I heard some good things about Rise again this week on IGN's Podcast Unlocked. I put it on my list to play sometime.

Good morning Pixlpeeps! It is a nice cool and a little damp Southern California, but that isn’t a bad thing for a place that is hurting for more water. I made the most of the weekend by staying under the back porch while it rained for a bit. I took my laptops (the mini one day and the full size the other day) and enjoyed the cool weather, and maybe took a nap. Anyways on Sunday I decided to do this but instead of watching Netflix on the mini laptop, I decided to try and play some games. My plan worked for about an hour before the sun peeked through some clouds and it was tough to see what I was playing. It was fun while it lasted. Anyways here are some games I’ve been playing.
Chris Takes A Couple From Mount Backlog
Lego Marvel Avengers: Ant-Man DLC – PS4
I think this was supposed to be the PS3/PS4 exclusive DLC and it arrived on Tuesday, and I made sure to have it in my download box (thanks PS app) but I didn’t play it until I think either Thursday or Friday. The DLC itself is like previous Lego DLC where the narrator takes a comedic tone to set up the storyline which is usually the length of one level with a boss at the end. They take about two playthroughs to get everything and earn the five trophies. Ant-Man was ok, but what I really enjoyed about this was the new way to solve puzzles, and I get an additional five characters for free play.
Ryse: Son of Rome – Steam
I finally got passed the one section that was giving me grief and it turns out the fix was easy. During gameplay instead of using the PS3 controller, I instead used the mouse and on the first try I accomplished what was my most frustrating part of the game. After that I went back to the controller and finished off the final two sections and finishing the game. The game overall is fine. I got what I wanted out of it: Decent story, tons of action, although it got repetitive, and the environment was fantastic to look at. Ryse is such an awesome game, and was a steal at the $5 I paid for it. I give it an A.
Other Games I Played
Tomb Raider – Steam
I thought it would be fun to play this game while sitting outside while it was raining. I am almost at 50% in the game (from what I remember from the PS3 version) and for this game I decided to bump the graphics down from Ultra to High so I can get the full 60 fps everyone talks about. Lara seemed to move much smoother than before so I decided to keep it at this setting. The game is still the same one I played before so I’m breezing through folks and trying to get this onto the Games Finished List on my Steam Library.
Grid Autosport – Steam
I have entered my 10th season with the game and now my current driver has tried out all five disciplines, and Touring, Open Wheel, and Street are my favorites. Endurance and whatever the one with drifting not so much. They’re not bad, its just the endurance one I have no idea of how long the races are with the exception that the first two I played are 60,000 Kilometers long. Drifting/Time Trials are ok, but I like actual races.
Kung Fu Strike: The Warrior’s Rise – Steam
I bought this on Sunday with my Steam Credit after watching some video on YouTube (thanks YouTube). This game is basically you have this guy who likes to fight a couple of waves of bad guys and stringing together combos. There’s not much else to the game. After playing one round you learn how to use the block and counter method and then you’re thrown into another level where that’s what you need to survive. The achievement list says there’s 28 levels in the game, and I am on 3 or 4 trying to get my block timing down. Other than that the game is fun and worth the $1.99 I paid.
Full Blast – Steam
I have had this game on my wishlist for I think a couple of weeks and it went on sale so I bought it with my Steam Credit. It is a pretty Shoot’em Up (I feel odd typing shump). The story is flimsy, and some of the logic fits in like when there was an earthquake on the ground, my ship shook. I think this game is short at 12 levels but it is fun, and if you’re a fan of this genre give it a try. If you do be sure to mute the in-game music unless you like bad guitar.
The final game I played this week is becoming a new favorite
Victor Vran – Steam
I didn’t know much about this game but it got some positive reviews on Steam and it was part of a humble bundle. You play as the demon hunter Victor Vran who goes to this town to look for other demon hunters have gone missing (spooky town, player is there to save the day, where have I heard this before?) You meet some folks who setup base in a castle, and then you proceed to take on waves of bad guys throughout the city and castle grounds. Along the way you pick up swanky items like weapons, power ups, find secrets, and gold. Currently I am at level 11 and I just unlocked a place after a big boss battle. The gameplay itself is decent a lot of dodge and hit is being used because there are a ton of bad guys on the screen at one time, but the top-back camera angle gives you full view of the immediate area on your map, and you can always use the right stick to maneuver the camera. For most of the game it has been all shot gun, until I found this lightning gun which acts like the Ghostbusters’ Proton Pack without the backpack.
Alright Pixlbit I am off to give couch to 5K another shot. I know how to use it so I need to get my running playlist up and then start the app so the robot lady voice can tell me to walk/run. Have a good week!
That’s all for now, more later!
-Chris
