OCR Spotlight: A Clockwork Vampire

Okay, so I intended to post this yesterday (Wednesday) but I completely spaced it. I blame that on BioShock Infinite, frankly, which I haven't had that much time to play yet but so far it's really good. And writing this at all is cutting into my playing time, lol, so let's make this quick!

A Clockwork Vampire

From: Castlevania III

Remixed by: Dhsu

This classic solo piano remix starts out with a slow, fairly simple rendition of the clock tower music from Castlevania III but at 1'29" starts to speed up breezes through the melody again before diving head first into "Vampire Killer" from the first Castlevania. The melodies may not be changed from the originals but an interesting left hand and variations in chords keep the song fresh. Things wrap up with a brief return to the clock tower. It's a great remix, one of the first I discovered when I found OCR and still one of my favorites. Give it a listen, you won't regret it. And if you need me, I'll be in Columbia.

Yeah, having OCR do the SFII HD soundtrack was a great acknowledgement and inclusion of the fanbase by Capcom. Of course, then they cancelled Mega Man Legends 3, so maybe they don't know what they're doing after all Undecided

Thanks for listening!

Colombia? Say hi to alexc25 for me! The hell did he go, anyway? I really wish he'd come over to Pixlbit.

Anyway, I'm a huge fan of piano, so this was absolutely great! Thanks for posting. I kept thinking it would turn into "Bloody Tears," just cause I associate piano and Castlevania with that one since I heard it covered that way on Youtube. I wasn't familar with the clocktower theme though, so it was nice to hear something new to me. Great song. Really liked how it segued into "Vampire Killer" towards the end, as you said.

And I'm a big fan of the Anthony Burgess book A Clockwork Orange, so the title was awesome to me as well. Cool

Glad you liked it! Yeah, the transitions are really good and the remixer did a great job of building from the clock tower theme into Vampire Killer.

I've wondered about Alex too but that's not the Columbia I was referring to. That's what the city in BioShock Infinite is called and that's where I was going lol

Ooooh. I have yet to play a Bioshock title, though they do look awesome. My bad. lol

Castlevania always had great music. That tends to be a staple of all of Konami's franchises. Nice remixes here!

Castlevania music is great which is one of the reasons I'm not a big fan of the Lords of Shadow reboot actually. They took one of the signature aspects of the franchise--strongly melody-driven music--and turned it into this ambient movie soundtrack thing. If LoS had been its own game unrelated to the franchise I would have thought the soundtrack was fine. But this is Castlevania! *gets down off soapbox*
