend. Like Cary, I have vision issues and 3D is lost on me. When I can see it, it just gives me a headache.

I like it occasionally, but with this game, I don't think you need it, it's still an improvement on the original.

So far, the best use of it is Star Fox 64 3DS I think. I just think the 3D is very overrated. I never play with it on.

I like it, but I can definitely see why people don't. Not sure how long I'd use it outside a kiosk setting.
