Well Happy Tuesday to you good people of Pixlbit! I am back from a three day weekend where I went exploring around Southern California, took a couple of pictures, saw some things, and had a trip down memory lane when I went to visit the little farming town where I grew up. I saw my old house, school, and surprisingly I still remember the phone numbers and addresses of my old house and my grandma’s house. I thought about maybe taking the 3DS with me to at least collect some coins because there was a lot of walking but it never left the house. Oh well. There really wasn’t any real gaming going on until yesterday around lunch when I decided to fire up a game I bought on Saturday while sitting on the freeway.
Before I went on my separate day trips I did knock out a couple of games on my newly growing PC section of Mount Backlog. The first game was part of a bundle that I bought for another game but gave this game a try and I was hooked
Brothers – Steam
I know this game appeared on 360 a while ago but I didn’t give it a try because it didn’t seem like something I was willing to play at the time. Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago when I gave it a try and I was hooked by its simple gameplay of just using the two joysticks and two trigger buttons. The puzzles were fun to solve, but the environment and the story is where this game shines. Brothers gives you control over two brothers who have to travel through various sections of their world trying to get this life saving cure for their father. There is no dialogue in this game, and it seems everyone speaks like The Sims, but just by actions you can understand the situation. This game is exceptional, beautiful, and most important enjoyable. I found myself at the end of the game saying “damn” because I enjoyed my time with it. Whatever platform, give this game a try.
Sparkle Zero – Steam
This was part of another bundle of games I bought but after playing five minutes of this game I realize I played this on the PS3. I can’t remember if it was under the same name but it was a free game on the PS3 and I spent a weekend playing through it. You play as a lifeform who flies around eating and getting bigger. As you encounter other lifeforms you can attack them and become bigger. There are five levels that are placed like layers of cake and to access each layer you enter portals. There really isn’t much to this game, and after an hour I finished the entire thing.
Apparently this was the first game on Steam where I unlocked all the achievements for. By itself I felt this game was a bit of a cheat because of how short it is, but it came in a bundle of 11 games and I paid I think $4 so it wasn’t bad. The other games in the bundle are sequels to this game but I think they might be longer. I haven’t given them a try.
In other games I’ve played
Rocket League – Steam
You guys remember this from PS4. I picked it up via Amazon for $11 for a Steam key and I started playing a season. Currently my team, The Outlaws are 8-1, with the lone loss being a terrible game where the bottom feeding squad not only dropped four goals on my team, but also had a shutout. Ugly game.
Grind Autosport – Steam
I think I’ve unlocked all the races for the Touring section and I’m currently in the middle of a 3 race season where each race is 5 laps, and the cars are really fast.
Victor Vran – Steam
I unlocked the ability to combine weapons. With all the swords I’ve picked up I could probably create one hell of a powerful sword, which thinking about after typing that sentence I really should do because the enemies are getting stronger. My shoot and avoid tactic is working but since there are more enemies on screen I’ve had to mix in jumps so I don’t absorb more damage. This game is starting to feel like a chore because it’s more of the same in every section.
Surfingers – Steam
This was part of that bundle that Sparkle Zero came from and was the main reason I wanted the bundle. You only use two buttons, up and down, or W, and S. You control the wave of water your character is on, and have to match it to the next wave. It’s basically an endless runner. My first 30 minutes of gameplay I thought it would make an excellent mobile game, and sure enough its available on iOS and Android. I’m stuck around the 90 score area and I’m really trying to get past this barrier, but I over think the game. Anyways one trick I could offer is don’t look at your character, look at the next wave.
In other game stuff: The Simpsons Tapped Out has a Western Theme, and I got caught up in it for a couple of days. After that not so much. I’m starting to try out random GBA games, and for the most part it feels like a prettier Game Gear. I’m still debating on fixing my PSP nub because the replacement is $7 on Amazon, and I really do like the PSP games. The drawback is that I have to move the screen which I am hesitant about.
I think it was last week when I saw that Lego Marvel Avengers updated with three slots for new DLC:
- Classic Black Panther Pack
- Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D Pack
- All-New, All-Different Doctor Strange Pack
And it turns out it will be available on the 29th. I’m excited just to play SHIELD and have the characters from that pack be available in the game.
Alright Pixlpeeps I am off to get the week going. Have a good one!
That’s all for now, more later!
-Chris
