Happy Earth Day Pixlpeeps! Friday is back and again I am going to avoid roaming around the surrounding area because its week 2 of Coachella and all the crazy kids are back. I was buying some groceries yesterday and all stacks of alcohol at the grocery store and Target were back and so were the kids whose carts were filled with all those items as well as frozen foods. Instead of going out and searching for new CDs to add to the library this weekend I decided to stay home, play some games, and maybe catch up on some Netflix.
I really haven’t watched much when it comes to TV shows this week but there are a couple I want to talk about
Girls – HBO: The two part season finale was last week and for the most part we got some resolution to the storylines from the beginning of the season. Hannah redeemed herself with her speech at the end and it makes up for some of her annoying qualities. I still think Ray is the most interesting character on the show, and the whole situation with Adam and Jessa became disturbing. Everyone else seem to grow up a bit and found a positive groove.
Marvel’s Agents Of SHIELD – ABC: Yeah the big reveal on Tuesday, I called it. It really wasn’t that hard considering it was kind of telegraphed and I have a feeling on who they are going to kill off on the show.
Green Batman – CW: Didn’t watch. I thought about it but really it isn’t the same show I liked. I felt this season has been a train wreck. Maybe I’ll check in again next season. I’m still subscribed to a fan podcast, so I’ll continue to listen to them and their thoughts
Coachella Music And Arts Festival – YouTube: I tend to catch the Saturday Night live streams of the main acts because they’re the most interesting and this year was the return of Guns N’ Roses. On the Main Event Stage was Ice Cube, Silversun Pickups, Zedd, and then Guns N’ Roses. Cube put on a hell of a show, Silversun wasn’t bad (it was nice to put a face to the music) and they played the one song I knew at the end. The last act was a time delayed Guns N’ Roses and they showed two songs, and the feed was done. WTF! Twitter wasn’t happy and I was a little annoyed considering I stayed up until 2am for this. I can hear the “you should have went” crowd and I get that. I’m just annoyed that I stayed up for something that didn’t deliver.
Last week I added Adam Carolla’s The Hammer to my iTunes Library, and I watched it Monday. It was a damn good flick. The acting was funky but the story was good. The jokes were all Adam Carolla Show stuff, and it seems Adam borrowed from elements from his life. The Hammer is about a carpenter who on his 40th birthday decides to train to be a boxer again after a chance meeting with a coach who was working with another boxer at the gym, Carolla’s character teaches at. Carolla’s ongoing theme about working toward realizing your dreams is evident with each of the characters and is worth the watch.
When it comes to listening to my iTunes library, I’ve fallen back in love with the sound of my original setup after watching the two songs from Coachella.
I guess I’ve become use to listening to music through my phone and Bluetooth Beats that I forgot how good this setup sounds. Songs with horn sections, orchestra stuff are amazing, and currently I’m back to listening to Metallica’s S&M and it has a bigger sound than just my phone. I’ve been debating on buying a new headphone amp but that’s probably something that can wait for the summer.
Speaking of GNR, I started ripping my 45s collection and I came across this one
I forgot I owned this. I can so rock the whistling sections.
So last week because of the influx of new tunes my unlistened tracks ballooned to 12,851. This week at the time of this latest blog entry my unlistened count is now at
I’ve been in a classical kick the past week and enjoying the Big (Composer Name) Box collections I bought on Amazon over a year ago. If you haven’t seen them, they are in the digital music collection and for a buck you get over 100 tracks of music. I believe I bought Handel, Baroque, as well as the 100 of (Composer Name) of Beethoven, Mozart, Bach, etc. They are excellent collections of music for less than the price of a current artist’s album. I’ve been listening to those albums and picking off albums from the Amazon stuff from last week.
Some random things from this past week:
- Apparently my local Toys R Us now sells used Skylanders, and Disney Infinity figures. If they sold used Lego Dimensions stuff I would buy them just to add to the minifigure bin.
- I have no idea where my Vita is. I have however been looking at PSP nub replacements and I might order one so I can play some Vita games.
- Speaking of PSP I was thinking about finally buying one of those Pro Duo adaptor’s where I can stick in two 32GB Mirco SD cards and have a ton of space, for game saves, because really why would one need that much space?
Pickups
Games
r/gamedeals man. I need to stop checking that Reddit page out so often because it’ll get me into trouble but at least the deals on there are cheap. From IndieGala I bought this bundle for I think $2.50
The games included are:
Sparkle 2 Evo, Millie, Merchants of Kadan, Surfingers, Timberman, Cat on a Diet, Risky Rescue, Sinless +OST, Sparkle 3 Genesis, Sparkle Zero, and Violett Remastered. I could have sworn I played Sparkle on PS3 but it was called something else. It was a random freebie a long time ago. I’m digging these bundles of small indie games.
I also bought another game for $1 because it was one of those special one day sales and I don’t think I ever bought it on console
It’s a racing game on speed, and for a buck it’s another racing option for me.
Music
While roaming around Target when I was buying a couple of things to make dinner I stopped by the music section and picked up a CD I needed in the library but for some reason I didn’t already own
Main reason for this album because I really like the first 30 sec of Chasing Pavements. The lyrics where Adele says “This ain’t lust, I know this is love” and she does that little run on “I know this is” so good. The live version from the Royal Albert Hall is damn near perfect. I’m happy to have this album in the library.
Hot Wheels
Yeah I know I said I stopped but this is the Batmobile I’ve been looking for
The Red and Black Tumbler.
Lego
Apparently these figures are hard as hell to find. One day my Target had them, the next day they were gone.
The figures I really want are the Little Green Men, Alice from Alice in Wonderland, and Maleficent. I got a Little Green Man, and Maleficent, so I’m just missing Alice. Hopefully I can run into more figures so I can try and complete the set.
Alright Pixlbit I am off to find something to eat. Have a good weekend!
That’s all for now, more later!
-Chris
So for my song of the week it’s only fitting to talk about Prince. I’m not a huge fan but growing up in the 80s his music was hard to miss especially when he did the Batman theme. One of my favorite songs is actually a cover of The Stylistics’ Betcha By Golly Wow. Because of this song I wanted the triple disc album Emancipation (remember when he went by a logo because he was fighting with Warner Bros.? He was the sign guy at this point) anyways I think my brother bought this album for me for my birthday and it was an expensive CD at I think $30. It wasn’t one his more known albums but I really dug his version of this song along with the rest of his catalog. Hell of a musician.
