I honestly dont know if the 3rd one will ever be made but i do wonder if their worried it wont do well especially if it doesnt meet the standard that people would expect it to.

Unfortunately, I don't feel like we'll ever see Half Life 3. Both Half Life 1 and Half Life 2 changed the fps genre - Half Life changing the fps campaign from arcade gore romp to a cohesive adventure with a narrative, and Half Life 2 bringing a proper physics engine, the source engine, and Steam. I feel like Valve feels the need to innovate again with Half Life 3 if they ever put it out.
Honestly, as much as I love these games, I'd have been okay with 2 being the last one. But it wasn't. There were two episodes, one of which ended on a cliffhanger. Which is a dick move.
I agree with Blake-- they should have left it at Half Life 2 and given it a proper ending. NOW WE"LL NEVER KNOW WHAT HAPPENS!!
Well, they could at least do a remastered collection of HL1, 2 and its additional episodes for current gen consoles. Like another Orange box. Maybe with some new small games in there.
